A thunderous and insidious cloud of hate is casting a hard and heavy shadow of turmoil, turbulence and tumultuousness all over the world right now. Overcast by cries of Black rage, Black pain and Black death, all the people of the land can sit still no more. Our bodies, our souls and our spirits are moving, marching and chanting together, in unison, like angels on the beach as violent waves from a sea of change crash against the shore. To and fro, back and forth, swaying and sashaying, from a point of no return to a place of no refrain. The journey is in the rhythm, and the spiritual art of dance gives way to the physical act of protest; of which both the art and the act are powerful expressions of passion and purpose. As we witness the motion and commotion, we are reminded that no movement is without movement. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Words: USEN, Founder/Artistic Director, HAUSEN. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Work: Howard T Cash. “Angels on the Beach.” Far Rockaway, Queens, NY. 2004. “Before I became strong, I knew what it was like To be weak, How difficult it is to love yourself, To find the wholeness that you seek. Before I knew the light, I have had my fair share of darkness, too, Where my world fell into a hopelessness And I didnt know how to get through. For I have known the tears it takes, The courage to stand up again, When you are broken down and bruised And you know nothing but the pain. You forget to appreciate love, If you havent seen the hate, Till you forget the meaning of smile and laughter, And your heart is left abate. I have known the strength and courage It requires to get it right, To face the things that hold you down And hold your head up and fight. Before I was who I am now, I was someone I didnt want to be. I was lost, battered, and defeated, Before I knew how to be me!” -Insiya K. Injustices committed against blacks-George Junius Stinney Jr- In 1944 George was the youngest person to be put to death in the United States. The 14 year old boy was accused of killing two white girls aged 11 and 7. The bodies of the girls where found next to George’s home. George was subsequently arrested and convicted for the murders by an all white jury after just a 2 hour trial. He was convicted solely on false eyewitness accounts. The judge did not take much time to pass the death sentence, just 10 minutes after the trial he ordered George to the face electric chair. During the trial George was not allowed to have a lawyer and always claimed he was innocent.Georges parents were also threatened and told they were not allowed to enter the court room to see their sons trial. His parents were even expelled from the city. George was electrocuted with 5,380 volts and 70 years too late, his innocence was proven by a judge in South Carolina. A movie named 83 days was made portraying George’s 81 days in solitary confinement in a prison 80 miles away from his home without being able to see his parents or a lawyer. George was simply guilty of being black. - @blackhistorynonstop on Instagram

. #DELHI: Delhi govt to hold meeting on Thursday to discuss unlock guidelines on schools, colleges According to the latest guidelines, the decision for opening schools and coaching institutions in a graded manner can be taken by the states/union territories after October 15. The Delhi government’s education department officials will hold a meeting on Thursday discuss the Unlock 5 rules issued by the Union home ministry on Wednesday. According to the latest guidelines, the decision for opening schools and coaching institutions in a graded manner can be taken by the states/union territories after October 15 “in consultation with the respective school/institution management, based on their assessment of the situation”. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) will take the call in notifying the relaxation order by the central government guidelines. The DDMA is chaired by L-G Anil Baijal and CM Arvind Kejriwal is it’s vice-chairperson. However, the education department will be entrusted with working out the modalities on how the relaxation is to be implemented, once permitted. Reacting to the MHA guidelines, a senior official from the deputy chief minister’s office on Wednesday said, “We had announced for closure of schools till October 5 in the capital. This gives us time to go through the guidelines, consult stakeholders, and take the decision on the reopening of schools in the national Capital. We will hold a meeting on Thursday.” Even though the last guidelines issued on August 29 allowed voluntary school visits by students of classes 9 to 12 for guidance from September 21, the Delhi government had announced on September 18 that all schools in the Capital would remain closed for till October 5. Schools across the country were shut in March in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. Classes are being conducted online, and links to online study material are being sent to the students via WhatsApp, emails and SMS. . (Source: Hindustan Times) - @jammu.com_ on Instagram

In this new anthology, The Selected Works of Audre Lorde, edited by @roxanegay74, author #AudreLorde reminds us liberation requires valuing all Black lives, not just those who mirror our own experiences. Lorde’s work challenges me to become more certain of my personal responsibility to a collective struggle for liberation. She beckons me to see myself as a complex person who deserves care as a revolutionary act. She tells me that as a woman, I am powerful and dangerous, writes @charlenecarruthers. On September 15th, 1963, a bomb planted by white supremacists ripped through Sixteenth Street Baptist Church killing four little girls – Addie Mae Collins (14), Cynthia Diane Wesley (14), Carole Robertson (14) & Carol Denise McNair (11) – and injuring several others. The tragedy marked the third bombing in eleven days in Birmingham, Alabama. In the 1960’s, Birmingham was one of the most racially segregated cities in the country. State and local politics were dominated by the Ku Klux Klan, the city police commissioner, Eugene “Bull” Connor, who promoted violence against black communities and the Governor George Wallace, who was a staunch segregationist. These factors combined to heighten anti-black sentiment and create a particularly dangerous environment for African Americans. Racially motivated attacks on black homes and churches grew so common that the city was referred to as “Bombingham.” The terrorist act against the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church was a brutal reminder that the successes of the civil rights movement and the changes it represented would not go unchallenged. In the face of such violence, the determination to continue organizing intensified. Glass shards from the church’s stained-glass window are a part of our collection. #APeoplesJourney #ANationsStory 📷: Gift from the Trumpauer-Mulholland Collection; Gift of the Family of Rev. Happy #BlackHistoryMonth! In honor of BHM, I asked my staff to highlight key moments in Black history that have shaped and continue to shape Senate District 9 and the greater East Bay. In 1966--2 years before students at San Francisco State University would strike for the creation of a College of Ethnic Studies--Merritt College became the first post-secondary institution to offer an Ethnic Studies program. That same year, Merritt College students Huey Newton and Bobby Seale founded the Black Panther Party to address problems facing the Black community head-on. The two students were inspired by Malcolm X’s militant black empowerment philosophy. In their Ten-Point Platform, the founding BPP members stated demands for “land, bread, housing, education, clothing, justice and peace.” . The Black Panther Party organized many community-based “survival” programs to directly meet the needs of Black communities in the East Bay. Beginning at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Oakland (now St. Andrew’s Missionary Baptist Church), the BPP hosted the Free Breakfast for Children Program so that local kids could have nutritious meals to help them learn. Within a year, the free breakfast program spread to BPP chapters across the country. The BPP also opened a free medical clinic in Berkeley and established the Oakland Community School. While the school closed its doors in 1982, it has been recognized as a model for public education in California. #Blackhistory #bhm2020 Image 1: Black and Chicano students protect Old Merritt college closure Image 2: Charles Bursey hands a plate of food to a child as part of the Black Panther Partys free breakfast program. Ella Josephine Baker, born in Norfolk, Virginia in 1903, was one of the most influential, and largely unknown, people in this nation’s history who was intimately involved in the fight for civil rights for oppressed communities. While she spent the majority of her time as an activist fighting for the rights of Black men and women, she was also an outspoken advocate for women of all races, Latinx people, and people in poverty. Starting in Harlem, her activism focused on grass roots organizations and spread across the country. She led multiple protests against racial injustice, colonialism, and fascism in America. In the 1950s, she fought against police brutality and segregation in the early days of the Civil Rights movement. She was also an organizer and advisor for SNCC (Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee) and SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference). One of the many causes she fought for was the vote. African Americans, while technically granted access to the vote with the 15th and 19th Amendments, in reality were often unable to register due to discriminatory practices and regulations that operated around the amendment. As the Associate Director of SCLC, Baker fought to increase the number of registered African American voters in the 1958 and 1960 elections to exercise their right to vote where possible. This work to get more African Americans registered to vote, broadened awareness in the fight for voting rights in Black communities, and laid the groundwork for the 1965 Voting Rights Act. On the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment as well as the 55th anniversary of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, we are honoring inspirational women throughout America’s history who have fought for the rights of the disenfranchised. Who was the first woman in your family to vote? ✴️Hunger is a condition in which a person, for a period, is unable to eat sufficient food to meet basic fundamental nutritional needs. It is the painful sensation or state of weakness caused by the need of food.✴️ . An estimate of 690 million people are going hungry, 2 billion suffering from malnutrition even though there is enough food, and resources for all‼️ . Hunger is in many cases a result of wars, plagues and adverse weather conditions. 🔺The FAOs 2017 report discussed three principal reasons for the recent increase in hunger: 1. climate 2. conflict 3. economic slowdowns. . What is more is that according to a report published by the World Bank, 60% of those who are hungry are female!🚺 . Many organisations are working tirelessly towards making the world Hunger free or providing as many as they can with the basic nutritional needs. But it all starts with you, and heres what we as an individual can do to help eradicate hunger from the World:-- ✓Please please dont waste FOOD! It is a blessing that you are being provided with food to eat. Respect it.🙏 ✓Dont throw away the food which you are unable to eat. You can give it to a person who is in need of it more than you. You can save a life like this.👍💪 ✓ If you are unable to go out and give the food out to someone else, you can put it on a plate out for the migrating birds.🐦 ✓ While attending parties and functions, make sure you fill your plate with food which you can eat. It hurts to see the food being thrown away.💔 ✓Donate if you can to organisations like FeedIndia, Feeding America, Action Against Hunger etc. ✓Spread awareness.✊🙌 . . It is our responsibility to be responsible citizens of the Earth. And it is our duty, to protect the Earth and its Inhabitants. Lets not stop!🙏✊✊🌎 . #hungerstrike#hungerfree #consciousconsumer#sustainablopedia#hungerfreeindia #foodsaving #food #foodlife #hungerover #businessideasfromhome #affiliateprogram #choosetoreuse #sustainabilitymatters #ecoblogger #sustainablebusiness #sustainableshopping#shopconsciously #sustainableblogger #reducereuse #affiliatemoney #sustainableb - @__sustainablopedia__ on Instagram

Truganini finally came to rest in Tasmania. On 30 April 1976 Truganinis remains were cremated at the Cornelian Bay crematorium where Rosalind Langford, former Secretary of the Aboriginal Information Service in Tasmania, delivered the oration. The following morning, just seven days short of the centenary of her death, Truganini’s ashes were scattered in the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, close to her birthplace and homeland. Access to basic medical care can mean the difference between life and death in the developing world. This is especially true for young mothers and their newborn children in Ethiopia. That’s why Wide Horizons For Children built the Adwa Health Clinic and Leku Leading Hospital. These institutions provide life-saving medical care for over 25,000 patients annually. Our medical missions to the area, led by U.S. doctors, perform surgeries, donate equipment, and train Ethiopian medical staff in maternal care, neo-natal resuscitation, and other best-practices. “The end of Biafra is a significant event that I want to cover. I take the first plane to Lagos. And as I do not have a visa, I slip into the delegation of the OAU (Organisation of African Unity) led by its Secretary General Diallo Telli and pass through immigration formalities without a hitch. In Lagos, the authorities chartered a plane to take a hundred journalists to the former Biafra. But all the seats on the plane are already taken – the world press is here – and they are expensive. I am penniless and the advance on fees from Jeune Afrique has been exhausted. Regardless, I still go to the airport with the other journalists and head towards the bridge of the plane, as if my name is on the list that an attendant is ticking. When it is my turn, he pretends to look at his list, then beckons to me to enter. Up till today, I still wonder why he did that? I learn that luck is earned” - abbas. The media presence in Biafra between 1970 and 1971 was a very important story for the beginning of photography used by aid agencies. It was the the first time that there was media interest in a story like Biafra, which led to non government organisations like Oxfam and was hugely successful in fundraising, using the pictures coming from agencies. These photos by Abbas have been shared by French newspaper @lemondefr. Fonte: Mundo Afrobiz. - @eu_mulherpreta on Instagram

SAVE HER by Correct Bro - Gone are the days when we used to cook fried rice with chicken to celebrate Independence Day. - The days when the streets were painted with green and white. - The days when clothing stores are packed with green and white shirts ready to be sold... - The days when people were itching to hear the 7 o clock speech from our president - Gone are the days when we see great match pass from our children, our youths, our military, our civil servants. - What has happened to her? Is she sick? Can she be revived? Is she dead? - So many questions with simple answers but complicated solutions. - The doctors handling her are not capable but wont let go. - They threaten to kill you if you want to save her. - They keep all her breast milk to themselves and allow her seed to die of starvation. - They throw drops of milk to silent the few grown ups who can talk and lock up the ones who refuse the epileptic offer. - They continually give her wrong dosage of her medicine. - They leave her in a dark ward where the noise of machines worsen her case. - They use the police to prevent her from being saved. - They only come to her seed when they want to rotate the leadership of the hospital. - No wonder the great Chinua Achebe said There was a country - Oh But... - Can we save her? Who will save? How are we going to save her? - I dont have the answers, I dont have the finance to save her, I dont have the voice to save her but with the power of all her seeds, we can save her. - It is an Independence Day but not a happy Independence day - SAVE NIGERIA - CORRECT BRO PRESIDENT OF ALNY - @correctbro1 on Instagram

#MaudeCallen, known as the “Angel in Twilight,” provided medical care to poor and desperate people in need. Born in Florida in 1898, she was orphaned as a young girl with 12 sisters. Callen went to live with her uncle, who numbered among the country’s earliest Black medical doctors. She learned techniques from him and studied at Florida A&M University and the Georgia Infirmary in Savannah. Callen later moved to Pineville in the early 1920s as a medical missionary and remained the health care provider for the area’s residents for many years. She operated a community clinic out of her home, which was located miles from any hospital. Callen provided in-home services to “an area of some 400 square miles veined with muddy roads.” She often served as a “doctor, dietician, psychologist, bail-goer and friend” to thousands of desperately poor patients. It is estimated she delivered between 600 and 800 babies in her years of practice. She also devoted time to teaching other women the skills of being a #midwife. Callen received an honorary degree in 1989 from the Medical University of South Carolina. A scholarship was also established at the college of nursing in her name. - @black.archive on Instagram
