Last week Robert & I lost our Goodboy. After a tough battle with brain cancer, he was granted peace safe at home, in his bed & with us by his side. This is what this morning looks like - and that’s okay. 🦋Yesterday was not a good day, physically or mentally. It’s truly difficult to fully explain the extent crohn’s has on all aspects of life, when barely comprehensible to yourself. The internal mental and emotional stressors of yesterday’s events has turned physically outwards. TMI- but last night consisted of no sleep, anger, sadness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headaches, sweats, shakes, chills and cramping; to put it simply so so much pain. This morning I’ve done one thing, and this was my heart rate (swipe). I feel weak. I’ve had to call in sick to work this morning, which I hate doing. I hate feeling like I’ve let people down. But right now I need to put my health first. This is what an active flare looks like. Our 3-year-old rescue-hound babies, Scout (left) and Quinn (right). We believe Scout is part terrier (maybe Pit Bull) and part Whippet, though she herds a *lot* and is about 36% feral. Quinn may be a Great Pyrenees-Treeing Walker Coonhound mix. Only 9% feral, and smarter than her sister (except about finding/getting food and comfort, which is where we see Scouts IQ triple). Scout was found alone, having been a stray for awhile, in Alabama. Quinn was found in a vacant lot in Arkansas with her mother and siblings. They are both very, very sweet. We flew the coup together to Morgan City, and then to Texas, Shreveport, and then Nashville. Through all of the changes and moves, you provided me with nonstop happiness. . The way you greeted me every time I walked in the door is something I will so desperately miss. You were so wiggly and excited, with a toy in your mouth to give me (not to play with…), snorting like a pig because you couldn’t breathe through your mouth. You’d walk in circles and lean against me, letting me give you all the scratches and pets. . You had sass for days, silent until I heard a long exacerbated sigh conveying you had an issue with my parenting. I’m going to miss giving you my extra turkey bacon pieces, rewarding every lobby entrance with a milk bone treat, and even the smell of those putrid lamb lung treats you’re obsessed with. . I loved your guilty conscious, your over-intelligence, and your ability to sense when something’s wrong. I loved you despite not being a cuddler. Who am I kidding? You loved to sit on the other side of the room as me with your back turned. Even though you didn’t need to be touching me or next to me at all times, I still knew you loved and cared for me deeply. . You made it easy to be a great dog mom, Zozo. You made it easy to fall in love with you. Everyone that met you, even for a few seconds, instantly felt a connection with you. You always made everyone feel special. There will never be another one like you and I’m just so over the moon that God gave me you. . I had to say good-bye to my girl on Friday after a long week of suffering and I have never experienced sadness like this before. Thank you everyone for all of the well wishes, positive vibes, care, and concern. Today’s oncology consult wasn’t filled with answers but medicine isn’t always an exact science. We think we’re dealing with metastatic carcinoma of unknown primary. Don’t google it. We’re discussing a CT scan to try and know more but that will depend on Marge’s condition the next few days. Anesthesia is always a risk for smushy faces but even worse with the swelling we’re dealing with. Changed up some meds and discussing a chemo plan now. It’s been an awesome 13 months but not nearly long enough. Without being able to nail down a diagnosis we don’t know the prognosis so we’ll be living every day to the fullest... even if that mostly means naps and snacks. ❤️ - @largemargedoingthings on Instagram

Well its been over 4 weeks since they removed Jethros tumor. We found out a little over a week ago that it is cancer. Its hemangiosarcoma which is a very aggressive type of cancer. I havent been able to bring myself to post this until now. I cry every time I think about it. We have an appointment to see an oncologist on September 17th (way to long of a wait for me). We are also doing some diet changes and looking into some holistic/homeopathic alternatives. If anyone has any suggestions or advice we are very open to hearing them. As of right now Jethro is the healthiest and happiest hes been in months. Hes like a puppy again. (Im not tagging anyone in this photo because there are too many of you and I dont want to miss anyone. Please know that we love each one of our wonderful friends and we apologize for not liking and commenting on posts. Ive just been trying to spend as much time with the boys as possible.) Unpopular opinions with baby Gray. I personally believe that it is dangerous to promote “raw” as the best diet for dogs on social media. A raw diet caused Gray to have multiple bloat episodes leading to surgery. He has done way better on kibble. It’s a night and day difference for his digestive system. There is little to no actual scientific research on raw diets. No peer reviewed studies. The evidence for raw is purely circumstantial. If it works for your dog, great, but to say that it’s the “best” food for every dog is just wrong. That is not based in fact, just purely an opinion. There is no dog that is loved more than Piglet, the deaf blind pink puppy. We have chosen to share his important message of perseverance, resilience, acceptance, empathy, and kindness on his social media pages. Obviously, we open ourselves up for public scrutiny, which generally yields very positive feedback. But there is always a concerned or disgruntled someone who somehow turns Piglet’s positive sweetness and our support of him into negative. This happens to many other animals and their people who are in the same position. I generally use these questions and occasional accusations for constructive learning opportunities. Some people are genuinely concerned about Piglet’s feelings, dignity, and welfare, and they deserve an explanation. Last week we had to discuss meal portions. The week before it was why Piglet and the other dogs should have to learn manners and impulse control, and wait to take a treat. The other day someone commented that I was smacking him in the face giving him tap signals in the little mealtime video. I can see their point, sort of. Who would want to have their face smacked when having a conversation? Smacking is not a kind way to communicate. The bottom line tho is that I am not smacking anything. These taps are very gentle. Piglet is tiny. There are only so many places to touch him. He has plenty of other tap signals over the rest of his body. A tap on his nose is a natural place to touch a dog when asking them to wait or stay. The little tap on his forehead is so light and he is so responsive, I really can’t concede that it is cruel or undignified in any way. The point is that it’s very easy to look at 15 seconds of video and come to out of context assumptions and criticism. I take each comment seriously bc some have definitely pointed out things I haven’t considered. All that said- I’m not changing Piglet’s tap signals. He is a happy communicative little pink boy and I’m sure if you asked him, he does not feel like he’s getting smacked in the face. At the moment, the tiny pink prince is still sleeping soundly. Thankyou for all the kind words from our insta fam to Ronny 💕 On review of his X-rays there is no structural cause for his pain and surprisingly no signs of arthritis which is what we had thought was the problem. He had a full blood exam and all his results are perfect. All his symptoms sound as though they are related to an issue in his spine. We are going to try cortisone injections and some Physio and see how he goes, hopefully it’s just some inflammation. LINK IN BIO This is Honey, my Blue-Nose Pit Bull rescue. I adopted Honey in January of this year from @istandwithmypack and @jessicasteindorff after a group of volunteers saved her from being euthanized on multiple occasions. They felt this dog was far too sweet to meet her end at a kill shelter. Honey was abused and neglected before she was rescued, leaving her diabetic, practically skin and bones, and too lethargic and weak to walk up steps. Now, shes a healthy weight (frankly far stronger than I am) and rushes up and down our front steps to go for a walk. Although shes much healthier and happier now, her diabetes has left her with cataracts that need urgent treatment, or else she risks losing her sight for good. Shes only showed signs of impacted vision in the last month, and our vet has made it clear the condition is rapidly threatening to steal her ability to see the people who love her. Honey has been through so much in her life, and so many have fought for her to live, that I know her path wasnt meant to go this way. With the impact of COVID-19, Im no longer able to work and earn the funds I need to pay for her $7,000 surgery. I know I am not the only one feeling the impact of these uncertain times, and I am hesitant to ask, but desperate to save my Honey. She is a dog who only barks in her sleep, and barely plays with toys because she was never able to learn how. When we got Briggs last year we gave him “Gordon the sloth” to help with separation anxiety. He never tried to rip it apart, he’d carry it around all the time and snuggled it whenever he slept. One day chaplin nabbed it and destroyed it. Briggs still carried the carcass for a year. When Gordon went on sale last week I bought him a new one. Briggs seems very please with his new sloth,... It’s a ruff life right now for Ivy Jane. Although TPLO surgery recovery is extremely difficult especially for such a high energy breed, it’s not impossible. Ivy is 2 and we agreed giving up 12 weeks in exchange for hopefully 10 plus years of pain free mobility was beyond worth it. So it’s a ruff life ... for now.
