Hey ya’ll what’s poppin. 💁🏼‍♀️ I want to share something pretty wild with hopes it may help other [anxious] ppl like me! I’ve always been a pretty nervous person who’s struggled with stepping outside my comfort zone. On stage I can but IRL? I am *not* adventurous! My partner is though. And he’s gently encouraged me to try new things & in doing that I’ve realized I’m way stronger and braver than I think. This year I went on a huge scary zip line (I cried but still), I went on jet skis (they were wicked fast tho so I also cried), took up exercising (Lost 10 lbs!) & (r u sitting down?) I absolutely LOVE skiing!! But here’s the gag- doing these seemingly scary & unknown activities didn’t break my foot. You know what did? WALKING 🚶🏼‍♀️ DOWN 🚶🏼‍♀️THE 🚶🏼‍♀️STREET! It’s such a lesson to 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒍𝒆𝒕 𝒇𝒆𝒂𝒓 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒑 𝒚𝒐𝒖 from doing something, because the scary / bad stuff can happen anywhere! I’ve spent most of my life worrying about the “what if’s” and it’s such a waste of time. ✨This year has been so awful so I’m working harder than ever to continue conquering my fears! One day soon I hope to have the confidence to look a pack of teenagers in the eye (nothing scarier). But until then, baby steps. Or in my case, baby hobbles! . . . . . . Sono trascorsi tanti anni da quando ho messo per la prima volta piede nelle aule dellUniversità degli Studi di Salerno (@unisalerno) e di quel ragazzo impacciato, pieno di sogni ed ignaro di cosa gli riservasse la facoltà di ingegneria, ne rimane solo un ricordo sbiadito. Il mio percorso universitario non è stato una passeggiata, ma oggi arrivato finalmente in cima, posso guardare indietro e vedere tutto ciò che di bello ho costruito e superato con le mie sole forze. Oggi, mi sembra di vivere un sogno ad occhi aperti, perché finalmente hanno preso forma e senso tutti i sacrifici fatti, il tempo investito e la continua abnegazione dedicata allo studio. . A te che leggi queste righe, posso solo augurarti di rimboccarti le maniche e di non abbandonare mai la strada dei tuoi sogni perché per quanto possa sembrare dura ed in salita, ci sarà sempre un traguardo da raggiungere che è più prezioso di qualsiasi ostacolo incontrato. Does anyone else find it kind of crazy that this thing that carries such negative connotations is literally one of the only things we need to live!? Calories. Kilojoules. Energy. Whatever you want to call them, we need them. Eating an adequate amount of calories is essential for: ~ energy & concentration ~ healthy hormones ~ good skin ~ healthy hair ~ sport & fitness performance ~ keeping all the vital organs functioning so we can live (kinda important right) ...the list goes on. Why is “low calorie” so highly praised and foods containing more calories are feared? I’m not being oblivious here, I know why. It’s the influence of diet culture to strive for weight loss and praise it receives regardless of what measures were taken to get there. But it sucks, because calories do a lot for us. Wanting to feel your best? You need calories. Training hard? You need calories. Didn’t do any exercise all day? You still need calories. Lying in bed sick and run down? You also need calories. Trying to build more muscle? You need calories. Trying to conceive or breastfeed? You need calories. Not trying to conceive? You still need calories. If weight/fat loss is part of your goals? Guess what, you still need calories. Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s not just calories. The nutrients we get from food are also essential for health. Macronutrients, micronutrients, trace elements, antioxidants, fibres- they’re all so important (and more fun to talk about in my opinion)! **Note: A lot of foods are naturally low in calories and eating these is fine as part of an overall balanced diet. But there shouldn’t be guilt or fear associated with the caloric value of what we eat. Eating should be on your terms (not an external influence or pressure), and should take into account your goals, preferences and body’s needs. So, what if we stopped demonising the term “calories”? Perhaps it might just take away a little of the unnecessary stress that sadly often exists around food. There’s so much pressure to reflect and pull ourselves together before the new year, which is probably the worst time to do anything that isn’t related to dealing with all the Christmas chaos. The cooking, cleaning, decorating, holiday potlucks & corporate parties, mitigating heated political discussions between family members.... you know, the usual😅 but with that being said I’m FINALLY able take in all that happened in this last year, and reflect on the immense growth I’ve had in these last 12 months. 2019 has challenged me, it’s pushed me to do things I never thought I’d ever want to do, dive deeper into mastering highly technical (and intimidating) aspects of photography, and I’m so pumped to take it even further in 2020! T E N one of the best decisions I made in my life was to go to hair school. I always knew I wanted to do hair. At 13 I fell inlove with using my hands to create art. I would convince my step sisters to let me highlight their hair, my neighborhood girlfriends to come over so I could give them some curls before school. My mom always knew, I was meant to be a hairdresser. Some of my favorite memories with my mom is doing her hair before I went to bed and she headed to her graveyard shift. She would say, do anything you want to do- twists, braids, curls, or an up do! She is one of the main reasons I went to hair school. School wasn’t easy for me, my mom had passed away 4 weeks in. I struggled with grieving the loss of my mom and being separated from my only sibling. There were days that I didnt want to get out of bed. I was so fortunate to have met the love of my life and his wonderful family who took me in like they had known me for years. Jeremy and his family would help me get up out of bed and make sure I made it to school. Most days were a struggle because I gave up so many things to go to hair school, my grandmother made sure I always had money for gas and food. I would have to remind myself that my mom really wanted this for me and would be so happy to see me be successful as a hair dresser. Through every success & struggle the thought of her has pushed me through. It’s been a journey. A wonderful, beautiful journey. I love my career, more than I could ever express. I’m so thankful that I had so many people believe in me along the way and help me get to where I am. Never in million years did I think my journey as a hairdresser would have led me to what I have now. I’ve met tons of talented friends, took over 100 classes, had my work published in magazines, competed& won a national color award, worked fashion week in NYC & Paris, mentored 6 wonderful hairstylist, built a clientele that is so loyal & supportive, educated other stylists with Bb, opened my own salon with my husband , I’ve had experiences that I’ll forever cherish and be grateful for. И нет, я не стала краше, стройнее и тп, мудрее, скорее всего, тоже не стала, но пришли другие ценности на смену того, что казалось важным. И это так легко теперь говорить и думать так... иначе и без натяжки, просто потому, что действительно знаешь, что есть важно, а что мусор и шумовые помехи. Всегда была открытым, откровенным и искренним человеком, и нет, жизнь меня не поломала, не показала, что это путь неверный, потому что посмотри, люди злы и корыстны, они не упустят возможности тебя использовать или опустись на землю, зачем ты всех идеализируешь, они не такие... когда я слышала такие советы раньше, мне хотелось до хрипоты в горле убеждать, что они заблуждаются, а теперь... А теперь я просто улыбаюсь и думаю, как жаль, что вы не видите так, как вижу я. Мы все такие разные, такие полные всего и только нам самим решать, какие наши внутренние богатства мы будем доставать наружу, чтобы делиться ими, чтобы умножать их в сто крат и становиться ещё богаче... Что еще... с годами осознаешь об ещё одной очень важной ценности - возможности выбора с кем быть, дружить и общаться. Казалось бы, что тут нового. А вы задумывались, что человек, с которым вам неудобно научит вас чему то, чему точно не научит тот кто любит вас безвозмездно и с кем вам просто и легко? Ведь так и есть. On September 14th, news broke out that Irwin County Detention Center in Georgia had been performing a high number of hysterectomies without consent and the inhumane conditions that migrants have suffered with the facilitys handling of COVID-19. oh hey, IT ME. Since Ive been away from Instagram for awhile, allow me to reintroduce myself. Heres a smattering of fun facts. 3 1. Lets get the important stuff out of the way first: Im a coach, teacher, and entrepreneur who helps online business owners create aligned success and impact. Ive coached enough entrepreneurs to know that the thing standing in the way of your goals probaaaably isnt another business tactic; its your own mindset. Thats why my holistic coaching method combines deep inner work with purposeful business strategy. 2. I’ve recently been learning how to produce music! I’ve felt a deep connection to music for basically my entire life and recently decided to try making my own. I’ve been taking a class for the past few months and it’s been one of the most complex and challenging creative pursuits I’ve ever tried. I sent my first song to one of my besties, @libbycrow, and she sent me an unexpected video of her and @scottoldford dancing to it. Whoa. TEARS! It’s cool to make a piece of art, but the thought of other people using that art for their own self expression is just...holy shit. I am so easily touched by the beauty of life. 3. Im probably the easiest person to sell something to with a Facebook Ad. 🤣 I make decisions quickly and Im a sucker for emotion-driven marketing. Please stop targeting me, I have enough supplements! 4. Im incredibly perceptive. Maybe some people call this intuitive? All I know is that I could probably tell you a LOT about yourself within the first few minutes of meeting you haha. If youve ever seen the show Psych, I feel like I could give that guy a run for his money! 5. I very much feel like Ive just come out of a major (and long) incubation period. Here are just a few things that affect adults with CHD and are challenging at times: ♥️Insurance coverage with a pre-existing condition ♥️Life insurance coverage (still trying to get this!) ♥️Fertility + reproductive rights (the safe ways we can start a family) ♥️Diet + fitness limitations ♥️ Access to healthcare - less than 10% of adults with CHD get the care that they need ♥️Mental health — specifically anxiety/depression ♥️The effects of a chronic condition on your partner/family ♥️Caffeine since it’s also #NationalCoffeeDay ;) ♥️The future for all of us - many of us need pacemakers, medications, and even further down the line — transplants as adults. It is an unknown road that we are all navigating, and the more research we have to help us, the better. To do my part, I’m raising money for the @acha_heart which is a nationally accredited org I work with and contribute to as a writer. Why Collecting Stories of Strength & Courage Can Change Your Own Perceptions ✨ Why did I start the @alicenetworkdotcom? Well because it was something I needed in my life. Something for the younger version of me. I wanted to see hope and resilience and courage despite adversity and to see it from other people when I was feeling down. ✨ I first started to experience significant stress and uncertainty when I was 23. I’d officially moved out for the first time and that opened the emotional floodgates. I’m someone who has acted on stage, asked people out in grocery stores, traveled countries on my own and fear and uncertainty still gets to me on a regular basis. Ya lo hemos escuchado muchas veces, en el 2050 habrá más #plástico que peces en el océano ☹️. ⁠ ⁠ Es así de triste, como que cada vez que vas a la playa encuentras todo tipo de #residuos tanto en el agua como en la arena: compresas, envases, bastoncillos de oídos, tapones, bolsas, piezas de plástico de todo tipo… Todos estos productos son los que tenemos que evitar.⁠ ⁠ Lo que tú ves en la playa es sólo la punta del iceberg. En el resto de playa que no pisas hay toneladas de #plásticos y en el fondo marino otras tantas. Ni qué decir de los #microplásticos, estas partículas diminutas que muy lejos de desintegrarse, se convierten en alimento de todo tipo de peces y aves marinas y que son tan difíciles de recoger.⁠ ⁠ Hay que ponerle remedio ya a la #contaminación por plásticos. Es urgente frenar este consumo masivo para irlo reduciendo hasta hacerlo desaparecer en su mayor parte, todo lo que se pueda. Pero hay que actuar ya tanto a nivel individual como colectivo, compartiendo información y cambiando cualquier hábito por pequeño que sea. Gracias a escuchar y platicar con varias mujeres, entendí que es un mal-trato general que casi todas hemos recibido cuando buscamos ayuda. 🩸 esta semana, después de haber leído “No son micro: micromachismos cotidianos” escrito por @erederbez y Claudia De la Garza y haber escuchado el podcast de menstruación de @voces_enresistencia, me animé a hacer estas ilustraciones. En ambos espacios encontré una fuerza que me impulsó a hablar y confrontar este tema, ya que me di cuenta de que yo también lo estaba menospreciado. Espero que estos dibujos y palabras sean de ayuda y de acompañamiento para mujeres que hayan vivido o estén viviendo algún proceso menstrual u hormonal complejo. Hi, new followers!! Taking a moment to reintroduce myself! ⁣ 🌼I’m a mental health advocate. My dream is for mental health care to be accessible to all, especially to women and POC communities. I’m young in my journey of figuring out how, but I’m interested in:⁣ *policy interventions⁣ *partnering with practitioners
*untangling the confusing world of insurance coverage⁣ *creating more spaces for culturally relevant care⁣ *destigmitizing mental health care⁣ ⁣ 💌The best way I can contribute to destigmatizing now, in addition to building @jointhecosmos, is to tell my own story.⁣ ⁣ I am an Aries, and a Gemini Moon, which means I come off passionate, social, outgoing when people first meet me. That is a real part of me!! ⁣ ⁣ ⚡️✨But I also have depression and anxiety.⁣✨⚡️ ⁣ I was “diagnosed” 3 years ago, when I sought therapy b/c I was completely beaten down by tech burnout and work trauma. 😭🥵I am new to taking anti-anxiety medication (Lexapro, it’s working so far!). I go to therapy, thanks to generous friends and family contributions to my therapy fund!! But I haven’t been able to afford it for a while, cuz #entrepreneur life. I practice meditation for 20 minutes a day by going on “meditation walks” (LOL, I can’t sit still) when I wake up. I write myself 💌love letters💌 every morning to practice speaking to myself with compassionate language b/c ya girl has hella negative thoughts. I realize I need a lot of love and emotional support but I struggle to ask for it without feeling like a burden. Even with all this “mental health care”, I have bad days that are just hard and I disappear into a dark tunnel. 🌪Mental health looks different for everyone.
