A cargo ship carrying 43 crew and nearly 6,000 cattle sank off Japan after reportedly losing an engine in rough seas caused by Typhoon Maysak, a survivor has said. The Filipino crew member, named as Sareno Edvarodo, a 45-year-old chief officer, was rescued late on Wednesday after Japanese navy P-3C surveillance aircraft spotted him wearing a life vest and waving while bobbing in the water. Edvarodo, who was in good health, told rescuers the ship capsized before sinking, said Yuichiro Higashi, a spokesman for the Japanese coast guard’s regional headquarters conducting the search. The Panamanian-registered vessel, called Gulf Livestock 1, sent the distress call from the East China Sea early on Wednesday, to the west of Amami Oshima Island in south-western Japan, Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported. - @themaritimepost on Instagram

Экскурсия вышла на славу: туристам посчастливилось целых полтора часа наблюдать за молодым горбатым китом, который все время выныривал на поверхность. Это было захватывающее представление! ₽ Это был обычный экскурсионный тур, организованный компанией Whale Watching Sydney. По мнению специалистов, именно в плохую погоду горбатые киты склонны больше времени проводить на поверхности. И тогда самое время за ними наблюдать! А в хорошую погоду они выныривают два-три раза, не больше. Почему горбатые киты чаще выныривают из воды в пасмурную и холодную погоду, точно неизвестно. Есть мнение, что они делают это для привлечения других китов, общения или в качестве предупреждения самцов-соперников. Так что экскурсантом очень повезло - они попали на представление длиной 90 минут, которое шло без антракта. Горбатые киты, несмотря на свои внушительные размеры, - не самые большие из китообразных. Они могут вырасти до 18 метров в длину и весить около 40 тонн, что составляет примерно половину от размеров синего кита. Но маленькими их тоже не назовешь. In 1991 I was invited to dinner by one of my longtime clients, Mitch Howell. Mitch was by far one of the best bonefish anglers I had ever fished with. This was confirmed by his multiple tournament victories in the 1980s and ‘90s. He was the only client who told me to come down from the platform to cast while he was hooked up, which enabled the only guide/client bonefish double in my career thus far. Mitch was the financial advisor to Lefty Kreh, Flip Pallot, and a bunch of other people. He knew Lefty, and he knew that Lefty would be in town for a casting demonstration. Mitch also knew that I would be a nervous wreck, so he didn’t initially tell me that the dinner plans included Lefty Kreh.
