Then their loving father died from the virus. Hannah and her brother, Joe got the virus but fought it and recovered. Hannah’s mother also got the virus and just as things were looking up, she was urgently admitted into the ICU and is hanging on to her life. 🚨SHE IS IN NEED OF A LUNG TRANSPLANT NOW🚨I am in tears thinking that Hannah and her younger brother (from Koreatown, Los Angeles) may lose the one remaining adult in their family. My grandpa Mike left this planet yesterday night just shy of ninety years old. He was wise and kind and loved by all. He raised and raced pigeons. He helped my brother and I build a huge stage light with our band logo cut out of it.. He also gave me some weights I found in his Florida garage around 15 years ago that I still use til this day which is why I’m so ripped, jacked, and attractive. I was 8. He would take the morning off work and we’d go to watch test cricket at Wankhede. We used to enter from Marine Drive near Zaver Mahal. Park the car across the road and queue up to get into the stadium. The rule was simple : I had to always hold his index finger during the walk in. It used to be crowded but never suffocating. He had prepared my lunch box, water bottle and given me a cap for when the sun hit the west stand in the evening. My steps would quicken when I’d hear a roar from the crowds inside. The finger would restrain my speed. Up the stairs, into daylight and the thrill, the splendour of cricket bathed in sunshine with 20,000 people watching. It was only when we’d reached our seats that I was allowed to release the finger. I can never forget the sense of safety that finger gave me. It was as if once I held it I was cloaked in inter galactic protective armour. That’s the wonder of being the right kind of father. It makes your son Superman. This image was taken 22 years after those test match days. 22 years after a boy had experienced boundless love and kindness. Thank you, Baba. Para sempre serás eterno em nossos corações. _______________________________________________________ Não me lembro quantas vezes eu já ensaiei escrever esse texto, é pq quem não sabe, o sr Adolfo já teve muitos livramentos, desde o seu nascimento, quando nasceu em nova Olinda do norte, inexplicavelmente em cima de uma porta. A parteira era cega de um lado e ele teve meningite. Sobreviveu disso e mais tarde escapou também de virar presa de uma cobra na rede sendo ele ainda bebê, foi puxado pelos pés pela janela. Em 83, antes de casar, voltando da Bolívia, seu avião quase caiu por diversas vezes, ele conta que foi um caos no avião, que consagrou sua vida diversas vezes, mas escapou, casou e teve dois filhos. Em 97, no dia seguinte do aniversário de 15 anos da sobrinha Erika, papai saiu de casa de manhã cedo, para ir à rádio boas novas. Naquela época ele tinha um programa de rádio direcionada as crianças no domingo de manhã e eu costumava ir com ele pra ajudar, eu tinha 12 anos na época. Graças a Deus eu não fui, pq nessa manhã, um dupla de motoqueiros saiu de supetão de uma rua, papai no reflexo jogou o carro para o outro lado e capotou diversas vezes. Graças a Deus e estava de cinto, e escapou mais uma vez :) Outras e outras histórias de livramento eu poderia lembrar, mas ele gostava de falar sobre essas nas mensagens dele. Por alguma razão Deus manteve ele vivo e mesmo em meio às dificuldades da vida, sejam elas financeiras ou físicas ele nunca deixou de fazer a obra, com carro, sem carro, geladeira cheia ou vazia. Nunca o vimos reclamar. Sempre nos confortando com “Deus proverá”. Pai, parafraseando o que o sr disse ao vovô, seu pai, o sr não nos deixa nada de bens nada material, mas nos deixa algo muito melhor, um legado, o evangelho, nos trouxe vida através da sua vida, em Cristo Jesus. Sabe, esse meu pai era pra ser eterno e ele é de fato, eterno em nossas vidas, em nossos corações, em nossas memórias. Hi this is Sarah and Maria writing this on our Mom’s behalf: Today mom made the monumental decision to cease treatment and enter home hospice care. She has received the state of the art treatment and feels deeply grateful for the months of life that the breakthrough drug Keytruda gave her. She encourages anybody curious to watch the documentary about Dr. Jim Allison (the drug’s inventor)...it’s so inspiring. We agree! About a month ago she came close to death from pneumonia/septic shock but, thanks to wonderful care, she recovered. Each day, mom says, since that difficult few days, feels like a gift. And we agree. Mom is spending her days alternatively resting, taking a few calls, touring her garden, watching the birds in the feeder, hanging out on the deck with family/grandchildren eating small meals that sound good to her. Tonight she’s got a craving for quiche and thank goodness our coop makes a good one! Mom is so grateful for all of your prayers and good wishes. She feels loved. At times she has experienced some panic and fear and she is happy to receive all your prayers for her to experience calm and peace as she continues her journey at home. On Friday we said goodbye to my dad. I’ve never known a person as strong, passionate, intelligent and ambitious as him. And I don’t think I ever will. Not many people can claim to have been a mathematician, a music teacher, a radio drama director, a jazz musician and a member of the Radiophonic Workshop in their lifetime, and that’s not even the full list… He achieved so much, and along the way he inspired people to think differently and to question everything. He really did leave an indelible mark on so many lives. . He taught me about the importance of standing up for what’s right and fighting for what you believe in and, in most cases, never backing down. He taught me about the richness of the world, about diverse cultures, food and music. He educated me, he challenged me and he made me look at life from a different point of view. It’s at a point now where the docs believe he should start treatment again, but because one of the side effects of treatment greatly weakens the immune system, they advised him to postpone it a few more months (bc of Covid). To be clear, he is very upbeat and looks pretty damn good to me (we’ve been training together over zoom three times a week) to get his head and body in a good place. Dear Grandpa Larry, Today marks six months since you were stolen from us on March 27, 2020. I am still absolutely broken. Not a day has gone by that Ive not missed your presence from this world. It pains me knowing Ill never see your infectious smile ever again and that the hug goodbye I gave you after dinner that night at the restaurant was the last. Id do anything in the world to be able to go back to that moment with you. If only I had known that would be the last goodbye, I wouldve never let go. Im gonna miss my Grandpa Junius Leo Bennion. Gratefully he died of natural causes surrounded by his wife and all 9 of his children. He was a giant goofy cowboy with a PHD that shot rockets into the stratosphere. He was one of the softest and most tender men I have ever known with some of the corniest jokes and who knew who he was and what he stood for. He was always making sure you had a handful of Peanut M&Ms or a bowl of ice cream while you laughed with him. He was a poet and a songwriter who always tried to do what was right and loved folks as they came. I am so grateful to carry his name and for all the ways he still lives on in me. Thank you Grandpa, I love you. Sei partito da gommista e sei volato in Argentina diventando dirigente di una delle più grosse multinazionali del mondo. Sei sempre stato il mio esempio di vita e lo sarai sempre nonostante l’assenza di quest’ultima. Dentro di me sapevo che prima o poi questo giorno sarebbe arrivato ma... scusami non riusciró mai ad abituarmi a queste cose. Ogni volta che succede una parte di me crolla e un altra diventa più forte perchè sa che dovrà andare avanti sempre più sola. My third day on #Route66 brought me into Moriarty, NM where I spotted a 20+ acre yard packed with old cars, many of which from the 1930’s, my era of choice. The owner? His name is #ArchieLewis, an 86 year old New Mexico native who’s love for cars started in 1945 when he bought his first #ModelT for $40, a car he still owns to this day. As you can see, Archie isn’t much of a seller but nevertheless I really enjoyed my afternoon shooting the breeze with him and taking in the stories of a man who has seen it all. Thanks Archie, you were the highlight of my day!
