It has been awhile since you have heard from Whit and I directly for reasons beyond us. We don’t post much as it is but in September 2016 the news we received about our daughter having cancer put us into a world of our own. It’s hard to believe that one visit to the ER would turn into a hospital admission and chemotherapy starting 3 days later. Everything else halted and our only focus was on getting Tatum healthy and making sure she felt all the love and energy required to endure something she is yet to understand. After 5 months of chemotherapy, a successful surgery, and many nights in the hospital, we are happy to share with everyone that she couldn’t have been more of a rock star. She still has a long road ahead of her, but for now, she is a happy healthy crazy wonderful toddler. Whit and I enjoy watching her play, laugh, smile, and be the kid we always wanted her to be. And this week marks her being PICC free! This process taught us to not take the small things in life for granted. We are fortunate that our daughter was given a fighting chance with her prognosis, but not every family gets that opportunity. This is a humbling experience. And while felt we were in a world of our own, we never felt alone. It became very clear we are surrounded by an incredible network of friends and family, that are there to support however they can. For that, we want to sincerely thank all of you. I’m not much for giving advice, but try to have balance in life, don’t take things too serious, love one another, enjoy the company of your friends and family, and hug your kids…always. - @13mschmit on Instagram

What’s your motivation!? From the beginning of this business journey, my own personal motivation was to help create the dreams and create freedom for the loved ones in my life. After all the setbacks and recent changes & losses, I think the pill of “were starting over again” has just become more difficult to swallow. Even still, we’re pushing on and not giving up. I constantly remind myself that my wife @superfoodgeek and our baby Luke are more important then anything and that I need to fight for them! I also find motivation in thinking about how much my business partner @michaelkabadi has committed to this company. All of us have made many sacrifices to see this thing continue, and I can’t express how thankful I truly am. I guess I can, and I try to show it in the constant effort that I continue to put out everyday. These guys are all the motivation I need. Let’s be real guys, business is tough... especially if you’re really committed to your team and the success of your company. I have worked 14-16 hour days, 7 days a week, for the last five years. It hasn’t been easy, it’s not easy, and doesn’t seem to be getting any easier anytime soon!!! And that’s okay!!! Happy 3 weeks to our little one and happy 1,981.43 weeks to the love of my life, my real-life Lloyd Dobler, and already the greatest father ever, @drmattastic. I cannot put into words how much this man means to me. I would not have been able to make it through the past month without his love and support. He held me through contractions; he breathed with me through labor; and now he’s the only thing getting me through taking care of a newborn. 😘 On his second day of life, Emerson had to be admitted to the hospital for UV light treatment due to a bad case of Jaundice. Because of CoVid restrictions, Matt wasn’t permitted in the hospital and I had to stay with him alone for two days. As a first-time parent who was extremely sleep deprived, hormonal and without her partner during a pandemic, it was intense to say the least. Once upon a time, a long time ago.. around the time of madmen I think.. daddies would put on a suit and tie, kiss their kiddo and wife, get in their car, play some pop tunes or listen to the news, and drive serenely to their work while focusing on the day ahead. They might enjoy a guilt-free cigarette, they might flirt with their secretary a bit, then one imagines they would go into their office and focus. An interruption might mean a meeting over lunch, or at least a phone call and a knock on the door. Once a day they might check in with their beloved at home, probably neglect to discuss the secretary flirting, then go back to their task. Work was work, lunch breaks and coffee breaks were just that, and ability to focus was a reality. Today, WFH means triple tasking at a minimum.. in this case dancing to a miraculously soothing dubstep beat, grabbing a bite of leftover breakfast by 1pm, while trying to strategically mute conferences calls so baby sounds don’t blow up the meeting. focus.. is a premium.. and best work hours are from 7pm to 1am when it’s quiet. at least... we still get coffee breaks. but we love him.. :—) #realtalk #wfh #multitaskingfamily (the secretary flirting bit is meant to ruffle feathers.. take it easy) - @alexioflexio on Instagram
I love sharing positivity and joy on social media as much as possible but sometimes I just have to put the phone down for a couple of days to “unplug”. I deleted my Facebook account back several months ago due to the insane amount of negativity flooding my news feed at all times. It’s been the best decision for my mental health, for real! Listen, if you think that arguing with others on social media is worth your time, that forcing your ideology on politics or world news on others who do to agree with you is worth your time, that posting as much negativity about current events as possible is worth your time.... it’s not. If you follow a social media outlet or watch news outlets that bring you down, please do yourself the mental favor of cutting them off. (Or “blessing and releasing” as my friend Madison says) Aren’t we all aware of enough negativity? I’m sure aware of the horror that this life can bring. I’m not “turning a blind eye” and I’m not “refusing to educate myself”. I’m well aware, believe me. I just refuse to allow the mainstream media to convince me that a house full of healthy babies, my loving spouse, a roof above our head and a pantry full of food isn’t reason to be thankful and joyful. There are so many accounts that I follow here on Instagram that have gone through or are going through some hard times whether it be storm damages, fires, etc. but they refuse to let hard times make them negative influences. I’m so thankful for them. Shes learning to navigate the steps, one at a time. Arent we all? . Id love you to leave a comment and tell us all one good thing thats helping right now. Not to deny all the terrible things, or deny the hard work that must be done, but because it helps to remember the counterpoints. To remember all the reasons we stay in the fight. Id love to hear something good of yours, and I bet others would too. (And then well have another complaints post soon!) . Here are some of my good things: My daughters a late walker--shes so fast when she crawls that she clearly sees no need for a change, and shes tall, which makes it a little trickier. Also, she hasnt been able to hang out with other toddlers, so she hasnt seen it done. But shes finding her feet now, and bit by bit, shes getting there. It fills me up to see her delight and pride when she manages it. . When she sees a dog anywhere -- a picture book, the TV, out in the street -- she woofs studiously, as if she has important messages to deliver in their language. She sits quietly by herself and reads her board books, lifting up every flap to study whats underneath. She blows kisses on request. She brings you her shoes and socks when she wants to go for a walk. . My husband and I have been playing board games at lunch while shes napping. We ordered amazing donuts and watched Enola Holmes the other night, and loved it. Im beginning work on a story none of you will see for a couple of years, but its filling me up with sparks, even though writing is harder than usual right now. . We are all fighting on so many fronts right now, trying to find the line between resting enough that we dont burn out, and staying in the game because we know we have no choice but to press on.
