Armlet of Queen Ahhotep I When it was found among the mummy’s hair, this gold armlet of Ahhotep I was thought to be a crown. Because of its diameter, however, it is certain that it was to be worn round the arm for protection. It is inlaid with lapis lazuli and carnelian and decorated with vulture of gold and inlays bearing the names of Ahmose I. Second Intermediate Period, 17th Dynasty, ca. 1560-1530 BC. ~Renewal~ -2020- So happy to fully reveal one of my winter projects, concept flowing from rebirth, release and renewal. The center symbol is a valknut. A symbol of Odin. Thought to bind and unbind. . I see it as a way of loosening our grip during transition or great challenges. A way to flow under pressure. To allow an emergence of new and profound transitions to take place during life...or in between . Three Ravens, three beetles, and three flowers bring us gifts... . light to guide and wings to fly . vision to know thy self . And deeply attuned senses to know our home well... For to know a thing well, is to know what lies beneath the surface. . These our gifts for trusting and weaving the way back to our wild hearts. Find yourself more truly, in each renewal. . . Beautiful photography by @ronpoguephoto . Big ups to my new and very talented apprentice Wes Napoleon for helping me bring this vision to full glory ❤️ . And as usual, NO STAIN, ALL NATURAL WOOD COLOR. NO CNC, MADE WITH LOVING HANDS❤️ Renewal is available now. DM if your interested. Carved from dark nephrite jade, this hilt for a dagger is shaped like the head of thoroughbred horse with reins in gold and semi-precious stones. The quillon takes the shape of a vegetal scroll that flares out from the base of a lily. The blade of this dagger is missing. Such courtly bejewelled dagger hilts exemplified the Mughal fascination with nature and displayed their appreciation towards the decoration of opulence. #QuinteroMásCultura #QuinteroMásTurismo #TodoSuma #Quintero #Quinterochile - @quinteromascultura on Instagram

Confira nossa matéria a respeito do assunto! #fgml #mhi #higienização #itajai - @fgmlitajai on Instagram

Today we celebrate International Day of Indigenous Women. Although women fight for their rights and the rights of their people, not enough recognition is given to the efforts of women. We pay tribute to all women belonging to the indigenous peoples of the world. We honor the women who carry the cultural and ancestral heritage of these communities as well as those who died in the fight against discrimination and abuses committed against this gender and ethnic group throughout history. #InternationalDayOfIndigenousWomen - @peoplesplanetproject on Instagram

• • • #gustavklimt #medicine #klimtmedicine #medicineklimt #affreschidellefacolta #leopoldmuseum #museumquartier #secession #magicvienna #wien #wienstagram #vienna_city #vienna_austria #viennastravel #sunsetinvienna #postcardsfromvienna #igersvienna #vienna_go #vienna_city #travelphotography #igersaustria #cartolinedalmondo #lavitainunoscatto #aframetoremember #viennanow #viennagoforit - @time_of_stone_ on Instagram

How was your weekend? We are pleased to see a loan from our collection in the ROM’s newest exhibition, ‘The Cloth that Changed the World: India’s Painted and Printed Cottons’, which opened on Saturday September 12. For the first time in 50 years, many of the ROM’s world-renowned Indian chintz textiles and fashions step out of their collection rooms and move into the galleries. While Indian chintz sparked a global fashion craze, the extraordinarily high demand for the cloth led to new manufacturing methods, ushering in the Industrial Revolution. The fashions and fabrics on display tell the many fascinating stories of how Indian chintz has connected the world and its revival in the world of fashion today. Sign up for our e-newsletter, The Thread, to receive a promo code for 15% off admission in our October edition. Link in bio. Kupunguzwa (Deduction) Kupunguzwa is a representation of the enlightenment necessary for taking the right decision. Wearing the mask usually makes oneself accepted as the power of decision, as its properties force the bearer to take selfless decisions. In this series, we used Artificial Intelligence to create new African masks, and worked in collaboration with a Ghanaian expert caftsman to give them a physical form. Each mask represents a facet of intelligence, which also corresponds to a sector of research in machine learning. The series called Facets of AGI makes a parallel between AI research working towards the creation of a human-like intelligence, and a secret society, loaded with spirituality and beliefs. - @obvious_art on Instagram

. QUÈ HEM DEMANAT? ⚠️⚠️UNA ASSEMBLEA CIUTADANA CATALANA PEL CLIMA ⚠️⚠️ 🕵🏼👩🏾⚕️👩🏻🌾🧑🏽🍳👨🏼🎓🧑🏾🏫👨🏽🏭👩🏽🏭👨🏽💻👨🏾💼🧑🏻🔧👩🏻🔬🧑🏼🎨👩🏼🚒👩🏾✈️👨🏼⚖️👷🏽♂️🧓🏽👨🏻🦳👩🏽🦰👩🏿🦱🧑🏽🦱👨🏼🦲🧔🏾👵🏼 . PER QUÈ? . 1️⃣ Perquè a causa dinteressos partidistes i electorals, la democràcia representativa no està preparada per afrontar i resoldre problemes complexos a mitjà i llarg termini. . . #medioevo #middleages #letteratura #manoscritto #bestiario #miniatura #manuscript #aberdeen #bestiary #cultura #arte #insegnante #passione #filologia - @letteratur_arte on Instagram

Sanchi Torso/Avalokiteshvara c. 900 Madhya Pradesh Sandstone The beautiful sculpture was found at Sanchi during the excavations of western gateway of Sanchi Stupa in 1883. For a very long time, its identification remained uncertain until a similar figure was found which was identified as Bodhisattva Maitreya. This helped to recognize this sculpture as that of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara. Both the figures must have flanked a Budda image on either side in a temple setting. The torso appears to wear a waistcloth, the border of the upper hem being ornamented with a foliated scroll. There is a girdle with small kirti-mukha clasp, the upper band being engraved with small birds, elephants, rosettes and other conventional motifs. Other details include a broad jewelled necklace with small bell-pendants and a skin of the Black Buck (krishnajina) worn over the left sholder, passing across the body and round the right side. Disinformation 3. False equivalence. Humans don’t have a well developed sense of gradations of bad, because we generally want to avoid things that are bad altogether. So, I can manipulate this weakness by making false connections between one bad thing and another. Let’s say, you have heard that Person A committed perjury, lying under oath. This particular lie might have terribly damaging nationwide impact. If you were to dwell upon the scale and damage of this lie, you would become angry at Person A and perhaps switch “sides” to Person B. I don’t want that. So to distract you, I assert that the opponent, Person B, also lies. He lied about a car that he bought, and how expensive it was. And this is true, he did lie. So if Person B lies and Person A lies, what’s the difference? But the goal of pointing out that Person B lies is not for you to compare the two lies, because one is much worse. The potential damage to the nation is not comparable to a lie about a car. My real goal is not to argue, it is to deactivate you. To actually to make you stop thinking about the big lie that Person A told. It’s like shutting off the flow of thinking, Like turning off an alarm bell. False equivalence falsely rebalances an out of balance situation, so that it goes back to zero in your mind, and you stop thinking about it. If someone brings it up, you will think “Oh well, person B lied too.” And then we will never revisit the vastly different scale of these two lies, because no one ever thinks about it. False equivalence stops you from thinking before you even get a chance to do so. Of course, by convincing you that all choices are equally bad I am also convincing you to do nothing, because what is the point? And so, a certain percentage of people will choose to do nothing, which is the only tactical point of bringing up a false equivalence. Many many disinformation techniques are just a fancy way of saying “sit down and shut up.” Inactive people increase the power of active people. - @joerohde on Instagram

This is the first in a series of 3 works I just finished titled Ancestor Busts. Lately I have been looking at a lot of African Oceanic and Pre-Colombian art. It was this research that gave me the idea to make these 3 Ancestor Busts. Each one of these Ancestor Busts is wearing a Wasekaseka necklace made from slivers cut from sperm whale teeth and originally worn by Fijian chiefs. They all also have an ancient Diula brass mask from the Ivory Coast at the center. These brass masks are some of the nicest I have come across. I love the half-shut eyes, the symbols of the crescent moons and the patina is just beautiful. I also used parts of face masks from other regions of Africa, wood carvings from Papua New Guinea, jewelry from the Solomon Islands and a variety of images of artifacts from different native and tribal traditions ranging from Tibet and India to Brazil and Mexico. Mixing up and combining images of objects from different backgrounds and making it look and feel as though they belong together is something I love to do. In this series I combine tribal face masks and artifacts used in ritual and ceremony along with objects that were meant to be both practical and beautiful. It is my hope that you will enjoy looking at these Ancestor Busts as much as I enjoyed making them. - @sebastianwahl on Instagram

🎉 This time last year we acquired a significant treasure - the St Marys Figure of Christ. The 13th Century figurine was made in Limoges, France, which was the most well-known European centre for champlevé enamel production during this period. The date ties in with a major phase of rebuilding at St Mary’s Abbey (1271 – 1294) during which the remains that can still be viewed today were built. It might be presumed that this object was acquired to furnish this newly built and richly appointed building. Figurines like these were made to be mounted on an enamelled cross, now missing, which would have decorated a religious object such as a manuscript cover or a casket. Very few medieval objects, least of all from Limoges, have a known provenance linking them to a major English Abbey as few survived the Dissolution of the Monasteries of the 1530s. It was rediscovered in 1826, just before the Yorkshire Philosophical Society acquired the land to build the Yorkshire Museum. Prior to this the land was fallow land used for grazing. Were thrilled to have it back on the site of St Marys Abbey, here at the Yorkshire Museum. - @yorkshiremuseumandgardens on Instagram

Kuna women from Panama made this fascinating hand-stitched mola panel in the late 20th century. Mola panels are attached to women’s traditional blouses. Biblical stories were popular themes: The design here depicts Saint Francis of Assisi with birds. The panel is made with multiple machine-made fabric layers with contrasting colors and patterns. The layers are cut to reveal the underlying colors and appliquéd together to create a unique image #FabricFriday Mola panel, Panama, San Blas Islands, 20th century. The Textile Museum 1985.56.36. Photo by Stephen Alvarez @salvarezphoto / San Rafael style Fremont pictographs on the San Rafael Swell in Utah. The culture that we call Fremont flourished in this part of the Southwest between 2,000 and 700 years ago. They left fabulous artwork on the landscape. Ive seen historic photographs of this particular panel where the white area to the left has well-defined paintings on it. My guess is that theyve fallen victim to natural weathering. . . . . . . #museosalinas #lestoriedituttinoi #archeologia #chitarra #ceramicart #selinunte #archaeology #ceramicartist #greekmythology #acusticguitar #museumweek #greekart #archaeological #cantastorie #ancientgreek #greekart #ancientmusic #museitaliani #mibact #beniculturali30 - @museosalinas on Instagram
