Had a nice 🤯 moment recently. . In 2005, shortly before I knew about Silver Apples, I was obsessed with @cariboumusic’s album “The Milk of Human Kindness.” I was particularly in love with the song “Hello Hammerheads.” A couple weeks ago I decided to pop on “Milk” and give it long overdo revisit. I put on my fav song and the hairs stood up on my arms. For the first time it was so clear to me that “Hammerheads” was a loving tribute to Silver Apples’ “Seagreen Serenades.” . I’m aware this is a very nerdy, potentially boring, realization to have—but I was blown away regardless. It was a connection that made me flash through my many years as a music lover. My ears as a young college guy weren’t yet trained for something as strange and special as Silver Apples, but teachers like Caribou pointed me in the right direction. So excited to finally get my hands on a #Thorens TD160. Since my preamp has two phono stages I was able to fully A/B compare it with my Music Hall (Pro-Ject) 5.1 and the Thorens wins hands down. Amazing, since this one was built in 1970 and has all original parts (except for a newer cartridge) and belt. Big ups for great engineering. Plus, you cant beat the classic styling. Honestly, this makes me happy just to look at it. I know... Im a dork.
