20 DAYS OUT **NOT JUST A PHYSIQUE UPDATE** . Finally took some progress photos for my coach @battlingbroscience who’s taught me so much these past 5 and a half months. . This is me at 3 weeks out, sitting at 178 lbs, feeling a little tired yet energized at the same time. Working hard towards a goal can do that. . I took awhile off of social media because I was finding myself unproductive and distracted. . I found myself distracted by others’ pages and falling into a toxic pit of comparison and self-doubt. . Recognizing that and changing my behaviour accordingly has done wonders for my well-being. . The detox allowed me to focus on my training and businesses, though I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t still difficult. . More so than a diet or training plan, having the mindset and the skills to overcome your own negative behaviours is what ultimately leads to success. . While prep has made me feel depleted at times, I remember my reasons for competing in the show - to educate my clients and others on flexible nutrition and show them that getting lean is achievable without drugs. . Before I get called out for being a fake natty, yes, I’ve taken PEDs in the past. Having tried the orals before, I’ve found they were not for me. I’m not against the use of drugs - to each their own, however, I want to advocate for more transparency and education, especially amongst coaches who train clients. . When dealing with people’s health, especially mental health, it’s important to be ethical and honest. . Put in the work to track your macros, progressively overload in the gym, and get good quality sleep. . This time in 2016 we were working in the studio @fifthelementz on the songs Ahmed and Children of Diaspora for the come back tour in September. As usual I left things way too late and we had to pull things together last minute. Originally I thought maybe we could do 3 or 4 shows maximum but when London sold out in less than 24 hours @sam_gill_music acted to expand the tour to more places in England, Scotland and Wales too. I was excited but nervous because I hadnt actually recorded any new music in five years and shows were selling out without the new stuff we promised even existing yet. Trauma can manifest in many ways sometimes putting you in a place of hyper vigilance when you dont need to be and even though I was about to do something very fun I was full of anxiety. It was a great period of time which looking back I should have taken the time to enjoy more. Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen and had patience with me at the time. Lavar @fifthelementz was being the hilarious person he is but must have been frustrated with my willingness to leave things so late. Eventually we got the song mixed and out about a week before the tour. When the London date came I was suprised that people already knew the lyrics to Ahmed. Big up to all the people involved in that 2016 tour. Eventually all shows apart from Liverpool and Cardiff sold out! @aboodii2121 @hamooza93 worked as tour managers despite the fact they had never done it before. Thank you to @cococh8n and @akalamusic for encouraging me to do it, getting me in the studio and connecting the dots. It is sad to think many of the venues we performed at those 4 years ago might be going out of business during this period. The support was there when I didnt even realise it and I am thankful to all who came to those gigs in 2016. Letting go. Acceptance. Letting in. These are the lessons coming in for me during this time; LETTING GO of expectations, standards of perfection and outdated ideas I’ve been holding about myself and the world around me. Feels like a deep exhale. ACCEPTING “not being there” yet, that I’m a work in progress, that I’ve been too hard on myself, that I have sabotaged many times my own happiness through exaggerated expectations of how I should be. LETTING IN new perspectives, new feelings, and a new reality to inhabit my mind, heart, body & spirit. Feels like a deep inhale. — Photo context: I came to the island of Brač, Croatia, to shoot content for The Four Fellowships, an upcoming course I’m teaching on emotional growth. It was a lucky break with European countries easing travel restrictions after months of Lockdown. It’s not my first Croatian venture so I certainly anticipated the beautiful sunsets over the ocean, starry skies that make the Milky Way visible to the naked eye and a deep connection with my inner landscape whenever I immerse myself in the outer one. But I didn’t anticipate this connection to the historic quarries found on the island from which stone has been harvested over the ages and used in construction all over the world—from the American White House to the parliament houses in Vienna & Budapest to Diocletian’s palace in Split. Raw. Course. Unpolished. Full of potential. Reminds me of me. Reminds me of us. And makes me fall in love more with our innate ability to connect with the inanimate and extract meaning and new value from things. Including ourselves. - @jovaferreyra on Instagram
