Ornamental Garden Seat Limestone, 145 x 170 x 251 cm, carved by Indian craftsmen and students of Reay Art Workshop of Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, 1936, CSMVS, Acc. no. 36.1 This Ornamental Garden Seat was sculpted at the iconic Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, India. It is made of limestone, locally known as Porbandar stone that lends itself to carving of fine details. The object, depicting mythical figures, lotuses, peacocks, lions, swans and elephants, was stored in a dismantled state in 122 pieces some of which were broken. A team of stone conservators worked for over six months and the fragmented pieces were conserved, missing sections carved and reassembled. It now adorns the CSMVS Museum lawns, and is used as a case study to teach stone conservation to aspiring heritage preservation practitioners. This object was conserved under the aegis of ConservArte: Citi-CSMVS Art Conservation Project - @csmvsmumbai on Instagram

Ein wichtiges Instrument für sie: eine freie Presse. An Hitlers 56. Geburtstag ist der „NS-Kurier“ in Stuttgart zum letzten Mal erschienen. „Trotz alledem“, hieß es in der braunen Postille, „auf den Trümmern unserer schönen Stadt hat zu stehen ein standhaft Herz.“ Unmittelbar danach demonstrierten die führenden Nazis der Stadt, was sie unter einem standhaften Herzen verstanden: Sie machten sich davon. Noch am gleichen Abend besetzten französische Panzer die Vororte auf den Fildern. Tags darauf standen sie auf dem Marktplatz. Obelisco e canhões 📸📜 Foram deixados pelos ingleses aproximadamente 20 canhões no pontal da Trincheira. Os canhões foram rolando para o fundo do mar, na proporção que ia desmoronando o barranco de blocos de piçarro, comido ou tragado pelo mar, e somente quatro dos canhões foram trazidos com muito custo da Trincheira para a cidade no ano de 1890. Dois canhões foram levados para a Praça Martim Afonso de Souza e estão expostos em base de cimento ao lado do Obelisco desde Agosto de 1931, quando Cananéia comemorava com festividades a passagem dos seus quatro centenários de fundação. O terceiro canhão foi levado para o alto do Morro São João e explodiu quando tentavam fazê-lo funcionar. O último canhão foi levado para a cidade de Iguape. Nabil Anani (@na.anani) took on experimenting with leather, after the First Intifada in Palestine took place. He, along with serval other artists, joined in to boycott Israeli merchandise as a way of protest. He remembered that he had been to a leather factory in Hebron, his native city, where the leather industry is historically located. He started using leather as canvas and henna (a natural local dye used for wedding rituals) and tea as paint. He recounted that the leather slipped and crumpled in the first painting he attempted to make, because he treated it as one would treat canvas, stretching it on a frame. Slowly Anani adapted to the new material, and its magnificent artistic value shown through. She’s probably most well known for “Fever,” though I’m more partial to her version of “Why Don’t You Do Right?” She voiced several characters in Disney’s Lady and the Tramp, including the sultry “Peg” singing “He’s a Tramp.” She performed with many top acts including: Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Quincy Jones, Perry Como, Bing Crosby, and Jimmy Durante. She starred with Danny Thomas in The Jazz Singer and had several other movie and TV roles. Her ashes are buried by her bench monument. Sıradaki “Giant’s Sleep” ile ilgili: Çocukken rüyalarımda yaşadığım bir “devlik hissi” vardı. Bir an gelir yükselir, bacaklarım uzar, gövdem büyür, yavaş yavaş boyum binaların tepelerini geçer, içim içime sığmazdı. Yıkıcı bir güç hissetmekle karışmasın, daha başka tür bir güçtü bu. Sonraları, 30’lu yaşlarıma geldiğimde, çocukluğumun rüyalarındaki bu aynı his, ansızın, günün değişik anlarında, uykularda değilken de gelmeye başladı. Travel Tuesday – Miller’s Park Sculptures, Lucas, Kansas Roy and Clara Miller created their park as a rest stop and recreation area along Kansas Highway 18, both for the citizens of Lucas and the public. They welcomed travelers, offered fresh water, eventually built cabins, and added playground equipment and picnic tables. Most importantly, they shared their small sculpture-filled park with visitors. They built miniature buildings for a tiny town and fashioned a rock garden of rocks and shells they gathered on their travels. During the 1920s, it was a Lucas gathering spot. Time passed, and the property was eventually sold in 1969 to settle the estate. The sculptures were moved to Hays, Kansas and became a tourist site known as Frontier Village. Initially a popular attraction, the effort faded and the sculptures were left to languish, but through the generosity and vision of Henry Schwaller IV, Miller’s Park returned to Lucas, Kansas. In 2012 and 2013, Kohler Foundation took on the preservation of Miller’s Park. The foundation was joined by a team of enthusiastic local volunteers, art conservators from Houston and Los Angeles, and preservation technicians to preserve the remaining forty-five sculptures. Miller’s Park now has a permanent location adjacent to the Garden of Eden in Lucas at 317 E. 2nd Street and is open daily. Irailaren 5ean hil zen Aimé Maeght, arte-merkatari eta galerista, baina batez ere Eduardo Chillidaren laguna. Maeght galeriako artisten konstelazioan parte hartu zuen Chillidak 1950etik 1981ean Aimé hil zen arte. Aimé Maeghtentzat Chillida “Mon petit” zen, hasieran galeriako artistarik gazteena baitzen. Gaur ere, agur berezia bidaltzen diogu @fondationmaeght-i, galeristaren ikuspegiarekin jarraitzen baitu. _ Un 5 de septiembre falleció Aimé Maeght, marchante de arte y galerista, pero sobre todo amigo de Eduardo Chillida. Chillida formó parte de la constelación de artistas de la galería Maeght desde 1950 hasta la muerte de Aimé en 1981. Para Aimé Maeght Chillida era “Mon petit” porque cuando empezó era el artista más joven de la galería. Hoy también mandamos un saludo muy especial a @fondationmaeght que continua con la visión del galerista. _ On September 5, Aimé Maeght, art dealer and gallery owner, but above all a friend of Eduardo Chillida, died. Chillida was part of the constellation of artists at Maeght Gallery from 1950 until Aimés death in 1981. For Aimé Maeght Chillida was Mon petit because when he started out he was the youngest artist in the gallery. Stupas, Bhaja Caves, Maharashtra. A group of 14 stupas, five inside and nine outside. The stupas are relics of resident monks, who died at Bhaja, and display an inscription with the names of three monks, Ampinika, Dhammagiri and Sanghdina. The stupas have been carved very elaborately and two of them have a relic box on their upper side.
