I want to take a moment to publicly thank everyone who continues to follow Madelines journey. I have heard parents complain that when a child passes people often leave their page. It makes sense as I know first hand it is difficult to follow someone elses grief. Its so scary and if a click of a button can remove you from the reality it doesnt seem strange to me at all that many would choose to unfollow. Anyway, seeing that that hasnt happened and that you are all still listening is heartwarming. ❤️ It really is. So thank you. And I know Madeline would also thank you for continuing to support us- thats all she was worried about. Today I was really struggling. Its ok. This is normal. Its been 78 days since I last kissed this beautiful face. Our entire family is in grief counseling/therapy and proud of the fact that we are taking care of ourselves, functioning and somehow, in some way, managing our pain. If there is ever a way we can honor Madeline it is to do just this. I promised her we would be ok and we are working SO hard to make every day the best we can- obviously you all know where we learned that skill. While 78 days certainly doesnt make me an expert in child loss I have learned that you never want to be told to move on. Madeline grew in my body. We created her and we grew together as a family and an emotionally healthy parent or sibling will never ever move on. We will, of course, as life works, continue to wake up each day and smile and do our best to be good people and impact the world as best we can like Madeline taught us. But we dont want to move on. It is impossible for a mother and child to break their bond- even through death. She will always be with me. And thats exactly how I want it. I completely understand the thought process behind telling someone to let go or move forward but I believe our children are given to us for a reason and that Madelines work here on earth is not done as long as I continue to stay connected to her spirit and continue to spread her gift. All I know is that you cant be blessed with a Madeline Grace Guarraia and ever move on from her. We are lucky to have loved her so much. - @prayers.for.madeline on Instagram

Bin ich schön? Ich denke, das ist eine Frage, die nicht nur mich beschäftigt. Jeder wird sich das wohl entweder häufiger oder auch nur ab und zu fragen. Und oft kommt man zu dem Ergebnis: Naja, es könnte besser sein. Und warum? Weil uns tagtäglich ein bestimmtes Bild von “Schönheit” vermittelt wird. Ist dieses Bild realistisch? Nicht wirklich. Oftmals bearbeiten erfolgreiche Menschen auf Instagram und anderen Plattformen ihre Bilder so, dass sie von der breiten Mehrheit der Bevölkerung als schön bewertet werden. Diese Menschen strahlen Perfektion, Selbstliebe und Selbstbewusstsein aus. Aber wie groß kann das eigene Selbstwertgefühl schon sein, wenn man das Gefühl hat seinen Körper derartig verändern zu müssen, um für andere schön zu sein? Ist das nicht ein ziemlicher Widerspruch? Als “normaler Mensch” sieht man diese Bilder und fühlt sich ungenügend, unpassend und nicht der Norm (haha) entsprechend. Wir vergleichen uns, schätzen andere herab, bezeichnen sie als hässlich, zu dick, zu dünn etc., um uns besser zu fühlen. Es geht irgendwie immer darum besser zu sein. Schade eigentlich. Man könnte doch auch einfach sagen “Du bist schön und ich bin es auch.” anstatt den eigenen ‘Wert’ zu steigern, indem man versucht den der anderen zu mindern. Es geht einem doch viel besser, wenn man dazu beiträgt, andere zu unterstützen, sie anzuerkennen und ihnen den Tag zu verschönern und wenn das durch ein noch so kleines Kompliment passiert. Also ja, ich bin schön. Ich bin schön, obwohl ich nicht den Schönheitsidealen unserer Gesellschaft entspreche. Ich habe keine perfekten Augenbrauen, keine perfekte Haut, keine perfekten Haare. Und genau das ist das Leben: Unperfekt. Und genauso wie ich schön bin, bist du es auch. Ich hab ziemlich lange gebraucht, um das zu kapieren und ich habe auch immer noch Selbstzweifel, mal mehr mal weniger. Aber die hat jeder. Jeder noch so selbstbewusste Mensch, jedes Instagram-Model, jeder. Und das ist ok. Aber was man nicht vergessen darf, es aber oft tut: Du bist nicht hässlich, nur weil ein anderer Mensch schön ist. Falls du dir die Mühe gemacht und bis hierher gelesen hast, Glückwunsch. Das war’s dann auch erstmal wieder von meiner Seite 🙆🏻♀️ - @krispeys on Instagram

Papercutter screened to an audience of strangers for the first time last night. It went *really* well, with a lot of very positive reactions. Then I did my first filmmaker Q&A, which was pretty wild, to say the least. There were only about 25 people in attendance, so it made for a nice “training wheels” sort of event for me. Here I am in the pediatrics section of the hospital - where gut health begins (that and I love Keith Haring). I want to share with you all my story about something I just experienced with my almost 3 year old son. He got a big bite under his eye that swelled up. When it didn’t get better and almost swelled his eye shut, we signed up for a telemedicine consult with a pediatrician. The first thing they recommended was antibiotics. Now I’m not a pediatrician so I respect their assessment and plan but I wanted to make my standpoint clear. “My son has never taken antibiotics and I would like to prevent unnecessary use. Is there anything else we can do or are antibiotics necessary now?” Try a couple doses of Benadryl and a compress and if it’s not better by the evening, then take the antibiotics, she said. Well, after the Benadryl and compresses, he was much better. And like that, I narrowly escaped unnecessary antibiotic use in my child’s growing microbiome. What can you do to preserve the gut health of your children... and yourself? 🗣 Make it understood that you prefer to avoid antibiotics and why (preserve the microbiome + prevent future disease) 🗣 If antibiotics are suggested see if it is appropriate to try anything else before starting antibiotics 🗣 If you do start antibiotics, start probiotics and fermented foods. #gutlove protect your (and your kid’s)gut - @gut_love on Instagram

1.2 mile swim ✔️ 56 mile bike ✔️ 13.1 mile run✔️ Completed my very first Ironman 70.3! I was terrified and for good reason. Slow and steady clearly did not win the race (as seen in picture 3) but feeling very accomplished! Getting kicked in the head numerous times during the swim and not being able to walk for a week was more than worth it. A great turnout at OUAs for the Brock Men’s and Women’s Squash Team! Women came out and gave all they had on the courts, down 3 players they still came out with wins against MacMaster, Waterloo and losing in a close 4-3 battle against the Western Mustangs, having the badger ladies place 4th 🐾 The men’s team played just as hard as the women’s team and managed to beat MacMaster and Toronto and losing in a close 4-3 to Guelph and Queens, having the men’s team place 5th!💪🏼 To top it all off our two Badgers, rookie Heather McLachlan and graduating Mo Hamour won this years OUA All-Star awards (not to mention its Hamour’s 4th year winning the OUA All-Star award) as well as OUA’s Women’s Rookie of the Year Award AND OUAs MVP Award both to McLachlan who did not lose a match ALL SEASON!
