It was a cool day, the sun was hiding behind clouds all day. The kid was Playing with toys and reading. Sergej greeted the man and discussed the type of session to get. He looked at me said “half hour ? Hour?” I answered back prolly a hour. Ee split the session and payed him in euro. We entered the room the floor was black with white lines like a zebra. The walls had foam and there was a small table. Roughly the same size as my 404. While in Berlin visiting Germany i brought a Roland sp 404sx, which is a sampler. I had only owned the 404 for a few months so wasn’t as familiar with it as i am now. I loaded it with bird chirping samples , a couple drums and a few keys. While we played for that hour after a short ten minute set up, we both explored the new atmosphere our layers were creating. We collected broken tees from 6 golf courses last summer, mostly on a golf camping trip in Michigan. The rules allow golfers to tee up their ball on the first shot of every hole, and most players take advantage of this opportunity to prop the ball up for perfect impact. Often times, the tee will break during impact with the club, and many golfers neglect to pick up their broken tees. While one golfer may not pick up their broken tee, future golfers often use broken tees they find to prop up their ball on shorter Par 3 holes. We collaborated with Chicago-based artist Lola Dement-Myers (@nikehand) to make these six smash-to-open tee boxes that hold the broken tees from each course. Lola Dement Myers (b. 1997) is a self proclaimed capitalist who has been online for a very long time. She studied conceptual design at the Art Institute of Chicago. “When nothing goes right, go left” I read this quote on a motel sign while on a solo road trip to Colorado recently. It has really stuck with me. When life feels like it’s falling apart, sometimes you just have to go in a different direction. It even is true with this piece. I have created so many paintings in the last 2 weeks. Many have elements that I like, but as a whole, they they just weren’t working for me. After having the idea to put them all together, it fought me too.
