@ultraczech515 day 3: double marathon: 1st place, 7:04. Overall (10-424-84.4): 1st place, 20:56 (new WR over Ultraman distance) After two days of very intense cycling, my legs were trashed. And with summer spent mostly racing short triathlons, I had no idea how to survive this running mileage. To my surprise, after initial 15k of struggle, my legs came back and managed to keep my pace under 5 min/k for 55k. For the rest it was all about inner fight between my body and mind:-). Build up for 5th appearance at @londonmarathon almost in the books, and unfortunately the last few weeks haven’t gone smoothly. It’s easy to focus on the aches and pains, but got to focus on the positives now and hope somehow all feels ok come race day. I’ve always preached about looking back on the good sessions, to try and build confidence, so here goes... This is the 11th marathon build up I’ve been through, and over the last 80 days I’ve run 1165 miles (14.5mi a day or 102mi a week for 11.5 wks). I’ve completed 25 sessions of marathon pace or quicker, so plenty of work in the bank. That’s on top of the build up that never was for April. Yesterday was easily one of best, the hardest, and most inspiring days of my life. The weather was absolutely insane, raining every step of the way, sometimes torrential downpours and sometimes a bit less, and wind gusts of over 30 mph right in our faces. But despite all that, I had an amazing squad of DFMC team mates (several of us that managed to stick together for more than half the race), my dad who ran the last 7+ miles with me, and my loving and supportive boyfriend, family and friends who drove to multiple spots on the course throughout the day and stood in the miserable weather to cheer me on and give me wet hugs. Not to mention all the die hard, Boston Strong fans along the way, and support from friends and family near and far in the form of contributions to my fundraising for the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge. We ran this race for so much more than finish times and medals around necks. Every person on team DFMC has someone they’re running in honor or memory of, and most people have more than one. Every time the rain got harder or the wind blew stronger I thought about all the names I carried with me and pushed a little bit more. When the marathon miles get tough, know that thousands of other runners are (virtually) running out there with you. As an 8x #BostonMarathoner, here are my top tips for running your best race, even if it’s solo: 1️⃣ Wear your race bib and make sure your name is on your singlet! You’ll get lots of cheers (and if you need some to get you through a tough mile, tell people you are running the marathon and need some crowd support! 👏🏼) 2️⃣ Fuel and hydrate well! Remember that on Marathon Monday, you’re provided with water and Gatorade every 1-2 miles so make sure you don’t skimp on your own marathon course 😉 Pro Tip: If you ever feel thirsty mid-race, you’ve waited to long to hydrate, and with fuel, think of it as “topping off” your glycogen stores throughout, not waiting until you feel like you need it. 3️⃣ Brainstorm a variety of mental strength tactics that’ll help you when times get tough! Une course a laquelle je me suis inscrit et que javais totalement oublié 😅 jusquà que je reçois un sms, mr. venez retirer votre doss... ah merde😂 Dès le départ, je voulais le faire a fond, voir ce que ca donne après 1 semaine de mon #100kmdelasomme. Après 3km déchauffement, je trouve deux gars au bon rythme, Mathieu et Raoul (photo), leur objectif était de faire 1h35, parfait pour une reprise sérieuse... on va pas se quitter jusquà larrivée, ou presque... Mathieu étant plus frais. Les 10km premier en 44mn, la deuxième partie plus laborieuse, normal 😅 javais encore de lacide lactique qui me sortait par le nez😂 toujours très fatigué, mais très content de mes 1h33, parcours assez roulant... HUMBLED.  HONORED.  HUNGRY. Having never done a triathlon before, or even a marathon, I knew taking on a full Ironman was going to be more than just an opportunity to challenge myself. It would be one of those rare experiences that would force me to look inward in the most radical of ways. Even with all the training, you just don’t know how your body will hold up over 140 miles. What your mind will tell you after 10+ hours of intense effort. I was voluntarily throwing myself into the abyss hoping I would be able to pull myself out. At some point you’re going to question why you’re out there, the reasons you’re doing it, what’s really driving you. It will strip you bare and leave you a little more raw and honest. And in a world that often discourages consistently being either?  It was exactly what I was looking for. And then some. Expectations were shattered and I came out the other end with a deeper, richer version of myself than I could have imagined. Shes pictured here with not one but two models she built for the competition. 🥇 Pranavi says: I love telescopes. I am waiting to see the launch of JWST. I hope one day, I can become a scientist and use JWST to find exoplanets. I learnt about JWST 2 years ago. Building the scale model helped me understand how difficult the real JWST would be to build. 🥇 I used the [John Jogerst] instructions on the JWST website. Building the 5 layer sunshield was the most difficult. My first attempt didnt end well as I added mylar on both sides and the whole solar panel didnt look good. My second attempt worked. The wooden JWST was the easier one to build. 2019 Chicago Marathon ✅!! Going into this race I had a lot of negative thoughts and self doubt as to if I was capable of getting a PR or even going sub-3 in the marathon again. As amazing as my whole Boston experience was back in April, the race itself left me felling very deflated and unsure of myself as a runner. I didn’t know if I was capable of more. Plain and simple- I had “0” confidence. The Chicago training segment started and from start to finish the confidence wasn’t there. I felt like it was a pretty 50/50 split of great workouts and horrible workouts. But either way, the confidence wasn’t there. Race morning rolled around and nothing had changed. The gun went off and with it, so did all negativity. I found myself constantly smiling and enjoying the sites and spectators along the course. Somewhere around the first 5k I found myself running next to @andycradtke and from there to about 20-22 mile mark we talked and ran together! The funny thing for me was, any time a negative thought creeped in, there was Andy with something positive or funny to say and it instantly snapped me out of it. For the large majority of the race Andy and I ran together and ended up having quite the pack behind us! As you can see we aren’t exactly short, so there was a lot of people tucking in and drafting off of us which was great! Pain enjoys company and we fed off of it! Around mile 23 was when my body decided it had had enough and my low back and groin kept locking up on me. Anytime I tried to push the pace my body would lock up again. I had to back off the pace a little and just gut out the last 5k. Up until mile 23, I was on pace for a good PR but it didn’t happen. I missed both my “A” and “B” goals and getting a PR by about 30 seconds and I couldn’t be happier about it! Sure, it would have been nice but I got something 100x more important to me, I got my confidence back!! I’m capable of breaking 3 hours and I know I’m capable of a lot more! So thank you Andy, thank you @michael_crouch88 and thank you @ryanbaugus @hq_pt for your roles in a great day! 2:53:19 and my first sub-3 in a WMM! - @nhaney75 on Instagram

Ep 1 of PINDROP, the podcast Im hosting for @TED , is up! And Apple put it on the top row of the front page of Apple Podcasts! Super grateful! Some behind the scenes: I couldnt go to Bangkok for this episode, but we worked with Pailin Wedel, a really dope Thai-American filmmaker/journalist who was on the ground, recording, riding through traffic with motorcyle police midwives (!) all kinds of stuff. When it came time to record narration, some of it came from me interviewing Pailin about the stories, but some had to be just me narrating. I was nervous. The @magnificentnoise and TED production team had done a bunch of great recording in Bangkok and groundwork for the episode, but it was my first time hosting a podcast. I wanted to sound natural, and I wanted to make sure I didnt, um, say anything dumb about Bangkok. So, I called up my friend Raj Bunnag ( Thai-American artist, has lived out in Bangkok, IG @jungle_asian_redneck , pictured above and a shot of his art in the last slide), and asked him to just sit socially distanced away and listen to me work through narration and riffing new bits. He came through with @thereallaww , and while at first I thought theyd just check me when I sounded stiff or said something that felt off, Raj kept riffing himself and saying fascinating, funny things. So we micd him up, interviewed him, and sent that tape off to the producers as well, not sure what to expect. Producer @betweenthebranches was into the new tape, and that is the story of how Bojangles lovin Durhamite Raj Bunnag ended up in the episode. AFI YEAR 2!!! BACK AT IT!!! AHHH!!!!Honestly, I’m so thrilled and nervous (and still recovering a bit from Year 1). Last year was life-changing. I did a terrible job at posting about it because I was kinda overwhelmed—artistically, emotionally, professionally, personally. Overwhelmed in amazing ways—inspired, surrounded by wildly talented peers, guided by mentors, constantly creating. Overwhelmed in less-than-amazing ways—filled with fear, self-doubt, torn down in critique, lots of phone calls to Mom, lots of long-distance love from my closest friends. It was really tough. But I can’t wait to dive into this year.
