This shot is obviously pre-concert or post AFTER I showered and coiffed again because otherwise I would look like a drowned rat!! John MC’d the show which was actually FOUR sold out back-to -back. I remember being the “bar band” at Ontario place playing to no one UNTIL the stadium emptied out and you got a crowd of inattentive thirsty post-concert goers. I remember distinctly saying, as I listened to the headliners being cheered on in the forum,”Mark my words...one day THAT will be us!” The very next year we broke the record attendance there. He was the toughest guy I’ve ever known. No fear in him whatsoever. I first played with Frankie in 1981. I’ll so miss our psychic connection on stage as a rhythm section. We shared a common love for Jazz Fusion as well as the mighty Led Zep and others which helped fuse this strong musical bond. “I think that one of the things about the film that I find interesting is that the Alva Posse gets their recognition. I mean, these are some pretty influential skateboarders. Fred Smith. Dave Duncan. Billy Danforth. All of them. They sold a bunch of boards. The Alva Posse photograph with all of us in the leather jackets is in there. It was in Chicago on a rooftop. We were all there at the same time for a shop gig, a demo… something. Scott Gross specialized in B&W film so we went up on the roof and took it. All in all, the film is just another interpretation of things. Buddy and Rick put it together and Jeff Grosso guides it. It’s a bit heartbreaking to watch now. It’s almost Jeff’s film rather than mine. In it, he talks about the price I paid and skateboarders pay sometimes to live the life some of us lead. He is quoting my Skateboarder Interview. He quotes, “Be prepared to suffer the consequences.” Then Jeff states, “I’m a perfect example of that.” Jeff gets to the end of the film… before the end ever arrives. I hope everyone likes the film. Years back we did a Co- Headlining Arena Tour with our good friends Tesla for 11 months. So much fun, we went fishing on days off and had an overall blast with them!! We discovered these boys on a day off from the Judas Priest tour when a band called City Kid opened for us at a club we played in Sacramento. This isn’t to announce my birthday but rather an introduction to a lifelong story to show how dreams do come true and why I believe they still exist in this world. Ive been thinking over and over how to write this given how Au Revoir Simone and I have now become friends! Hopefully I can articulate how their music is truly a force and taught me the importance of music overall. 11 years ago I was 17 yrs old. I found out that my childhood idols, Au Revoir Simone, were recording their album in Sacramento where I grew up and was living at the time. So many emotions flooded me as I wondered why they would be in Sacramento of all places (theyre from New York). I reached out to them as I usually did because I was so emotionally invested and obsessed with their music. To my teen hearts surprise, they accepted my invite to meet at a coffee shop in midtown! Me, a super fan, a young teenager full of emotional energy and a soul that was melded by their music. They wanted to drink coffee with me and just me?! I remember I exclaimed my profound excitement through acts of gibberish as my mother watched her ridiculous child flop around the living room floor. It was one of those few surreal moments you get in your life that is so pure flabbergast but full of adrenaline and luck. Let’s go back. THEY were my first introduction into electronic music. Remember during Myspace days you were able to choose “that one song” to represent yourself? Well, one day I was on my cousin’s profile and her song of choice was “Backyards of Our Neighbors” by Au Revoir Simone I remember just sitting still, in shock. That day I refreshed her page over and over again just to listen to the song again and again. I don’t really quite know how to explain the feeling when a sound you never heard before or knew existed, hits your ear. It opens your world and changes your way of being, introducing you to many unexplored emotions in your life. That is what this song did for me. Such is the story of @panache__ who joined my first virtual online training batch and Im so happy to see her progress in the last few months, delighted to have such amazing folks who put in their time, effort and most importantly faith in the teaching. From trying to do those baby beast and crab crawls to nailing those Underswitches, learning one move at a time and uploading videos for feedback regularly. I used to stay in hostel for my studies and would eat a lot of fast food rather than preferring healthy food. Before I was way too slim and later then I started gaining my weight. I gained around 10-15 kgs. Even my parents and friends were surprised to see me. So then I became conscious about my diet and exercises. I realised the importance of healthy lifestyle. But during this phase what I learned was that people around me were okay regardless of my body shape/size . Everyone around me were so motivating or they were not even concerned how I look. It was me who was more concerned about what people think of me. I just realised that its okay however you are. The HIGH Story: When Amber Met Emily Six years ago High Fitness was born but that idea would not have been conceived without our founders Amber Zenith and Emily Nelson. The two met at a boutique gym where they both worked and were fitness instructors. Emily thriving as a group fitness instructor convinced Amber (a total non-dancer) to teach dance fitness. Reluctantly Amber did and loved but in order to do the moves she would simplify Emily’s routines. People loved this way of teaching and Amber knew they needed to start their own fitness format using these methods. With a mix of dance, fitness, aerobics and the effectiveness of a high intensity workout, they joined forces and created what we know as High Fitness. Photo by Mike Leberge. - In 1989, Englands Extreme Noise Terror were at the forefront of the crust genre. Having just released their masterpiece A Holocaust In Your Head, there were few bands who rivaled their reputation in the game. Their contemporary brew of aggressive hardcore was distinct and forceful, making waves all the way across the pond into America and inspiring a new crop of groups with their dual-vocal onslaught. Perhaps the most notable of those were Massachusetts band Disrupt. While still relatively new to the scene, they were already playing a style of music that earned them the moniker as the American ENT. Clearly its foolish to try and dispute the obvious similarities, but most seasoned listeners of the genre would bluntly tell you that comparing the two groups is unfathomable and borderline sacrilege. At the very start of their existence, Disrupt vocalists Pete Kamarinos and Jay Stiles were in discussion with their unofficial brothers across the ocean in regards to collaborating on a split EP for their premier release. This record would never materialize, however the bands remained in contact and forged a long distance kinship for years to come. They would eventually go on to collaborate on a project called Disabuse, releasing the sole eponymous EP in 1994. Still, while both bands went on to carve their own niche in the annals of crust history, one cannot help but imagine how this aborted concept played into the ultimate legacy of Disrupt as a standalone, classic band. In an interview with Jay Stiles of Disrupt, we explore how the two bands first came in contact, how the idea for the 7 came about, and why it ultimately never came to fruition.
