En mi casa crece golden berry, lo hace como maleza y con uno de mis hijos hice mermelada. Por la tanto, creo que puedes juntar todos los recursos que trae la naturaleza. En mi casa tengo árboles de damasco, membrillo y empezamos a pensar en cómo utilizar este recurso y disminuir el impacto de la huella de carbono. Además, Con una de mis hijas blendeamos té, con flores, frutas y hierbas, de cultivos de la casa”- nos contó Cecilia. ⁣ ⁣ Elabora mermelada de damasco con flores de lavanda, genera elaboraciones de té y se preocupa de que su proyecto productivo sea sustentable, sostenible y tenga un valor agregado, por lo mismo busca diferenciarse de lo que tradicionalmente se ofrece. Piensa invertir el fondo en la creación de un invernadero, porque años atrás tuvo uno y tiene la instalación de luz y agua de la nave.⁣ ⁣ “Estoy muy motivada y también fue de mucha ayuda encontrarme con PRODEMU, porque hay momentos en que no ves nada más, no sabes qué hacer y en PRODEMU te señalan un camino y te das cuenta de que eres capaz de hacer muchas cosas. (Check my IG story for the full outfit heehee) Nina (or Chap as I call her) and I have known each other since we were 13 (wow that’s 30 years!) and thanks to her influence, I love everything Ilokano. With a couple of our high school friends, we went on an epic 10 hour road trip to her hometown of Batac after graduation and we had the most amazing time, eating pinakbet and dinengdeng, bagnet and longganisa, empanada with sukang Iloko, going to the sand dunes and the beach, practically all the touristy spots, and we even watched a local beauty pageant. I remember going home with a bayong filled with suka, chichacorn, longganisa and garlic! When Nina & I were in our 20s, I went with her to Ilocos, this time by plane, and I realized Ilocos was more accessible that way heehee. That time, Tita Baby @consuelocorpuz brought us to a pottery store and I remember going home, again overladen with so many goodies, I have always thought of Ilocos as a wonderland and a treasure trove of finds. All the more when Nina helped bring the spotlight on their handwoven fabrics called Inabel, when she started @ninainabel with the encouragement of Dr. @jovencuanang, as a way to encourage farmers to plant local cotton, increase the demand for the work of Ilokano weavers and encourage young Ilokanos to take up an age-old craft using ancient looms that trace its roots back to the galleon trade. Some of the fabrics she uses to make her pieces have the signature of Magdalena Gamayo, recognized by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) in the Philippines as a National Living Treasure. That is why when we buy Nina Inabel, we not only own a piece of history, we also help revive the weaving community, mostly involving women. Now this stylish tapis takes on a whole new meaning, right? My name is Savanna- aka Vanna or Sav’s.. welcome to my Ted Talk. The last 7 months, especially this past month, has been nothing but a whirlwind. Many changes have happened but that’s all apart of life. My life motto has always been “everything happens for a reason whether we know the reason or not.” Well, I’ve formed two others to go by: 1. when you feel like giving up, learn to rest instead of quit. 2. we never know when our last day will be so embrace each day and live for what this life has to offer. This past weekend I had time to reflect, breathe and just be. It was a good reminder to not get so caught up with work, not to let work lead into my off days, not let work occupy my mind and give me the unnecessary stress. It was a good reminder to embrace the good and the bad days and to keep going. It was a good reminder to keep my faith strong, there’s always a plan. It was a good reminder to not lose myself-keep being goofy, keep being serious at times when I need to be, keep loving with my whole heart, to get out of my comfort zone and try new things, to cry when I need to cry because that’s ok, to feel every emotion when they arise because that’s apart of being human, and just keep going. Watts describes his abstract compositions as windows through which distinctions between objective reality and constructed representations are blurred. The bodily is evoked through Watts’ use of diaphanous textiles, such as poly-chiffon and silk, which create semi-opaque surfaces that possess what the artist describes as “an embodied vulnerability.” Watts’ works question the way in which society thinks about the effects and materiality of racialized skin on display. Like skin, the works appears porous and breathable as light decelerates as it passes through the surfaces. This materiality is amplified in Watts’ works installed on black walls, the painted surface behind his work being integral to how the work is perceived. . . .
