I am spacing them out so I can savor this show and share it without it disappearing immediately. I saw all of this work amidst the chaos of the studio and the world surrounding it. The brief moment of joy that comes when hanging a show before it opens is one that I really miss. Wandering the space by myself and getting to really see the work is something that honestly... Hybrid Vigor, which hasnt been on view in more than 40 years, is a monumental example of American artist Helen Frankenthaler’s signature “soak-stain” technique. In this painting, strips of blue paint and bands of white heighten the horizontality of the painting. While #ScottLaufer’s recent works might initially read as appropriation, they prove better understood in the context of their creation, as well as the artist’s protracted and evolving process. . Initially learning to paint by candidly and faithfully copying Old Masters, Laufer came to seek the same inventiveness that distinguished those painters from their contemporaries. Typically employed as court painters, these artists were praised for their ability to faithfully render royalty, nobility, religious iconography, and the accompanying accoutrements thereof. . Now, though, museum audiences seek out paintings by these painters, as opposed to those of their subjects. This distinction proves crucial, as Laufer teases apart the act of painting from the sliding facts of subject matter and portraiture, focusing instead on the innate qualities of the paint and its underlying intentionality. . Thus, rather than appropriate known images, Laufer’s paintings–much like the museum itself–change their meaning. Fraught histories, shadowy origin stories, doomed subjects, and regal fabrics become parts of glyphic abstractions that speak to the changing conception of tradition, which continues to come under deserved scrutiny. . Laufer’s practice, from the techniques he employs to the images he renders, contribute to discussions of identity and cultural history in painting, and their effect on current understandings of medium, context, and, ultimately, the meaning and consequence of contemporary oil painting. . We bought this chandelier 17 years ago at McKinney Wrecking in El Paso. It’s been in storage ever since. EP friends think it came out of the Paseo del Norte Hotel. So much thanks to @mevsrobots Because of him, it’s found its home. He’s our favorite tinkerer. We had to cut 14” to make it work over the asterisk table. 28 lights on a 2000 watt dimmer. A recent Seattle Business magazine #MadeinWA photo series features Viper Bats Inc., which began has a hobby business in the early 2000s run from founder and former SC Johnson salesman Don Fine’s garage. He originally began making wood bats for his son and his teammates, who decided to form their own wood-bat baseball team while in high school. Fine’s hobby soon turned into a full-time endeavor, prompting him to quit his day job and launch his own company in 2004. Today, Viper Bats sells about 15,000 bats a year, with annual revenue approaching the $1 million mark. Fine’s son, Chris, also helps his dad run the five-employee company as the office manager and website director. Viper’s handmade bats ― crafted from high-quality woods, such as maple, birch, ash and bamboo ― are manufactured at the company’s shop in Sedro Woolley and sold online or directly to teams, leagues and players. The first story we want to share with you is from @studiorens. They presented their Re-vive project during Ventura Lambrate in 2014 and are still working on this collection now. For Studio RENS it’s all about reuse. From a young family in college to an aspiring singer/song writer we created 3 unique spaces to reflect their unique personalities! When recipients arrive for their pick-up 🚛we provide a full digital walk through of the home and let them know about the design and set up of the space! We hear so often “This space is so me!” 😍 Once we review the incredible items the recipient meets with our Program Director to review resources from our @asohresources Network while we load the truck! We work daily with partner agencies to ensure our recipients are set up for success! 🤝 Once they set up their space they are welcomed to attend our monthly webinars to review resources and they learn how they can pay-it-forward to the next recipient! 💕 Thank you to everyone who continues to make 3-5 homes per week happen. It is that time again... We have been working on our new spring summer 2021 Collection for the last couple of months and are finally able to present it to you at Paris Fashion Week. At the beginning of this year, when we were in our Paris showroom the last time for the presentation of our current winter collection, most of the appointments were gradually cancelled because of COVID-19. We were devastated and sad that nobody could see this beautiful collection we worked so hard on. Today, we are more than happy that after six months of hard work, tears and sweat, we are back in Paris and able to prove ourselves once again with another season, which was definitely not clear after the last one.
