Dear Friends and Family, Many of you know, I grew up in a small town, a truly unique area where American sub cultures are proudly celebrated. Where even three, four, five, generations later you put 100 of us in a room and you will get people who will say I’m Portuguese, I’m Polish, I’m Puertorican I’m Italian, I’m Irish, I’m Dominican, Im Greek, I’m Chinese, I’m Mexican etc etc.. even if there’s 100 people from same group in one room rarely and (hometown people) correct me if I’m wrong do you ever hear someone say I’m American or I’m white first. I know that this is true because every summer as a kid I ate at everyone’s food festivals all the way through August. We’re not perfect at some point or another we’ve had cultural differences or riffs or whatever but ultimately in my town we embrace each other’s cultures we share recipes and before you know it A Polipuertoguese baby is born. If you come from a sub-culture melting pot proud town like mine you’ve probably embraced the idea that although we may be different culturally being American and flying our red white and blue flag is what unites us, it does, that is beautiful. This might be true in a lot of communities, but Unfortunately a lot of our black brothers and sisters all over the country have been telling us simply that they don’t have that same experience. They can’t be black, proud and American and it’s not fair. I urge everyone to please simply tell our Black American siblings that we see them we hear them and we are ready at the waiting to help AMPLIFY their message. Don’t lose momentum together we can continue to bridge the divide for love peace and equality. To my black friends continue to be LOUD PROUD and UNAPOLOGETICALLY Black.
