#PortPeople: Inez (32) is a lecturer Nautical Sciences at the @antwerpmaritimeacademy, where she teaches safety courses to freshmen. Every maritime student must master a set of survival skills at sea before they are allowed to sail any kind of 🚢. We actually bumped into Inez during a firefighting excercise with her students 👩‍🚒. Aside from safety, she also teaches ECDIS (aka electronical map navigation) to sophomores: what should students pay attention to when sailing? And what are the dangers? Inez has years of practical experience herself. As a Master in Maritime and Transport law she started her impressive career on a chemical tanker 😮 A period she describes as very intense, as it meant a continuous series of two months of sailing vs. two months at home. She also worked offshore on seagoing vessels that install pipelines on the seabed. These type of ships, with 400 employees on board, can pretty much be considered a floating factory. After nearly 10 years of sailing adventures, life brought her back to where it all begin: the Antwerp Maritime Academy 🏫. As a lecturer, Inez is very passionate about providing our youth with the very best maritime education there is. Septiembre, mes de la COSECHA DEL ARROZ en la Albufera Aún quedan algunos labradores con los que compartir la transformación que ha sufrido el cultivo del arroz en los últimos 50-60 años. Lejos quedan aquellas jornadas largas y maratonianas de siega del arroz a mano; cuadrillas de jornaleros procedentes de diversas zonas de Valencia y alrededores, dormían en barracas y graneros repartidos por el marjal, lejos de sus familias y allegados durante una larga temporada. Una vez en la faena, algunas veces, tenían suficiente fuerza como para rebelarse y pedir un aumento de su jornal, antes de seguir con sus labores, con el peligro de que “el amo” perdiese la cosecha. Todo aquello pasó a la historia, las primeras cosechadoras que llegaron a la Albufera, se probaron en el Tancat de l’Estell de Arroz Tartana en El Palmar y en la Finca de El Saladar en Sueca, dos cosechadoras alemanas dispuestas a mecanizar el método de siega que se había llevado a cabo tradicionalmente en la Albufera desde la conquista de los árabes en el 711 d.c., dónde éstos introducen el cultivo del arroz en Europa por primera vez. Actualmente, la siega manual no se ha perdido del todo, Arroz Tartana sigue cosechando a mano las orillas de los campos dónde no alcanza la máquina de cosechar. Todos los arroces, dicen si hay alrededor de 100.000 variedades en el mundo, se deben cosechar con la humedad que les corresponda para garantizar su máxima calidad gastronómica. Ahí entra la pericia del labrador, para saber cuándo es el momento ideal para segar. Del campo, el arroz se lleva al secadero. La forma tradicional se realiza de forma natural extendiendo el arroz en la era, y con la brisa del Mar Mediterráneo. Industrialmente, se realiza con una secadora mecánica. Un secado adecuado, garantiza la calidad del arroz a la hora de cocinarlo y degustarlo. Una vez seco el arroz, el fruto y sudor del agricultor de toda una campaña, queda almacenado en los graneros para su venta. Disebutkan, benih yang dipanen muda itu banyak nutrisinya sehingga bagus untuk kesehatan, lho!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 🧑🏻‍🌾Bahan:⁣⁣ -Tray atau wadah⁣⁣ -Benih microgreen⁣⁣ -Media tanam berupa cocopeat⁣⁣ 🧑🏻‍🌾Caranya:⁣⁣ 1. Siapkan benih yang akan ditanam dan rendam didalam air untuk mempercepat tumbuhnya sprout. Untuk benih besar dan keras seperti sunflower, wheatgrass, kangkung, kacang-kacangan sebaiknya direndam antara 6-12 jam⁣⁣ 2. Good news! A team of scientists from Northwestern University in Illinois (US) have found a way to break down the bonds that make polyethylene. Polyethylene is one of the most common types of plastic. We find it many household products like plastic bags, bottles, etc. The process cuts the plastic polymer turning it into liquid oil. It does that through a catalytic technique using metal nanoparticles to chop the polymer apart. This liquid oil can then be used for other purposes, like lubricant, and scientists are looking into other potential uses. The strong bonds that make polyethylene are what makes plastic so durable. It is why plastic never degrades. Image 1: The DP 2034 has now allowed for 100% or 40% of layout open spaces to be provided on podiums, with the remaining 60% on the ground to facilitate water percolation during the monsoons. However, this provision is in gross violation of a Hon’ble Supreme Court judgement by order of Justice (H.L.) Gokhale that mandates 100% of the layout open space on ground. The Hon’ble Supreme Court, in its judgement, has emphasized the need for open spaces, particularly on ground, from an environmental point of view. It is well known that trees and open spaces on ground play a crucial role in preventing water-logging and run-off. DP 2034 will only exacerbate flooding woes in Mumbai as the city sees an annual average rainfall of 2,000 millimeters, which went as high as 3,000 millimeters in 2019. Provisions like these would result in a significant reduction of these open spaces. Moreover, permitting shifting of recreational space from the ground level to the podium will lead to widespread concretization – across Mumbai’s planning area of 437 sq km – diminishing the green cover in the city. Additionally, there would be a further increase in temperatures across the city. Image 2: The Planning Committee submitted its Report to the MCGM in March 2017 on the DP provisions. It had recommended planting of indigenous trees, as these native trees help maintain the ecological balance. We unrolled our @nodirugs on the weekend and it has exceeded expectation. We decided on the Noughts Weave in the darker shade, a bold looped texture and a little blue, which looks yummy with all our Rimu wood. The shape of the rug is a lot squarer than our previous, which tricks the eye and make our tiny living space appear more spacious - see before and after in stories. And it is so soft (all the toys have been carried out from the bedroom and onto the rug).
