Update on data from Labor Day: We are now 3 weeks out from Labor Day & have not experienced a surge in cases similar to after Memorial Day & July 4th. While we may still see increases in cases due to activities over the Labor Day Holiday, we do not predict a similar surge. Please keep doing your part to #SlowTheSpread of #COVID19. It is part of our collective responsibility to do our best to not transmit the virus to others, especially those with underlying health conditions. It is also vital for our recovery that businesses continue to follow protocols and we in LA County continue to wear face coverings, physical distance, get tested, and isolate and quarantine as needed. The history of deforestation probably dates back to the first felling activity that was ever carried out during pre-historical times to accommodate a population that thrived along the fringe of a forested area. The reasons for the preference could have been easier access to forest products, easy hunting ground, notably more precipitation around the area that aided agrarian pursuits or even anthropomorphism. Whatever the reasons behind the activity being initiated, it has assumed alarming proportions today and is threatening the ecosystem and delicate balance between man, nature and life-supporting atmosphere. #stopdeforestation #onthelapofnature #savetree #savenature #saveplanet - @onthelapofnature on Instagram

These companies have spent millions so that you will never know their names and their role in the Grenfell Tower fire. Last week we saw the Conservatives, including Kensington’s MP Felicity Buchan, vote against implementing the recommendations from the first phase of the Inquiry as law. These companies and the council have spent more on legal costs than what it would’ve cost to use fire-safe materials. This country will always bury injustice in inquiries that this government will then vote against. There is no justice without accountability. Today marks 39 months since the fire and not a single individual has been arrested. Instead, they’ve enjoyed increased profits since the fire, awards for housing and renewals of contracts across the country. Three years later, there are still hundreds of blocks across the UK clad in flammable materials. This government promised to remove them by June 2020. This government is complicit so we cannot trust them to hold them this council or these companies to account. Learn their names. They are the criminals responsible for the 72 lives we lost. *This is by no means an exhaustive list. There are up to 60 companies involved and more evidence is coming out as the inquiry proceeds. Instead, please use this as a starting point to further your research and follow the work of: @grenfell_united @officialj4g @uk_cag @insidehousingmagazine / @InsideHousing (Twitter) @PeteApps (Twitter) @lowkeyonline + Grenfell Inquiry Podcast #JusticeforGrenfell Forever in our hearts. 💚 - @khadijadraws on Instagram

Yesterday the world marked a tragic milestone: 1 million deaths from COVID-19. Thats according to a tally maintained by Johns Hopkins University. And public health experts believe the actual toll – the recorded deaths plus the unrecorded deaths – is much higher. While the number of cases has slowed in many countries that were hit hard early on by coronavirus, the number of new cases continues to increase. Since early July, new daily cases averaged over 200,000 worldwide. Tap the link in our bio to explore more charts to find a country-by-country breakdown of new and total cases since January. At over 6 million cases, the United States leads the worlds COVID-19 crisis. The Deputy Chief Health Officer shared these scenarios yesterday – but I just wanted to explain a bit more about why it’s so important. This modelling from the University of Melbourne and University of New England shows what’s likely to happen if we eased too quickly, with the numbers too high. It takes into account the data and current settings we have in place in Victoria – things like case numbers, face coverings, and restrictions. If we removed the Stay at Home restrictions when daily case numbers were averaging 25, theres more than a 60 per cent chance wed be back in lockdown by Christmas. When the stakes are so high, its a risk we just cant take. The modelling also shows that if we drive daily numbers down to five before taking the next step – that likelihood drops to just 3 per cent. I know everyone wants this over as soon as possible. So do I. But there’s one thing worse than having restrictions in place – and that’s coming out too fast. Having two weeks of fun. Case numbers explode. And then you’re straight back into lockdown. Yo-yoing in and out, with businesses opening and closing, is just about the worst scenario possible. All our sacrifices would count for nothing. And we simply cant allow that to happen. - @danielandrewsmp on Instagram

• 🌍 SAVE THE PLANET 🌎 Earth: home to over 7 billion people. Our amazing planet is a gift from God. We share it with millions of species of plants, trees, and animals—from the smallest bird to the biggest blue whale. And we rely on our planet for everything we need—like life-giving food, water, and oxygen. We’ve only got one Earth, and it’s up to us to keep it healthy for all creatures—now and in the future. The Bahá’í writings say, “The beings, whether great or small, are connected with one another by the perfect wisdom of God, and affect and influence one another.” Luckily, we can help the environment every day. We can recycle our trash and reduce pollution by walking and biking instead of driving. And there are so many things we can reuse to save resources—like water bottles and lunch containers. Kids and adults of many faiths are working together to protect the planet. Planting trees, cleaning up trash, and learning about nature are great ways to help. We can also think carefully about everything we buy. What does it cost the earth? Does it have a lot of packaging? Could we buy a used one? Do we really need it? We have the power to help keep the earth “green” for our human family. - - - - - - - - - #10yearschallenge #10yearchallenge #bestdestinationsworld #10years #earth #planet #planetearth #respect #respectplanet #respectworld #world #polo #like #comment #like4like #travelblogger #travelinfluencer #savetheearth #saveplanet #saveplanetearth #respectplanet #trip #fridaysforfuture #beautifulplace #travel #20092019 #2009 #2019 #share #challenge - @bestdestinationsworld on Instagram

Here is further data from my earlier post. This is from S.Korea where we have the most volume of data and the most accurate data. They have tested over 220,000 people. This is plotting the percent of total Covid-19 positive cases of each age group and comparing what each age groups portion is of the total population. It shows that although 20-29 year olds make up just 13% of the total population, they make up 30% of all the Covid-19 positive cases! Again, young people are the highest group carrying this contagion. Most in that group will have mild or no symptoms and if they continue to go about things like normal, they will drive the spread which will ultimately effect our elderly, our chronically ill and our healthcare workers who are on the frontlines. The disorienting orange skies that covered the Western US are a stark reminder of how dangerous the impacts of climate change already are. By raising temperatures, melting snow sooner, and drying soils and forests, climate change is fueling more frequent and more intense wildfires. ⠀ ⠀ In the short-term we must adopt management tactics, including prescribed burns (purposefully lit, low-intensity fires) while also planning for the long-term by drastically reducing global warming emissions. Crown shyness (also canopy disengagement, canopy shyness, or intercrown spacing) is a phenomenon observed in some tree species, in which the crowns of fully stocked trees do not touch each other, forming a canopy with channel-like gaps. The phenomenon is most prevalent among trees of the same species, but also occurs between trees of different species. There exist many hypotheses as to why crown shyness is an adaptive behavior, and research suggests that it might inhibit spread of leaf-eating insect larvae. __ ❤ Truly amazing ❤ ➡️ What do you think? 🌿🍃💚🌏 __ Credit: 📸 and information via Wikipedia.org __ One planet 🌍. If you are young and healthy and see this Covid-19 pandemic as a disease that primarily effects older populations and because of that you are mostly going about life as usual...You aren’t social distancing, you are still going to bars and friends houses for parties, you are still having gatherings, then you are a big part of the problem that will lead to thousands dying. See this clear data from testing done in Italy and S.Korea. In Italy they are only testing those with severe symptoms so the data is skewed and it looks like the elderly are primarily effected. But in S. Korea they are doing massive community testing which reveals where the mass of disease spread is coming from. It is coming from 20-29 year olds. Young healthy people are disproportionately effecting the spread of this as they have mild symptoms or are asymptomatic and mostly going about things like all is normal. We saw this in Chicago this past week where bars we packed with young people out celebrating St Pattys day during a pandemic. You will survive if you don’t go out for a few weeks! Yes it’s the elderly that will mostly die and suffer from this, but it’s the young people that are spreading it and infecting them. People between the ages of 20-49 are over 50% of the people carrying and spreading this disease. It’s time to take some responsibility and practice some social distancing. - @kkiran_00 on Instagram

Ive been getting a lot of questions regarding added volume here on the gram as well as in my coaching roster. It seems like this is a debate that cycles through once a year. More is not better. - Comparing Stronger Towns funding with EU Funding

A 2017 meta-analysis by Williams and colleagues examined all of the research comparing periodized and non-periodized training, finding that periodized training tends to produce larger strength gains (d = 0.43). After further adjusting for nested effects funnel plot asymmetry, the effect size decreased (d = 0.23 ± 0.05) but was still significant. In other words, periodized resistance training tends to cause larger strength gains than non-periodized training, but the overall effect is pretty small. Simple, right? Not necessarily. A drawback of periodization research is that periodized groups generally get to train at higher peak intensities than non-periodized groups. In other words, a non-periodized group may train with 75% loads for 9 weeks, while a periodized group may train with 60% loads for 3 weeks, 75% for 3 weeks, and 90% for three weeks. Overall, volume and average intensity are matched, but only the periodized group gets the opportunity to train with near-max loads before post-training testing. In other words, the studies may not be testing the effects of periodization itself, but rather the effects of peak training intensity. A pair of studies from Antretter and colleagues (google “Antretter Hatfield System and they should pop up) are the only studies comparing periodized versus non-periodized training with volume, average intensity, and peak intensity matched. They did so by having the non-periodized group train at multiple intensities within each training session. Those studies found that periodized training didn’t lead to larger strength gains than non-periodized training. In other words, periodization may not INDEPENDENTLY improve strength gains. However, periodizing training gives you more flexibility with training designs. In other words, periodizing your training is probably still a good idea, but you shouldn’t treat it like a magic bullet. This study was previously reviewed in more depth in a 2017 issue of MASS. As many as 215,000 more people than usual died in the U.S. during the first seven months of 2020, suggesting that the number of lives lost to the coronavirus is significantly higher than the official toll. And half the dead were people of color—Blacks, Hispanics, Native Americans and, to a marked degree unrecognized until now, Asian Americans. A new analysis of government data from The Marshall Project and the @apnews finds that deaths from all causes—COVID and otherwise—have gone up 9 percent among White Americans, but more than 30 percent in communities of color. And at the peak of the pandemic, people of color were suffering quadruple the rise in death toll that White Americans were. Read the analysis by Anna Flagg, @daminisharma23, Larry Fenn, and Mike Stobbe at: https://www.themarshallproject.org/2020/08/21/covid-19-s-toll-on-people-of-color-is-worse-than-we-knew Video journalist Marshall Ritzel from The Associated Press contributed reporting. - @marshallproj on Instagram

FAST FASHION AND ITS DEVASTATING IMPACTS There’s no doubt that fast fashion contributes to negative impacts on the environment, including climate change, animal suffering and water pollution. It’s the 2nd largest polluting industry in the world. 20,000 litres of water is used for just 1kg of cotton and it takes 2,700 litres of water to make one cotton shirt, which is enough water for one person to drink in 2 1/2 years. All our jeans, jumpers, jackets etc. are made out of cotton; do we really need them as much as someone needs the drinking water? No. It’s a ridiculous amount of water being wasted on fast fashion, when people are struggling to get just enough water for each day to cook, clean and drink. The Aral Sea lying between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan was once huge with 1000s of fish and the people there could fish for their meals; now there’s camel. The cotton farming has meant that the sea has shrunk so that it’s gone from being around half the size of England, to nearly 64,000 square kilometres of this water disappearing. This is shocking and ALL down to the cotton farm using the water from the river that was feeding the sea, in order to produce tonnes of cotton for our clothes. People have lost their lifestyle, their jobs of selling fish, and their beautiful waters. The dusty banks that are now where the sea once was are dangerous in strong winds as they get into people’s eyes causing harm. As well as the environment being badly affected, humans are also treated badly in the labour of making the clothes. Child labour is often the case for fast fashion, where they are treated awfully and paid very little. The stats are staggering for how fast fashion negatively affects our world; it’s more than we could ever imagine! So, next time you buy fast fashion clothes in a shopping spree please please reconsider what it means for the environment! Remember you have a full wardrobe already, or buy sustainable clothing, or secondhand clothes. Do your bit and try not to buy into fast fashion as much! 👚👖👗#fastfashionfacts #fastfashion #fastfashionsucks #clothes #cotton #pollution #industry #enviornment #protecttheplanet #sustainablefashion #help #fashioncrisis #stop - @currentl.yy on Instagram
