hi friends. jaymie here. like actually jme. i’ve been in robot mode for a few days and am finally slowing down a little. thanks for your texts offering many “i’m glad you are okay” messages. really, thank you. i’m glad i’m okay too. this story has been gaining some traction and i’d like to acknowledge a few things—being in a situation where you have to make the decisions is really intense. when we decided to turn back toward the car (which also meant toward the smoke/fire), i really hopped there would be a ranger or a sign or something sharing an evacuation plan or literally ANY information for getting to safety. we came across a few people on the trail and let them know what we knew—there’s a new fire. it’s close. we’re evacuating. but when we arrived to the trailhead/car there was nothing. then we passed others driving in all directions. at one point we slowed down to try and speak with a car and they sped on by. there was no information. no plan. just a bunch of people trying their best. regardless of the lack of information, we had a lot of resources available to us. we had a weeks worth of food, able bodies, healthy lungs and limbs. we also had three people carrying mini inReaches. this is a device you buy and then pay for monthly to use to communicate with people, check weather, and track your location. we were able to use this to help us plunge into the unknown events unfolding around us. but there wasn’t much information for our friends to find out either. the internet is much slower than real time. but we were able to confirm three things—1) this is a new fire. 2) the coordinates of the fire. 3) a friend got a hold of the ranger for us and relayed to us “the ranger said if you exit to reds meadow you should be safe.” to be continued... - @jmeshe on Instagram

Well thats looking like the start of night photography with my first aurora of the 2020/21 season. A very fast moving aurora which was hard to capture with any structure (8+ seconds was just a boring green blob/glow) so the best I could manage was F1.4 , ISO 640😒 and a 3 second exposure.
