Tribute to Saida Khanam, the first female photographer in Bangladesh. Saida Khanam gave birth to wonder in the world of photography in Bangladesh. He has been an established photographer since no one in the country has any idea about this issue. He took part in the International Exhibition held in Dhaka in 1956. He received the International Award in the same year. Saeed Khanam, the pioneer of Bangladeshi photography, is no more. He breathed his last on Tuesday morning (August 18) at his home in the capital, Banani. Saida Khanam was born on December 29, 1936. He was 72 years old at the time of his death. We are excited to announce the launch of the second phase of RESIST COVID/Take 6!, an artist-driven project launched by Carrie Mae Weems and a cultural consortium of DFW museums and organizations. Join us digitally on Saturday, October 3rd for a free-to-the-public conversation between the artist and former American editor-at-large of Vogue, André Leon Talley. The talk is hosted by The Dallas Morning News and will feature a Q&A moderated by the Dallas Contemporary’s Laurie Ann Farrell. To register, visit the link in our bio. Additionally, the second phase of #Take6DFW will include the distribution of reusable cloth face masks to DFW areas with high COVID-19 infection rates. In addition, promotional items—reusable bags, buttons, posters, flyers, and hand fans—will be given away at community centers, COVID-19 testing sites, food banks, and churches. Through these efforts, the campaign underscores the importance of social distancing, encourages public discussion, dispels the dangers of false cures, and thanks our front line and essential workers. Do you enjoy your own company? // A few weeks ago I had a really eye opening chat with my friend @navkiransokhi. She told me that she admires how much I love myself. My first reaction was shock. It almost sounded a bit vain. (#librathings I think). As we got deeper into the conversation, I realized that her definition of self love has a lot to do with loving your own company. When I think of it that way, yes, I really do love myself. I enjoy going on longs walks with me, sometimes I take myself (and a book) out for a glass of wine. Ive also been known to take off for a hotel staycation weekend by myself, or even go to a movie on my own. Its true, main apni favourite hoon. ❤️ For me, loving my own company wasnt really a choice or something I worked towards consciously. Its probably a by-product of growing up a little lonely, and sometimes friendless. I just learned early on that I had to entertain myself. Thats something that just flowed into my adult life, and now I often choose alone time consciously. I feel like time spent just with myself is healing for the soul, and so so important to working out problems and unpacking my feelings about all sorts of things. Plus Im hillarious, and I always laugh at my own jokes, its a win-win! Are there any things that you love to do alone? Do you enjoy your own company? Lets chat, meet you in the comments. She started making her own dressing because my fathers family had a history of diabetes so she determined she would eliminate all sugar from our diet — a bold move with four children in the house. 😋 That meant no more bottled dressings! Gina Verdibello (2i) grew up in Fort Lee NJ and then moved to Jersey City after college with her husband Robert, who grew up in Jersey City and attended Jersey City Public Schools. They have 3 children Amelia, Iris and Owen in which all attend Jersey City Public Schools. Gina has a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Rutgers University and holds a real estate license in NJ. She worked at Liberty Science Center, American Folk Art Museum and The Picower Foundation mainly in the fundraising and grants field. She’s also the Past President of the Jersey City Rotary Club and Girl Scout Troop Leader since 2013. Founder of advocacy group Parents Take Action which advocated for a better food provider and supported the teachers during their strike. She was recently awarded the 2020 Parent of the Year from Frank R. Conwell Middle School #4. Gina’s advocacy for education started when her children first attended school. The first board meeting she attended she advocated for sibling preference.Her main concerns were aging facilities, too much standardized testing, and the removal of outdated and unsafe trailers. In 2013 she decided to run for school board where she met her colleagues and current Trustees Lorenzo Richardson and Gerald Lyons.Gina was appointed to the Jersey City Board of Education in February 2019. She won a year term following her appointment and became the Vice President of the board. Since being on the board she was able to bring cursive writing back as a pilot program in the district. In addition, she leads the Parent and Community Committee. As a parent herself she knows a parents voice is necessary to make the district succeed. Since the pandemic she and her co chair Trustee Lekendrick Shaw have been holding these meetings twice a month to assist parents and to give them a place to express their concerns. Gina cares about the students, parents, teachers and community. She wants to see our students succeed and our schools be fully funded with everything they need to help our students. She has the expertise and knowledge to do the job well. I had no idea when I was writing Things Fall Apart whether it would even be accepted or published. All of this was new—there was nothing by which I could gauge how it was going to be received. But, of course, something doesnt continue to surprise you every day. After a while I began to understand why the book had resonance. I began to understand my history even better. It wasnt as if when I wrote it I was an expert in the history of the world. I was a very young man. I knew I had a story, but how it fit into the story of the world—I really had no sense of that. Its meaning for my Igbo people was clear to me, but I didnt know how other people elsewhere would respond to it. Did it have any meaning or resonance for them? I realized that it did when, to give you just one example, the whole class of a girls college in South Korea wrote to me, and each one expressed an opinion about the book. And then I learned something, which was that they had a history that was similar to the story of Things Fall Apart—the history of colonization. This I didnt know before. Their colonizer was Japan. So these people across the waters were able to relate to the story of dispossession in Africa. People from different parts of the world can respond to the same story, if it says something to them about their own history and their own experience. - @chinuaachebe on Instagram

LET THE ADVENTURE BEGIN!! No, this is not a total goodbye Los Angeles. We will see you often, but yes, our home base is making a move. I have called L.A. my home for an unbelievable 30 years now, but its time to head back to the other side of the country. My roots are calling. And most importantly, it will put us much closer to where Coley is going to school for the next four years. We can work from anywhere these days as we travel often to film, so with all things thought out and considered, we are making a move. To all of our friends in Los Angeles, we will see you often as we travel back to LA to work and visit. You are the reason I have loved living in LA and made it so easy to call home these last 30 years. You are a huge part of my heart and my memories of amazing times are all because of You!!! Whether you’re new here or have been around since the beginning, I wanted to take a few moments and share from the heart. For some change is scary, for me I see it as a new adventure, a challenge to overcome. I most often thrive when facing a challenge & I don’t see that changing anytime soon. With 49 years into this journey of life, I’ve experienced my fair share of mountain tops & valleys . Not only where my business is concerned but also personally. I see it as opportunity for my faith to grow even stronger. It’s those life experiences I feel, that have been preparing me for what’s next. Knowing also that God has been preparing me to share more from my heart & tidbits of “our story” to impact others. Behind the scenes I’ve been making shifts in the business since 2019. Knowing I wanted expand in areas I was passionate about and to better utilize my skills & talents. Certain decisions were made & plans put into place. Ready (so to speak) & preparing for “what’s next” I was excited for 2020, we hit the ground running. We started the year with a few amazing events, then the world as we knew it changed right before our eyes. I know I speak for many when I say, goodness what a whirlwind it has been. The uncertainty of what’s next can at times be weary & scary (even for those of us who typically embrace change). I’m looking forward with anticipation (not fear) of what the last months of 2020 hold. With all that being said, I wanted to let you know that I’m thankful for each and everyone of you who is here. For me I want this space to be a place of encouragement & inspiration for all areas of life. Not just for pretty pictures. What does that look like, you might ask? I’m taking it one day at a time, is there any other way in 2020?!? Saying Yes to what’s best & even more importantly saying No to what’s not. But by the time I met Stephanie, she had not spoken to him for a few years. This was clearly a source of pain for her. But Stephanie has that particular habit of people who have been hurt, where at the slightest hint of conflict, she’ll reflexively withdraw— so at least she can be hurt on her own terms. This is what happened with her son. I’d always wondered about Mitch. And during the course of our story, some determined readers discovered his Instagram account. I reached out to him and we had a long chat. As it so often goes, Mitch and Stephanie’s estrangement was based on a misunderstanding. There had been a particularly bad argument, and both were convinced that the other did not desire a relationship. Stephanie asked me to give Mitch her new cellphone number. And a couple days later they spent a wonderful afternoon together. It was the happiest I’ve seen Stephanie. ‘It hasn’t always been easy with my mother,’ Mitch explained. ‘But I know her story. In honour of #OrangeShirtDay, OC Distinguished Alumni Grace Greyeyes shares her story of survival at a residential school, a place she feels lucky to have survived. Since then, Greyeyes has been a passionate advocate for education all of her adult life, first in her nursing career which spanned more than 35 years and later as a volunteer, advisor, Elder, and Aboriginal knowledge keeper in the South Okanagan. She has been a member of the Aboriginal Education Advisory committee for School District #67 in Penticton for over a decade and began developing curriculum for SD#53 (Okanagan Similkameen) a few years ago. Greyeyes’ connection to Okanagan College dates back to the institution’s earliest years. She completed her Practical Nursing training at the College (then B.C. Vocational School) in 1968. She returned in the early 1990s to continue her education, pursuing Arts courses at the Penticton campus. Her passion for education has been recognized locally and at the national level. Morning! Vandaag is het voor mij een bijzondere dag. Sinds een paar dagen is mijn derde boek BERSAMA verkrijgbaar en vanmiddag is de officiele lancering. Anders dan anders deze keer omdat we online gaan lanceren met voor de genodigden een Bersama Box. Een feestje met hapjes en een drankje moeten we maar later een keer doen. Want je weet het, als Indische heb ik niet echt een reden nodig om een feestje te bouwen. Mensen vragen me wel eens, heb je dromen. En tuurlijk heb ik die. Maar drie keer een boek mogen uitbrengen ....ja, Im living my dreams. Een dankbaar mens ben ik. Op dagen zoals vandaag is er alleen maar meer reden om te beseffen waar ik als mens sta. Mijn kinderen, mijn familie in Nederland en Australie (en voor de duidelijkheid, voor mij is er geen schoondochters of schoonfamilie of in-laws, alleen gezin en familie, alles is eigen) zijn allemaal mensen die deel zijn van mijn leven en ook invloed hebben op mijn bestaan, gelukkig, en daar ben ik dankbaar voor. Maar de twee mensen die misschien het meest bepalend zijn geweest in mijn ontwikkeling als mens zijn er niet meer. Het verliezen van dierbaren (voor mij mijn moeder en man) brengt niet alleen verdriet met zich mee (want eerlijk is eerlijk, sommige dagen steekt het gemis me genadeloos) maar het brengt ook het besef dat zij een deel van mij zijn, en ik van hun, en dat dit altijd zo zal blijven. Dat ik ook door hun inbreng en invloed in staat ben om als mens te groeien. Dit voelt als een soort rijkdom. Guadulesa, a resident of Highland Park, has been a member of AAC for around 15 years. What inspires Guadulesas art? Working with acrylics and various mixed mediums on canvas, I create abstract or loosely figurative works of art, which display spontaneity, rhythm and texture. I usually work with a very wet palette, which allows the paint to blend and form organic shapes, alluding to the flow of natural energy and forms. For some years now, I have utilized music and even single sine tones as a medium, and when I am truly engaged with music, the painting process can feel like a dance. I have taken that process a step further by engaging in live performances, as a painter, with musicians on stage or in a studio. Riva Lehrer’s studio practice and writing come together in October when her memoir, “Golem Girl,” is published by Penguin Random House and an exhibition of her paintings opens at Zolla/Lieberman Gallery (which recently started representing her). Lehrer was introduced in 1997 to a collective of fellow disabled artists who were also activists. #forgive Das hier ist ein Ausschnitt aus dem @stern Nr. 29 vom Anfang Juli. Titelthema: #Verzeihen und genau darüber spreche unter anderem ich in diesem Artikel. Bevor die Anfrage für das Interview kam war ich mir ehrlicherweise gar nicht so richtig bewusst, wie wichtig es für meine eigene Recovery war, dass ich mir selber verzeihe. Ich habe den Aspekt eher unter „radikale Akzeptanz“ gepackt: „War eben so. Kann ich nicht mehr ändern. Wusste es halt nicht besser.“ Beim Gespräch wurde mir aber bewusst, dass sich mein Verhältnis zu mir selbst dank Therapie nach und nach verändert hat, und dass „der alten Dommi“ zu verzeihen ein entscheidender Schritt war, um aus der Selbst-Feindschaft eine Selbst-Freundschaft zu machen. Ich wollte mich nicht so behandeln, ich war krank und hätte Hilfe gebraucht - es war kein Vorsatz, kein freier Wille, sondern Hilflosigkeit und ein Versuch, zu überleben. Und es war bestimmt nicht die beste Option, aber damals die (scheinbar) einzige. Darüber hinaus hat das Thema mich aber auch noch nach dem Gespräch begleitet weil Verzeihen für mich nicht nur in den Großen, sondern auch in den kleinen Dingen liegt. Dass ich nicht ewig mit mir hadere, wenn etwas nicht so klappt wie ich es mir vorgenommen habe, mich nicht beschimpfe oder verurteile sondern Verständnis für mich habe, verstehe warum ich so gehandelt habe und mir dann selbst verzeihe. Und wichtig dabei ist mir: verzeihen heißt für mich nicht vergessen. Verzeihen heißt abschließen, wachsen, lernen, kindness und compassion zeigen - in meinem Fall mit mir. Ich habe also mal wieder am eigenen Leib erfahren, dass man Dinge manchmal aussprechen muss um sie zu verstehen. A year ago today, West Michigan lost a giant when our founder, Victoria Upton, passed away after a fearless battle with brain cancer. Victoria was a woman of abundant gifts; through Womens LifeStyle, she elevated the voices of women and enhanced our community and our experiences within it. Upon her death, hundreds came forward to share how Victoria changed their lives through interactions great and small. She has received several awards posthumously, including the YWCA 2018 Tribute Award and the William Glenn Trailblazer Award. Вот вы можете сходу написать, какая поддержка и зачем вам нужна? ⠀ Помню, как пришла в личную терапию, и меня каждый раз ставил в тупик вопрос терапевта: Как я могу вам помочь? Блин! Не знаю как! Только спустя год поняла, что именно мне помогает. Это было такое сильное и неожиданное осознание, что как сейчас помню угол дома, газон и дерево, рядом с которыми меня осенило. ⠀ Это все к чему? К тому, что для некоторых не так-то просто понять, что их поддерживает, что придаёт решимости и веры в себя. ⠀ Вот и тут. Сначала я села писать текст про поддержку вообще. И обнаружила, что написала пошаговую помощь себе для похода к врачам. ⠀ Тогда сконцентрировались на профессиональной сфере и прописала необходимую мне поддержку в рождении курса лекций. ⠀ И наконец, с третьего захода смогла приземлиться на совсем уж конкретную крышу - что поддерживает меня в инстаграм? ⠀ Итак, проблема 👇🏼 Хочу писать про искусство и арт-терапию, но когда сравниваю себя с матёрыми искусствоведами и арт-блогами, то осознаю собственное несовершенство и неправильность. Все. Стоп-кран. Не могу собраться в кучу и рассказать интересное про Шоколадницу или Ива Кляйна и его международный синий. ⠀ Проблема №2: Три мои интереса - искусство, арт-терапия и педагогика/отношения - сплетены в жизни в единую ткань. Но когда дело доходит до блога или конкретного текста - все рушится. Как проявить это взаимопроникновение тем в блоге - не понимаю. ⠀ Казалось бы, почему не писать про искусство для подростков с практическими заданиями для них же? Или сделать блог для младших школьников? Но нет, это не подходит, здесь я хочу работать со взрослыми людьми.
