🦓 One of the most iconic animals is the striped zebra, however one young foal in Kenyas Maasai Mara national reserve wanted to be a little different and have polka-dot. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🦓 This shows the diversity of nature, however a resent assessment by Science Advances suggested that the entire eco-system is under threat ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🦓 Much of western Africa, Ethiopia, and parts of Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo are the hardest hit regions, standing to lose more than 40% of their richness of plants. Species at risk include trees, shrubs, herbs and woody vines. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🦓Threats include deforestation, population growth and climate change, the scientists said. Biodiversity provides countless benefits to humans and losing diversity jeopardises our future, said lead researcher Dr Thomas Couvreur of the French National Institute for Sustainable Development. June 25-26, 1876. Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer and over 268 men of the 7th US Cavalry Regiment were slaughtered in the Battle of Little Bighorn by Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho tribes near Little Bighorn River, Montana. The Natives hoped by winning the battle Americans would leave native land for good. Instead the death of Custer as well as the 7th made the American public outraged, and the vengeful US military brought the Sioux tribe to their knees by 1877. All Sioux land had been annexed by the US in the Agreement of 1877, and placed Native Americans in reservations ending the Great Sioux War of 1876. Debt-ridden farmers from Indias southernmost state of Tamil Nadu stage a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar area by holding a mouse in their mouths as food options if the government fails to declare drought relief packages and waive farm loans in New Delhi on March 2017 The Tamil Nadu government has demanded Rs 40,000 crore from the Centre for the drought-hit farmers. However, according to reports, the Centre has allocated just Rs 2,000 crore so far. Suicide by poor farmers is a major political issue in India where over 10,000 of them ended their lives in 2019. However, the government told Parliament that it has no data on farmers suicide as many states do not maintain such account. The Indian Parliament recently passed two farm bills aimed at improving the condition of farmers. Himba woman, with Nambian tribal hair @watuwoye For a Himba woman, her hair is her power. These semi-nomadic people live in one of the most extreme environments on earth, the deserts that border Namibia with Angola. As water is scarce they use a mixture of pastes on both their bodies and hair. These pastes blend the aromatic resin of the omazumba shrub with animal fat and ground red pigmented stone. This ‘otjize’ paste gives the women’s skin and hair a distinctive red glow which symbolizes both blood, the essence of life, and the earth’s rich red colour. Hairstyles play a significant role within the Himba community and reflect marital status, age, wealth, and rank within the group. Hair braiding is a communal activity with the range of styles differing from tribe to tribe. Close relatives spend hours creating elaborate and socially symbolic hairstyles. The braids they create are often lengthened by including bits of woven hay, goat hair and artificial hair extensions. Hair is also seen as a symbol of fertility amongst the Himba community where thick braids and lustrous hair indicates a women’s ability to bear healthy children. Women who have been married for about a year, or have had a child, wear an ornate headpiece called the Erembe, sculpted from sheep or goatskin, with many streams of braided hair, coloured and shaped with ‘otjize’ paste. BATALLA DE LOS CAMPOS CATALÁUNICOS La batalla, ocurrida en 451, no fue más que una de las consecuencias de la inestabilidad que sufría la provincia de la Galia en en todo el siglo V. Entre las invasiones germanas que asomaban todo el imperio, las bagaudas (esclavos huidos, campesinos empobrecidos, desertores…) que controlaban y saqueaban zonas del norte de Hispania y buena parte de la Galia, las continuas guerras civiles entre romanos que sacaban sus efectivos de provincias como ésta, esquilmándolas, la Galia era un territorio profundamente inestable. Aecio, general romano de origen godo, logró el poder el Galia, ejerciendo de magister militum de dicha provincia, y siendo protegido continuamente con su famosa guardia huna. Sin embargo, el pueblo huno, bajo el mando de Atila, que prohibió a su pueblo servir de mercenario para Roma, atacó la inestable provincia gala con la supuesta razón de atacar a los visigodos asentados en la Galia, también enemigos de los romanos. Sin embargo, Aecio reconoció el peligro antes de que Atila lo sorprendiera y firmó un foedus con los visigodos, que lucharían para él a cambio del territorio que ocupaban. Así, los romanos y los godos orientales sumaban unos 20.000 o poco más. Por su parte, los hunos y la alianza de gépidos, burgundios, ostrogodos, vándalos y demás pueblos sumaban unos 25.000 hombres. Cerca de Orleans, el ejército romano-germano alcanzó al de Atila, quien no se esperaba la alianza de sus enemigos y ya no estaba tan seguro de poder ganar la batalla en esas condiciones. Aecio situó a los romanos en el ala izquierda, a los alanos que se le unieron poco antes de la batalla en el centro y a los visigodos en el ala derecha. Atila formó a sus hunos frente a los alanos, los ostrogodos frente a los visigodos y los demás pueblos frente a los romanos. Atila intentó hacer huir a los alanos, que dejarían dividido el ejército de Aecio, pero los hunos no lograron su propósito, y pese a la muerte del rey visigodo Teodorico, tampoco los visigodos cedieron. Dia 1 do #inditober (organizado e pensado por @pedejatoba) - Personagem de Série Kakwet - Anne With An E Kakwet é uma garota indígena de 12 anos, da etnia Mikmaq, povo originárip de Mikmaki (parte do hoje chamado Canadá), sendo interpretada por Kiawenti:io Tarbell, multiartista indígena da etnia Mohawk. No fim da série, o povo Mikmaq começa a sofrer ataques dos missionários contra suas crianças, sua cultura, sua religião, seu idioma e seu território. No meio disso, Kakwet, que tinha sido levada, tenta voltar para seu povo, mas o destino dela fica em aberto. O castor, sendo um animal muito presente nas histórias e na cosmovisão Mikmaq, foi um animal que eu escolhi, após estudar um pouco sobre e ler de próprias produções Mikmaq, pra dar um final de esperança pra ela: O castor, enviado pelo Deus Glooscap, destruiria, com sua cauda, a escola dos missionários, resgataria Kakwet e as outras crianças, as guiaria de volta a seu povo e, então, levaria todos a um novo lugar seguro, protegido por Glooscap.
