“Music is related to science. The tools underlying making music is just math. It’s like an incredible science experiment on vibration, for example on the clarinet–the reed perfectly and exactly vibrates to make that nice tone–a tone that people practice for years to create. To me, it’s just as scientific as biology or chemistry.”⠀ ⠀ Meet Wayne Grim, the Exploratorium’s sound artist. His appetite for music came from his family. Growing up, Wayne’s father’s band left instruments around the house, and he would grab the keyboard, bass, and guitar to get his hands on any instrument he could. ⠀ ⠀ Wayne is the creative behind fascinating projects at the Exploratorium, such as Music from the Periodic Table, a weekly music series featuring compositions by Wayne, each inspired by every element found on the periodic table. The project and the music of the table is meant to be generative–each sound may be slightly different, but remains connected. He draws his inspiration for his original compositions by studying how each element was discovered and its properties. Is it a metal or a gas? How does it combine with other elements? How much is present in the human body? How do we use it today? How many electrons? Then, he heads to the soundboard and mixes the music. ⠀ ⠀ Wayne stays inspired as we shelter at home by learning. He keeps himself occupied by studying Japanese and memorizing the writing system. He also stays engaged with the world through apps, books, movies, and online videos. ⠀ ⠀ “I do miss my co-workers, and it’s hard not being able to travel, but I do find it easier sometimes to work on creative projects professionally and personally because there aren’t as many distractions. Mentre io mi cimento a fare catene stellari, sperimento verniciature holografiche, spendo patrimoni nella ricerca intorno a un polietilmetacrilato in cui l’effetto della mischia dei colori sia simile a quello di un albeggio uggioso e settembrino osservato dalla cima del monte fogliano ( l’interazione di più colori in sospensione nelle materie plastiche è argomento ricco e complesso) Agostino si trova a dover rendere tutto questo non solo “fattibile”, ma riproducibile. Premesso che, come diceva lo scultore Costantin Brancusi “ la semplicità è complessità risolta” capita che quanto più l’effetto finale di un pezzo sia minimale, tanto più disperatissima sia stata la ricerca che lo ha preceduto. E per complessità non intendo soltanto quella dei procedimenti, che sarebbe bello e interessante affrontare borsa per borsa 👁, ma spesso la parte più difficile è proprio quella di comunicare una visione astratta, portare un’ idea sul piano di lavoro e condividerla in modo che tutti possano vederla come appare nella mia immaginazione. Quello che vedete nella foto è il banco di Agostino. È sempre molto trafficato, fra i pezzi di produzione che devono partire e quelli che aspettano che si apra un varco spazio temporale nelle sue giornate per essere studiati e completati. Su quel tavolo c’è anche uno spazio “confessionale” quasi sempre occupato da qualcuno che viene anche solo a parlare un po’. Da lì Agostino, mentre lavora, ascolta. Ascolta le miei idee, ascolta i fornitori e i loro problemi, ascolta i corrieri, ascolta Davide l’assicuratore che ci porta tutti i giorni la merenda, il commercialista Walter che ci ha presi a cuore, ascolta mia madre e le sue articolazioni, ascolta i nostri operosi artigiani, le oramai innumerevoli sarte che lo chiamano a tutte le ore! I’m halfway through! I am now at 20 weeks. I just thought I would say hi, show my face and do a little life update. For those who missed the earlier announcement, I’m having a baby! Being pregnant in a pandemic has certainly been an experience, it’s such a shame that my husband can’t come with me to scans and I have no idea what the situation will be in January when I’m due, but on the other hand the slow place of lockdown life was perfect for the first trimester. I’m currently feeling much better in the second trimester and trying to do as much work as possible before the baby comes. I’m currently working on two books - I am writing and illustrating a new book, and illustrating a children’s book written by somebody else. I am certainly going to have a busy few months, but I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be a lot easier to work now than after the baby comes! #20weeks #duein2021 - @emmablockillustration on Instagram

This feminist horror centres around directionless Leanne, her older sister and ever-nurturer Clare, and 16 year old Erin, who is desperate to be older. As they battle grief, financial uncertainty, and the sudden presence of an older man, these sisters will be disturbed further when strange things start to happen. Doors blow open and closed, lights flicker on and off, and objects, in particular jars of honey, start to appear in places where nobody could have left them. Sicuramente il babbo che profumava di biscotti quando la sera rientrava a casa. In Antonio Mattei c’è tantissimo dell’educazione che abbiamo ricevuto, dal senso di sicurezza dell’ambiente familiare al rigore e alla disciplina. I racconti del babbo riferiti all’azienda erano pieni di amore e passione; il Nonno Ernesto non lo abbiamo mai conosciuto ma il babbo lo ha reso vivo, ogni giorno ci raccontava un aneddoto su di lui e su quello che accadeva in laboratorio come una favola infinita ! Il concetto fondamentale del “prendersi cura” fa parte di quel bagaglio che ci è stato trasmesso dai nostri genitori, è proprio una modalità di “stare nelle cose” con profondità, che appartiene a tutti e quattro noi fratelli. 🔹Raccontaci qualcosa di te: Sono sempre stata “quella diversa”, forse per i miei capelli rossi e perché ero la mezzana delle femmine, vivevo in una sorta di terra di mezzo e ho sempre lottato per fare emergere la mia identità, appassionata e testarda. Credo che il mio carattere estroverso e socievole sia la mia caratteristica principale, ciò che mi ha portato naturalmente ad instaurare una rete di contatti solida e vera. All I can say about this photo is that God has brought so many amazing moments to into my life lately, and this one is very high on the list!! Oh who am I kidding? I have lots more to say! 😉😂 I first remember reading a book by @sally.clarkson when I was 18 or 19 years old and babysitting for someone. It struck a chord with me and I tucked the ideas away for later when I had kids of my own. That day came when my oldest was 3 or 4 years old and I was really contemplating the kind of learning environment I wanted to create for him and his baby brother. I read Sally and Clay’s book, “Educating the Whole Hearted Child” and it filled me with excitement about what our home school could be like. It set me on a path that I’m more grateful for all the time. Some years later I had a little guy who challenged me as a parent in ways none of my other kids had. I wanted to understand him, love him, help him, but sometimes I didn’t know how. Sally and her son Nathan’s book, “Different” came to the rescue this time. It was the very thing my heart needed to feel peace and to help me understand and love my boy better. To say Sally Clarkson has been an influence in my life is not an exaggeration. She’s encouraged, inspired and comforted me. I’m truly grateful for her. And I can’t even tell you what a delight it was to stand next to her, me holding my first book and her holding her 23rd! ( right Sally?) How is this even real? Oh yes, because of God. That’s how. ❤️ Thank you for your voice in my life, Sally. 🥳July 7th is a special day in the Mills household because its been 1 year since @thebeardrobot quit his job to join the business! 🥳(@flavor_graphics!) . It definitely wasn’t always easy (in fact, right now things are a little tough😬!) but it has 👉🏻A L W A Y S 👈🏻been worth it. Joseph’s health is better. I’m not as overwhelmed because he can help me. He’s brought new service offerings to our clients. And most importantly, we get to spend more time together!!!!👫 . Because of the nature of his last 3 jobs, we could NEVER take vacations, spend weekends together, and certainly never do anything during the day. Now we can! . Pic 1: our first project we did together: we collaborated on a color-in mural for a conference. Pic 2: I had a work trip back home in Colorado and Joseph came, too! He helped my parents out with some home projects while we visited. Pic 3: we camped out at a @chickfila opening and Joseph won 52 free #1 meals! Pic 4: We took a real vacation and went to the beach. Pic 5: we got ice cream at 3pm. Pic 6: we spent a Saturday kayaking with friends. Before, NONE of these things were possible because of his job. Life is so much more worth living now because we can work together! 🎉Happy 1-year-Quitaversary to Joseph!!! 🎉🥰 I’m proud of you and thankful that God had provided for us in this last year. I love photographing my creative friends. For nearly 4 years, @workerbeesupply has connected me with illustrators whose work I’d admired for years and new artists I stumbled upon via the web or IRL. • We’ve released 18 prints (which seems crazy) and sent them all over the world. But what has been truly magical is seeing where our artists have gone since working with them. • @benjohnstondesign has painted murals all over Toronto. @robertjohnpaterson has traveled around the globe doing artist residencies. • @jeanniephan shares plant care tips on her wildly popular @studioplants and @lucasyoung has worked with the @torontofc. • @smalilams illustrates for @nytimes and @toyhandscreate has collaborated with @collectivebrew. We are thrilled and inspired to have been awarded £3.3m in funding from the European Regional Development Fund. From its outset as an artist-led endeavour, Islington Mill has been looking out beyond its walls and city towards the wider world. Over our twenty years, we have invited creative people to Salford from across Europe and the world to share their stories and knowledge, and to make new work in our city. This grant represents the final part of European funding support to Britain from the EU. We will use this funding to secure long-term space and support for the arts and local communities and to make strong and long lasting ties with our European neighbours, which we believe is crucial at this moment in time. Alongside this, the funding enables us to offer vital and timely support to Salford and Manchester based creative people wishing to develop their careers and businesses. We hope that this will provide many creative businesses with a lifeline in these tough times. Since the beginning, Islington Mill has been resolutely artist-owned and artist-led. For us ‘artist-led’ means artists lending their creativity to the leadership of an organisation, and not giving up their creativity in service to it, which is too often the way. During our time, we have seen many of our peer-organisations come and go, due to a lack of support and individual exhaustion and burn-out. While it has been a long and arduous journey to raise these essential funds, we believe that these renovations mean that Islington Mill can now create a future that is unencumbered by the worries that come with occupying old and unstable buildings. It means that this part of Salford will remain affordable or free for creative and community use for the long-term future, instead of unaffordable private apartments which have been the fate of many other areas in Greater Manchester that claim to have been ‘regenerated’. Все. Стоп-кран. Не могу собраться в кучу и рассказать интересное про Шоколадницу или Ива Кляйна и его международный синий. ⠀ Проблема №2: Три мои интереса - искусство, арт-терапия и педагогика/отношения - сплетены в жизни в единую ткань. Но когда дело доходит до блога или конкретного текста - все рушится. Как проявить это взаимопроникновение тем в блоге - не понимаю. ⠀ Казалось бы, почему не писать про искусство для подростков с практическими заданиями для них же? Или сделать блог для младших школьников? Но нет, это не подходит, здесь я хочу работать со взрослыми людьми. We talk about social conditioning, same as everydaylife experiences in the feminine body, women in different cultures along the human history, same as myths and tales and matriarchal philosophies. Each Woman brings in her knowledge, her questions, her skills, same as her doubts, resistances and learnings. I deeply enjoy to talk about moon mythologies, my academic studies about it put into a practical approach so we can live with it, learn from it on a daily basis. Creating an environment is her focus, and all of various elements that make up the extent of her scope of work often come together in unison whether it is an independent piece or blending together multiple components. Allowing the viewer to participate in various ways such as helping on community projects through, donating old materials to be up-cycled, or helping make strand, and different points of access to watch and learn through video and her teaching practice is what makes connecting with Janell unique. Her intention is to allow the viewer or participant to align with their own personal ideas of art, expression and sustainability feeling grounded and inspired to constantly improve in what it is they do to contribute to arts, culture and a environment that works for everyone. Former NASA astronaut Frank Culbertson has the distinction of being the only American not on the planet when the 9/11 attacks occurred. . Culbertson was about 250 miles (400 km) above Earth — inside the still-under-construction International Space Station with two Russian cosmonauts — when he saw the huge column of smoke streaming from Lower Manhattan where the Twin Towers fell. Culbertson captured video and photos of the 9/11 site from space for NASA, while satellites also tracked the attack site from orbit. . The following day, he posted a public letter that captured his initial thoughts of the events as they unfolded. The world changed today. What I say or do is very minor compared to the significance of what happened to our country today when it was attacked. . This week has been a funny one but in a good way. I accidentally run out of clay and I’m waiting for a big delivery before the A/W ordering kicks in. I’ve been trying to write a new project statement, get the English half of the brain going... I’ve tried in Slovak - that’s where I’m from if you don’t know, and it was equally difficult. I feel like my English is not quite up to the job and because I don’t get to speak enough Slovak, I’m loosing words. It’s very strange! I read a lot in Slovak, watch films, chat to family but somehow not being surrounded by it in everyday life makes my vocabulary disappear. Dreaming bilingual is very bizarre too, especially when your mum who doesn’t speak a word of English is fluent in my dream and sounds like a BBC newsreader. Anyhow where was l? Oh yeah, statement... I could get it edited but than it wouldn’t sound like me. This was a wall in my studio. I don’t have it like this all the time, only when working on a new clay stuff. Mi sposterò temporaneamente in Sardegna dove monterò un piccolo laboratorio mobile, che mi permetta di lavorare, anche se con meno possibilità, ma comunque di lavorare e di buttare giù in tempo reale le idee e le ispirazioni che mi arriveranno grazie al contatto con la mia terra. Photos Matt took of me about twelve years ago, I think. Wait, no, longer. 2006. 2007, at the latest. But I’m pretty sure it was 2006. . Haha we were such sweet little babies, running around Portland, making out, absorbing every moment together before he’d get back on that plane and return to England. Every visit was probably the last, we thought, because we knew long distance relationships can only survive for so long. . We told each other to go ahead and pursue anyone else if somebody pretty came along who lived in our respective zip codes. Or, y’know, someone who just lived on the same CONTINENT. Don’t pass up someone you could date in real life for a penpal relationship with an expiration date. But... well. You know how that ended up. Together for 15 years, married for 12. . This is me doing my day job, checking proofs for a lovely picture book. The only difference is this time, it’s MY BOOK that I’m checking! Greta and the Giants is printing here in the UK by the lovely people Severn in Gloucester. Two cool facts: 1) in 20+ years of working in publishing I have never seen a picture book on press. Most books are printed thousands of miles away, and then shipped or air freighted to the UK. We’ve reduced our carbon footprint by printing locally 💚🌳🌎 2) Severn is one of only 10 printers to hold the EMAS accreditation (which means they are super Eco). В магазине на сайте появился раздел “Sample&Second Sale”, в котором вы найдете единичные экземпляры, образцы, штуки с незначительными дефектами и всё, что залежалось, с большими скидками. И меня тут разрывает от противоречия, может ли качество быть вторым? Второе качество для меня—очень сложная категория, к которой, честно признаюсь, я пока не сформулировала окончательного отношения. Это не столько мелкий брак (откровенного брака вы там не найдёте), а качество эстетическое. Наверное треть всего, что я делаю, мне хочется пустить под бульдозер—и с доброй половиной из этой трети я так и поступаю. Но во всех остальных вещах всё-таки остается какая-то ценность, и я верю, что им можно дать шанс, а не отправлять на свалку. Это компромисс, которые я не люблю, но пока не нашла способ как его внутри себя разрешить. Акция будет длиться два дня или до последнего предмета. Idag är det fyra år sedan vi flyttade hit och alltså fyra år sedan jag sa hej då till anställning, fast lön och semester men hej till frihet, egna framgångar och framförallt - möjligheten att kunna styra min tid och mitt arbetsliv mot det JAG vill. Det är ingen dans på rosor att vara egenföretagare men det är också ganska oslagbart att fira de framgångar en själv kämpat och slitit för. Det tar tid att bygga upp företag och det är en ständig process med framtidstänk och reflektioner, men alltså jag älskar det. This is how happy my first day back behind the camera made me! . . Working in support of the amazing creative soul @godessajewellery through my camera felt liberating. . . Time in lockdown for me has been a volcanic creative revolution as I had time to work on ideas from within the have needed to come out for a long time. But not being in service to others in the way that @3rdlens.studio allows me to do has been a huge missing piece to the puzzle. Sometimes it is only when we lose something we realise how precious it really is. . . Being back behind the camera made me realise how much internal evolution there has been through this time of isolation. I have been tentative to move out in to the world as being a creative introvert I enjoyed the quiet world we had for a while and the permission to stay home, enjoy my aloneness and create in new ways. But my shoot on Wednesday really cemented the importance of this work for those I can assist and also for the satisfaction I receive through celebrating and cheering along a fellow creative entrepreneur. My success really is tied up with yours and feeling that unity in a profound way occurred in this shoot back at work this week. I am going to be adjusting my offerings to include new ways to work with me so watch this space for updates that will come soon. . . Mountain and Wilderness Writing Literary Arts Overview Mountain and Wilderness Writing (MWW) is a three-week residency for nine writers working in any genre (fiction, nonfiction, journalism, or poetry), on mountain narratives, environmental journalism, stories of wilderness adventure, or projects with an environmental theme. The interior journey of exploration and the psychology of extreme endeavours are as much a focus as the physical accomplishments involved, and there is a strong emphasis on literary quality. Writers will enjoy dedicated, uninterrupted writing time in a spectacular mountain setting, and the communality of a small group of peers from around the world under the guidance of three experienced editors. This program overlaps with the Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival, and guest artists of the MWW program (visiting authors, editors, or agents) offer further enrichment and inspiration. Many projects developed in the MWW program have gone on to publication, and several books by alumni have won international awards. What does the program offer? Participants will work in the peace and isolation of Banff Centre’s Leighton Artists Studios and consult on an individual basis with three faculty editors: Marni Jackson, an award-winning journalist, author, and editor; Harley Rustad, an editor at The Walrus magazine and fellow of the Royal Geographical Society; and Tony Whittome, for many years an Editorial Director of Random House U.K. Prior to the start of the residency, writers will submit 5,000 to 10,000 words from their projects. Intensive editing, both conceptual and detailed, of these or other passages forms the foundation of the program, although longer texts can be discussed. During the program, participants will take part in twice-weekly, two-hour workshops under the guidance of the editors, where participants will critique and support each other’s work with detailed attention to texts of 20 pages or less per workshop. Writers will also have access to the Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival, which attracts accomplished filmmakers and authors from around the world. Who should apply? Så blev det pludselig til et lille ansigt. 🙂 Hanne Hastrup satte de første streger til CIRKELINE i en kedelig tegnetime, da hun var 17 år. I dag fylder tegneren og forfatteren 80 år og er først for nylig blevet klar over, hvor betydningsfuld og tidløs en figur hun har skabt. ”Cirkeline udstråler noget retfærdighed, og hun siger, vi skal være gode ved hinanden og ved naturen.
