โก๏ธH A N DโขN U M B N E S Sโก๏ธ Do you find your hand frequently falling asleep, feeling numb, like pins & needles, or a random tingling? โข For many people this is a very common occurrence which comes every once in a while, but doesnโt necessarily mean there is something โwrongโ. โข For others, this issue persists and effects them every time they move their arm or neck a certain way and even worse - may be felt constantly. โข Personally, even I frequently feel numbness in my hands when Iโm laying awkwardly, on my phone scrolling IG for hours on end, and when I go for long bike rides through the city. โข The following exercises explain some things you can do if youโre frequently effected by hand numbness. โข What is important to note though, is that while many times our hand falling asleep may be nothing, it can also be a sign of another issue like: 1๏ธโฃCervical Disc Herniations 2๏ธโฃCervical Spine Stenosis 3๏ธโฃThoracic Outlet Syndrome 4๏ธโฃPeripheral Neuropathy 5๏ธโฃCarpal Tunnel Syndrome โข While these exercises can still be helpful for each of these diagnoses, it is still best to always be assessed by a physical therapist (like myself) to find the real source of your symptoms and create the best plan of care. Who focuses a ton on their glutes ๐ but much less on their hip flexors? ๐Hip flexors aka the psoas muscle, have often been demonized in rehab because of its attachment to the lumbar spine. It is the blame to chronic low back pain and many other conditions as its perceived that the psoas muscle pulls the spine into further anterior pelvic tilt. Do you know where the blame SHOULD be? ๐คท Blame the person, their training habits, lack of movement, or sometimes overstretching the hip flexors. The Hip flexors actually play an important role in giving the spine rigidity and stability. ๐ Overstretching the hip flexors actually may destabilize the spine.. In my experience as a PT, Id often see a lot of yogis in my clinic due to them overstretching and less dedication to strengthening the muscle.
