::TEST:: Swipe for vid @iamelena’s solo on the new @christianscottofficial official album. I used transcribing style number 3( it was 1am when I started and I couldn’t play. So I did it by ear, then into the notation software, and didn’t start playing it on the horn until 2 hours ago). Obviously it’s better to use style number one, by ear, directly onto your instrument. Also, I gave up on some of that flute crap towards the end. My math brain hurt and those sweep arpeggios go h.a.m.f. Should I become an internet transcriber? - I took a very slight gamble on a little-traveled auction site and bought these speakers with zero info on them. Theres no branding on them at all. Could they possibly be homemade? Theyre as heavy as boat anchors, and theres nothing on the back except two binding post connections.

Today I want to talk about the history of the balafon and the marimba. The balafon is a struck idiophone from west africa, traditionally played from Guinea to Mali, and it dates at least to the 12th century.(1) Meanwhile the marimba is an instrument that developed in the areas of the Guatemala-Mexico (Chiapas) border, this instrument was a result of the african slaves brought to the american continent (the americas). The word marimba comes from the Bantu languages, spoken in south and central Africa, this is the main reason why some people believe that that the marimba didnt developed from the balafon but a close cousin of this instrument, since the balafon is played mainly in west africa, although this cant be known for sure. (2) Later on the marimba evolved into the concert marimba, becoming worldwide famous and being very used nowadays in classical, jazz and popular music.
