Today @canoncollectiveofficial @canonaustralia have announced changes to their Canon Collective Facebook Group, including appointing @stephenfinkel & I as CC Community Managers. I attended my first Canon Collective event in 2014 and I like many others in the Collective Community was disappointed when I heard about the end of the Canon Collective as we know it. Not only were the CC Experience Managers mentors and instrumental in my photography progression and development over the past six years, but I also count some of them as good friends. However, particularly in the current environment, everything is changing but one thing that I feel very strongly about is the Canon Collective Community as a group. To be asked to be involved in the Facebook page as an admin and see that the group will continue I consider as both an honour and a privilege. At the end of the day, this group is about passionate photographers coming together as a community with a common interest. We can continue to share ideas, feedback and even create challenges and a network where we can all contribute, inspired by the same love of photography and support each other as creatives. I am thankful that Canon recognise the importance of this as it is what I have felt has set Canon apart from other brands, their connection with their users. This is the wreck of the SS America. It was built in 1940 for the United States lines. She’s carried many different names over her 54 year life, including SS America, USS West Point, the SS Australis, the SS Italis, etc. In may of 1941 she was called for service by the U.S. Navy, where she served for five years until 1946. From 1946 - 1980 she successfully served once again as a passenger vessel, although she was shuffled between several owners, and went through several name changes. In the 1980’s she was sold to yet another owner, who had the intentions of refitting the vessel into a prison ship. When those plans fell through she was sold to another owner who planned to make the SS America into a five star hotel ship, but unfortunately those plans fell through as well. On new years eve of 1993 the SS America was towed from Greece. At some point through the Atlantic crossing the tow lines snapped, and all attempts to reattach the SS America to the tow ships failed. It was on January 18th that the America Star (SS America), ran aground at its final resting place off the west coast of Fuerteventura, in the Canary Islands. Giannis D Shipwreck of 1983 In 1983 the Giannis D, a Grecian Bulk Carrier, was on course for open water in the Red Sea, when the Captain turned over the helm to one of his junior officers and retired to his cabin to rest. Soon afterwards he was rudely awakened by the sound of his ship running aground.
