Major ABHIJAI has immortalized himself on this day in a helicopter crash at Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh in 2014. His Story : During 2104, Maj Abhijai Thapa was serving with 39 (Independent) Recce and Observations Flight under the Army base in Bareilly. On 01 Oct 2014, Maj Abhijai Thapa was tasked for a recce mission near Indo-China border in Munsiyari, Pithoragarh. Maj Abhijai then successfully diverted the aircraft to save the lives of over 11000 residents of Bhartol village and his other brethren in uniform.The aircraft then crashed away from the populated area and Major and his crew members could not survive the crash and were martyred. He quickly assessed the situation and came to the conclusion that measures needed to be taken to minimize the casualties on the ground. SFC Joseph Celestine by Susan Ellen. In 2011 The Columbus Museum contracted Savannah-based photographer Ellen Susan to take likenesses of several soldiers from nearby Fort Benning, using nineteenth-century techniques. The artist had previously created similar portraits of service members from Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield in southeastern Georgia. About this haunting overarching group of images, the artist explained: I felt that the 150-year old collodion process could be a meaningful way to photograph contemporary soldiers, to provide a counterpoint to the anonymous representations of soldiers seen in newspapers and on television. The necessarily long exposures of this slow process often result in an intensity of gaze that asks the viewer to look longer, and the grainless, highly detailed surface brings out minute details of each individual. I have had the honor to work with hundreds of Military Working Dog Handlers in my career preparing them and their partners to deploy to places like Iraq and Afghanistan. Out of all of those that I have worked with, Chris stood out to me as leader. I had the priveliage to work with Chris one on one in Yuma, Arizona preparing for what would ultimately be his last deployment to Afghanistan. Chris stayed after class with me to put in the extra work with his Military Working Dog, MWD Dino, because he was a professional and knew he was responsible for saving the lives young U.S. Marines. Rushing to the aid of a fallen Marine, Chris was killed in action on this date in 2011. Corporal Ciara M. Durkin - Remembering an American Hero Army Corporal Ciara M. Durkin, 30, of Quincy, Mass.; was Killed In Action on this day in 2007 at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan. Ciara was assigned to the 726th Finance Battalion, Massachusetts Army National Guard, West Newton, Mass. Durkin was a 1996 graduate of Fontbonne Academy in Milton and joined the Army National Guard in October 2005. Ciara was the type of person who would go out of her way to help someone in need. In April of 2004, they credited Ciara with helping save the life of a contractor who fell 26 feet after slipping off a ladder in the building that she had worked. She was passionate about her job, which included making sure the soldiers finances were in order and that their families were getting benefits. She wanted to be somewhere where she could help. Durkin loved life and her family. While home on leave, she made time for all her nieces and nephews and helped one of her sisters finish some home remolding projects. She talked about buying a home with her brother Pierce. Ciaras family and friends are always in our thoughts, especially today, as they remember their loved one.
