POSTPARTUM CARE for moms was already lacking. A LOT. Absurd Covid-19 policies have made it next to near impossible for moms to have their ONE 6-week postpartum visit. You guys…I admit, the message in the pictures above was perhaps not my finest moment, but it was raw. I went to my visit, I took my newborn baby, and I was not permitted in. I was asked to wait outside in the hallway. I couldn’t even wait in the lobby. I asked to speak to my OB. 10 minutes later, his assistant comes out to speak to me…I asked for my provider, and he or they or whoever sent his assistant. Apparently the 5 minute postpartum phone calls they are offering now for moms who are unable to make the stars perfectly align to get their one visit was taking up too much time. I was told to reschedule my visit or do a telephone visit. I am all for telehealth when it is appropriate, heck, I offer virtual face-to-face therapy sessions myself. But someone please tell me - can you check a woman’s cervix over the phone? can you examine, touch, and see a mother’s cesarean incision over the phone? I left and fed my baby in the car, all without a postpartum visit. Because of absurd policies such as the one I shared about, MANY moms are skipping their visits all together or are left with SUBPAR and INAPPROPRIATE medical treatment. HOW IS THIS OKAY? Will you ask that same mom to drop her newborn off and wait in the car at well baby visits??? No, mom accompanies newborn to those visits. So WHY is the reverse any different? I understand a toddler, I understand older children…but a NEWBORN? Implement your face mask policy. Sanitize your pens. Place your lobby chairs 6 feet apart. Sanitize the patient rooms after visits. Check temperatures. But STOP taking away moms support systems. STOP separating moms from babies. STOP telling moms to show up ALONE in what is one of the MOST VULNERABLE times of her life. Just STOP. Moms shouldn’t be asked to choose between her baby and appropriate medical care. I’ve received hundreds of DMs from moms with similar stories that I started to save to a highlight on my feed. It’s so easy to view someone online as an “expert” simply because of their follower count, their conviction or their confidence. . Ask people about their education, certifications and experience. Ask for research, references and client referrals. If they are selling you products and services and they get offended by your questions or get defensive – pay attention! . If it seems someone you are following isn’t being forthcoming, ask if content is sponsored or if that specific post isn’t sponsored, ask if they have ever accepted money from that company or product. . Be weary of folks constantly pushing supplements and products, especially without any education or credibility behind it. . I get really fired up on the supplements thing. Supplements aren’t fluff, you can cause some significant damage and imbalances if you take a supplement that isn’t intended for your unique body. now that the days are getting colder and autumn is approaching, chances are, depressive episodes are coming for me. winter is my biggest depression trigger ever, and swedish winter is hellish to me (and like, most of us living here). i decided to sit down a little while ago and write down all my personal depression signs so i can be more mindful of when it might happen. it seems - well, depressing, to plan for depressive episodes, but that’s life with bipolar disorder. you gotta stay on top of your moods. i am a huge advocate for understanding your mental illness and knowing your triggers, warning signs, and symptoms. when i start feeling depressed, my extrovert heart grows uninterested in social interaction, and when i find myself around others i just feel so incredibly dull, bored and tired of playing the character that is myself. my energy is low and my motivation is pretty much zero. dishes pile up, teeth get that fuzzy feeling from not being brushed enough, room starts looking like a pigsty, it’s a whole mess. but once i realize that i might be depressed, the easier it gets to start fighting back, because you have to fight that damn depression until your will to retain your normal self is stronger than depression’s grip of your psyche. knowing what your depression looks like when it starts creeping up is really important. these are my signs of an incoming depression, what are your signs ? • • • #mentalhealth #mentalillness #mentalhealthawareness #psynligt #nostigma #mentalhealthwarrior #recovery #art #digitalart #artistsoninstagram #comic #crazyheadcomics - @crazyheadcomics on Instagram

please take five minutes today to read my highlight “helping SW’s” and fill in the scottish government’s consultation form to reject their plans to introduce the nordic model. *you do not have to be scottish to do this*. you guys are so so good for sharing my posts when it comes to sex work; this time i need your help with action. this move is an insidious policy which does not seek to help sex workers - it will drive the industry underground, decrease the ability to screen & implement safety measures, & endanger thousands. the stigma surrounding sex workers already is abysmal and this will make it worse. rather than focusing on reducing trafficking and providing genuine aid - such as housing, addiction support, mental health services & more readily available healthcare, they just want to “wipe out” sex work entirely. this however, will never happen - and so what is already a precarious industry with the most basic safety nets will vanish and become a very scary thing. sex workers deserve our respect. sex work is work ♥️ - @kardatoons on Instagram

This week is #BalanceAwarenessWeek and it’s really important to me as I’ve been helping to plan the first ever Vestibular Conference for @vestibularveda. Today’s topic was all about Navigating the Health System and was great presentation on how to get an accurate diagnosis with Dr. Kim Bell and and an open discussion with patients @true_kaylaisms and David Morrill. . I love that we kicked off with this topic as it is so important and the words “misdiagnosed” and “misinformed” came up often. There’s nothing quite like seeing a “D’s Best” ENT and having him tell you that your episodes of vertigo and feeling like you’re moving when standing still is normal (it’s not) and that it would go away with time (it didn’t) before finally admitting he didn’t have a clue. I saw some of the best neurologists in Dallas that never once mentioned migraine to me, instead almost blaming my symptoms on me, saying they were anxiety or depression induced (they weren’t). They completely overlooked key symptoms and history, unaware that migraine attacks don’t always include head pain. No one should ever have to deal with constant, terrifying symptoms while doctors just look at you like 🤷🏼♀️👍. . TW suicide . Il y a deux semaines, le dix septembre, cétait la journée mondiale de prévention du suicide. En années internet ça fait une éternité mais jai mis du temps à trouver les mots mais cest un sujet important pour moi. En déménageant, jai retrouvé mes journaux intimes dado. Chaque page, chaque mot, chaque tournure de phrase y évoque lenvie de mourir. Cest un sujet très tabou, et pourtant, le suicide a presque toujours fait partie de ma vie. Que ce soit dans mon rapport de moi à moi même, ou via des personnes de mon entourage qui en ont été victimes. Je ne sais plus qui et où, mais un jour quelquun ma dit Personne ne meurt de suicide. On meurt de dépression. Le suicide, cest juste la phase terminale. Ça ma fait comme un électrochoc. Jai compris que je nétais pas décisionnaire dans ce mal être. Aujourdhui je vais bien, depuis peu. Après une année 2018-2019 particulièrement atroce dun point de vue santé mentale, je pense être sur la bonne voie. Mais jadresse tout mon soutien à ceux qui se battent contre cette saloperie. Je sais que dans ces circonstances, tout semble nêtre que banalité et platitude, mais je vous le promets : ça vaut le coup de se battre. En ce qui me concerne, je nai pas envie de me lamenter sur les années perdues.
