We have just received two new Howler Monkeys, a Wooly Monkey as well as the two white Capuchins and Dusky Titi Monkey we received earlier this week. With many local zoos unable to survive due to lack of visitors we are taking in their animals. The two Howlers are a male and female pair, the Wooly Monkey has joined Ramon and Cesar, making our Wooly group larger and the Capuchins are also a male and female pair. We now have the chance to help them all back to optimal health and monitor their behaviour to see if they can be grouped and released in the future. Coppa flagra 11 pessoas em comércio ilegal de animais na Bx. do Fiscal Durante a ‘Operação Feira Livre’, guarnições da Companhia Independente de Polícia de Proteção Ambiental (Coppa) flagraram onze pessoas comercializando animais silvestres, na manhã deste domingo (18), na Baixa do Fiscal. Noventa e três pássaros e seis jabutis foram apreendidos. O tenente PM da Coppa Tiago Marcelino Portela explicou que a operação foi montada a partir de denúncias anônimas recebidas pela unidade do comércio ilegal de animais naquela região. “Três guarnições participaram da ação. Esse tipo de crime ambiental, infelizmente, é recorrente, mas estamos trabalhando para combater essa prática”, ressaltou. Carlos Alberto Ferreira de Santana, Fernando Pereira de Miranda, Amilton Batista Miranda, Edvaldo de Jesus Souza, Valdir Farias de Almeida, Joselito Souza Barbosa, Lourival da Conceição, Linaldo Pinto Tavares, Vagner da Silva Sanches, Alexandro Martins dos Santos e Rodolfo Varjão Carolino dos Santos foram apresentados na Central de Flagrantes. Esse tipo de crime ambiental está previsto no artigo 29 da Lei 9.605/98. A pena prevista é de seis meses a um ano de detenção, além de multa. Se a espécie estiver ameaçada de extinção, a pena passa a ser de nove meses a um ano e meio de detenção. Today marks the first day of #HispanicHeritageMonth. In the 17th and 18th centuries, when European nations were colonizing North America, Spanish controlled Florida became a place of freedom. In 1737, Spanish officials began enforcing royal edicts from 1693 and 1733 granting freedom to those who fled British colonies and who were willing to convert to Catholicism. Males searching for freedom in Spanish-occupied Florida also needed to complete a term of military service. Francisco Menéndez successfully escaped from his enslavers in South Carolina in 1724 and made his way to Saint Augustine. He eventually settled in the town Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose, formed in 1737 and colloquially known as Fort Mose. Here, he was quickly named a leader in the Black militia. He defended Fort Mose during multiple attacks - including an attempted attack by the then Governor of Georgia. After the Seven Years War, Spanish-occupied Florida was ceded to the British. Many freedmen, including Menéndez, fearing being enslaved once more, fled to Cuba. Today, Fort Mose is a site on the Network to Freedom. It is a National Historic Landmark, and multiple organizations work to protect its sites and stories. Me recuerda la selección de Bielsa ;nunca una seleccion había andado tan bien pero algunos decidieron que había que cambiarlo todo y es muy difícil que volvamos a ilusionarnos nuevamente con esa forma de juego. Tengo pena por ti mi Chile querido porque con este gobernante, con estos parlamentarios y con estos jueces no abrigo ninguna esperanza de que podamos volver a tomar el camino. Creanme amigos que me encantaría estar equivocado pero el nuevo Chile viene con mucho mas pobreza con mucho mas desigualdad con peores pensiones con peor educación con peor salud y con muchos menos recursos del estado para sus politicas publicas. Assam of Northeast India is a magical land when it comes to Nature and wildlife! This is a simple shot from a paddy field in Nagaon, Assam. The house on the tree is called a tree house and the villagers stay there at night to guard their crops from being raided by the jumbos. The elephants come down from the hills nearby. Sadly, there are incidents of human elephant conflicts too and casualties of both species do happen. Deforestation in many places , probably from demand of land for living or for agriculture purposes, and a resultant habitat loss of the elephants is one of the major reasons of these conflicts. So far so good. Everything is beautiful. But herds of jumbos 🐘 will start coming in and consuming and destroying a lot of the cultivations as the rice are almost ready to be harvested, putting a challenge to the peasants, thus arising the conflicts. Who is responsible? Alrededor de 3.000 millones de personas carecen de acceso a instalaciones básicas para lavarse las manos y 2.200 y 4.200 millones de personas en todo el mundo no han podido acceder a sus servicios de agua y saneamiento. Unas 785 millones de personas carecen de acceso incluso a los servicios básicos de agua potable y 2 millones de personas beben agua contaminada por las heces. Para 2025, aproximadamente la mitad de la población mundial vivirá en zonas con estrés hídrico. Mientras que la demanda mundial de agua está aumentando a un ritmo de alrededor del 1% anual desde el decenio de 1980, aumentando entre el 20 y el 30% por encima del nivel actual de utilización del agua para 2050. O filhote da anta Eva é o resultado da primeira reprodução de animais de grande porte reintroduzidos na fauna brasileira.    O pequeno bebê carioca é mais um a fazer parte do projeto @Refauna, que traz a espécie de volta às florestas do Rio após 100 anos.   Em dezembro de 2017, o Refauna iniciou a reintrodução de antas na Reserva Ecológica Guapiaçu (RJ). E nós, que somos parceiros no projeto, colaboramos com o envio dessas primeiras antas reintroduzidas, transferindo uma fêmea (a Eva) e dois machos para a Reserva.   Em nossa sede, em Araxá – MG, possuímos um criadouro para cuidar e tratar de animais e trabalhamos na proteção e reprodução das espécies que nos são encaminhadas pelo IBAMA e IEF. Atuamos para que nossas espécies sejam preservadas para as futuras gerações e, em conjunto com nossa rede de parceiros, lutamos pela conservação da vida terrestre.   Curiosidade 🤓: as antas possuem baixa mobilidade, então é essencial o auxílio humano para a reintrodução nessas áreas. This week Amazon Deforestation opened at Visa Pour LImage in Perpignan, France, by @everydayclimatechange member Victor Moriyama @victormoriyama Why do we need to protect forests? We are facing a climate emergency, and if the rainforest were to disappear, greenhouse gas emissions, responsible for climate change, would increase sharply. The land use pattern of the Amazon and other tropical forests around the world - cutting down trees to clear land for unsustainable use - has had devastating consequences in terms of global warming. The images on display here offer a glimpse of the Brazilian Amazon in 2019, showing deforestation led by people illegally occupying land without title deed. The photographs were taken over a period of seventy days during which I lived in different parts of this forest, during a report for the New York Times. This is a survey aimed at better understanding the social and ecological relationships within the forest, where illegal occupation of land is common practice. The expansion of agricultural land for ranching is the main cause of deforestation, further supported by powerful politicians in the Brazilian National Congress. Not to mention the illegal mining encouraged by President Bolsonaro, who introduced a bill authorizing mining and hydropower in indigenous territories. The looting of the forest is the first step in a complex web of illegal operations: cutting down trees, then selling and exporting the logs using false documents. This process, known as esquentar madeira, involves registering illegally harvested timber in protected areas as coming from legally felled trees, ready for shipment. How to stop the ongoing process of destruction, supported by the Brazilian government? I would like my images to have an impact on the general public, that they act as an electric shock in order to force the authorities and the companies to take action and to implement a sustainable management of the forests. PMA flagra ato ilegal de pesca. A Polícia Militar Ambiental, através da unidade em São Miguel do Oeste, realizou na manhã desta quarta-feira, 26, ações de fiscalização de pesca no Rio das Flores, interior de Bandeirante. Durante a fiscalização, realizada no lago da barragem PCH Bandeirante, foram flagrados pescadores praticando atos ilegais de pesca. Sendo recolhidas 17 redes de pesca de malhas diversas, duas tarrafas, além de dezenas peixes. Os pescadores não possuíam licenças para pesca, motivo pelo qual foram autuados e tiveram seus materiais para pesca e peixes apreendidos.
