Landscape is the first noteworthy American pictorial genre, but it is a tacit agreement that the gender reached its zenith with the Hudson River School. My encounter with the work of this group of landscape painters confirmed its symbolic and aesthetic link with European Romanticism, while raising a nearly pantheistic character of painting, a sublimation of nature connected with everything and the concept of God. Artists such as Frederic Church incorporate the concept of “the sublime” to the landscape painting on this side of the world. This concept had already been addressed by Kant in his book Critique of Judgment (Kritik der Urteilskraft) to approach art and had exponents in Europe, such as Turner. The meaning of “the sublime” as sacred —which opens the possibility of approaching nature in its divine and monumental character— is close enough to the painting process which results from my meditation practice. We visit Port Isaac daily on our trips, did you know it’s actually called Porthysek in Cornish. The meaning of the Cornish name is corn port, indicating a trade in corn from the arable inland district. The origins of Port Isaac are likely Celtic and the development of the town can be roughly dvided into three phases. Through the middle ages and up to the coming of the railways Port Isaac was a thriving port serving the area inland. During the Tudor period the harbour was dredged, a good illustration of its importance. Once goods from locations further inland were better served by the North Cornwall Railway, the economy of the port relied on pilchard fishing, an activity that had likely been happening for centuries. However the pilchard shoals began to decline, and following World War 1 tourism became the mainstay of the economy. On June 6th, 1944, David Silva (left) was 19 years old when he landed on Omaha Beach with the 116th Infantry Reg. 29th Division. Upon reaching the sand, he was hit 3 times in the chest by an MG sitting on top of the bluff. Simultaneously, 21 year old Heinrich Severloh (right) of the 352nd Infanterie-Division was manning his MG42 on the same sector that Silva was on. As the day progressed and the Allies overtook the beachhead, Heinrich became a POW. In the mid 1960s, Silva was contacted by Heinrich after he found Silvas name in the book The Longest Day as one of the survivors of the Easy Red sector. Both men met in Germany and after sharing their details of that day, Heinrich realized that he was the one who shot Silva on the beach. Almost 60 years later, both men met on the same landing sector of Omaha beach and shook hands, and this photo captured it all. Silva said: I forgave him, even though he didnt want me to. I think he really wanted this, he was hurting alot. . Heinrich said: There was no glory on the beach that day, just a lot of blood and screams and young men dying. With Silva, you can apologize, the others who died out there, you can no longer apologize. Applying context to train more intelligently. There are a few key parameters that provide context: scientific understanding, specificity (to football), individualisation (to knowledge of yourself), the goals / intended outcome, accessibility/equipment and application. We can use these as a pathway to decide whether our training is actually being effective in achieving our goals. • E.g. training balance on a bosu ball - science (offers benefits in certain scenarios) - specificity (no, we play on a flat surface and instability comes higher up the kinetic chain therefore it does not develop football-specific abilities) ❌ • E.g. training strength with a squat - science (yes) - Specificity (although not a football-specific movement it does offer useful benefits by improving the overall ability to produce and withstand force - individualisation (what effect does it have on me? does it fit with my schedule?) - goals (want to develop strength) - accessibility (there are barbells in my gym) - application (use 80%+1RM, low reps, full recovery between) ✅ - @fuelforfootball on Instagram

In 1899 schilderde Co Breman dit mooie schilderij Dorpsgezicht te Blaricum. Breman hield van de zon. Hij schilderde in zonlicht badende landschappen, boerderijen, kleurrijke interieurs en figuren. Hij werkte als een van de eerste Nederlandse schilders in een pointillistische techniek die hij toepaste om het warme zomerse licht weer te geven. Zijn nieuwe stijl leverde hem ook de nodige kritiek op. Een recensent veroordeelde dit schilderij als een mislukte nieuwerwetsche poging om de zon binnen te halen. At first it was more about poverty, but now I think it is mostly about piety. Millet made this painting as a commission for Thomas Gold Appleton, but for some reason he never came to collect it. After a while Millet decided to rework part of the painting and sell it to someone else. Originally, there were just these two people praying over a basket of potatoes they had harvested. It was then called ‘Prayer for the Potato Crop’. That title makes you think that they are praying for a better harvest, because what they have so far is not much. There is just one basket and a big bag on the wheelbarrow. But eventually Millet added the church tower in the background and renamed it ‘the Angelus’. That name refers to a prayer that catholics were required to say three times a day, at dawn, noon and dusk. Although in the 19th century it was usually at 6 am, noon and 6 pm. The prayer was announced by a bell that would ring in church towers. It would also be the end of the working day. So with that in mind, the painting is about the prayer at the end of a working day and therefore a pious moment. Apparently Millet himself said that when he had worked the fields as a child, his grandmother would always observe the Angelus so it was also a personal memory. The painting was sold and resold to several private owners, but even so, reproductions of it were also sold. Those became very popular as a religious painting. Many people commented that when they saw it, they could almost hear the distant bell ring. In fact, one of its previous owners, Jules van Praët, exchanged the painting for another Millet. When asked why he did that he said: “everyone thinks they can hear the nearby church bell tolling, and in the end, the constant ringing just became tiresome”. .
