Je passe une grande partie de mon temps en montagne. Cest ma passion, mon metier, mon temps libre. Here we are on a crisp Saturday morning, pretty happy and keen to bounce up the Pearce valley and head underground for 2 nights. HOWEVER the otherwise invincible Stevo was attacked at our underground campsite by a dreaded and illusive back-twanger. This brutal assault rendered him unable to walk for 2 days, leading to an unplanned 3rd night underground. A memorable trip - not for the reasons Id expected though 😅 I really appreciated having you guys around for the top quality banter during the 2 days we spent watching formations grow. Endless cups of tea and snakes and ladders on the back of a cracker packet will be fond memories - dampened only by soggy polyprops, the drippy ceiling, and concern for our worried parents. I couldnt say thank you enough to CaveSAR and LandSAR and everyone involved in the search and rescue process. Its so good to know that there is this incredible safety net in place, made up of really talented and dedicated people who gave up their sleep and time to ensure our safety. If you couldn’t already tell, Cold Hands was about the night my old man unexpectedly died. It was his birthday yesterday. When I was an angsty teen, he once asked me why I listened to music that made me sad. He told me that he preferred music that made him happy and that he could dance to. His reference at the time was Jamiroquai. I bought him a Jamiroquai album for his birthday that year. He died years later. The day after he died, I found the Jamiroquai CD in the CD player at home. I like to think he was dancing when he was home alone before he died. I also like to think he would have enjoyed dancing to Cold Hand, despite the sad lyrics. Ciao Egidio 😢 Dopo una lunga malattia si è spento nella notte tra lunedì e martedì Egidio Lotti, uno dei fondatori di San Patrignano. Al fianco di Vincenzo Muccioli sin dall’inizio, fu una figura di estrema dedizione e impegno negli anni in cui prendeva forma il metodo di recupero. . Senza riserve anche nei momenti difficili, fu saldo nella scelta di vita di dedicarsi all’impegno per il prossimo. Un impegno condiviso con la moglie Maria e il figlio Claudio, attualmente uno degli educatori del Centro minori femminile all’interno della Comunità. Per San Patrignano Egidio, originario di Cesena, rinunciò a una vita sicura e comoda per seguire come volontario Vincenzo nei primi anni Ottanta, conquistato dal grande progetto di solidarietà che divenne poi San Patrignano. Con lui furono gettate le basi dell’odierno Centro Medico, struttura sanitaria che si occupa della salute di tutti i giovani del centro di recupero. Nel tempo libero, si dedicava agli animali da cortile allevati in Comunità, che accudiva dimostrando un amore smisurato per la natura e per la vita. Today were sharing some of our fantastic #UHIGrad stories, including Rachael Cross, who graduates with an honours degree in Geography 🥳👏 Rachael is now studying a Masters in Environment and Development at the University of Edinburgh with a view to pursuing a career in environmental consultancy. “My degree has confirmed the field of work I want to go down and given me a wide range of knowledge and skills for my future career, she said. “Geography was always one of my favourite subjects at school, so I knew I wanted to study it at university. We covered a wide range of topics and the small numbers within class made this a really friendly and positive experience. There was lots of group involvement and interaction between tutors and classmates, which I really enjoyed. The support from tutors was really good, and they always went out of their way to help.” She worked with MOO Food, a local food charity, as part of her work experience placement. El Dr. Javier Nastry, al referirse al Sitio Virgen Perdida destaca la existencia de un sector realizado con decoración pétrea, bloques blancos encastrados en los muros de piedra color plomizo. Relaciona este aspecto con otro existente en Rincón Chico conocido como muro de los “ojitos” y sugiere que el mencionado muro puede haber tenido relación con una importante caída de agua que se encuentra inmediatamente hacia el oeste conocida como “El Chorro”, agrega, que el salto de agua puede haber estado investido de valor simbólico para los habitantes aborígenes de un valle semiárido. ℹ El Chorro no es de fácil acceso y requiere de guías y baqueanos para llegar. En las alturas desde donde baja el agua, existen piletones de cuarzo y feldespato blanco, en el lugar pueden apreciarse restos de tiestos cerámicos que comprueban el uso antiguo del sitio. Welcome to our next artist in residence at Artica Svalbard, Daniel Persson. Persson will stay in Longyearbyen for six weeks, he is nominated by our Key Partner Queen Sonja Print Award. DanielPersson (b. 1974) is a Swedish visual artist living and working in Bergen. He works primary on paper with printmaking and photography. He’s interested in the landscape that surrounds us. In the things and gadgets we identify ourselves with and the marks that we leave behind. In photography and printmaking, often large scale screen printing based on his photographs, he explores the boundary between abstraction and classic depiction of landscapes. Persson holds a BA in printmaking from Bergen Academy of Art and Design. For a number of years he has been working with colleagues to run Trykkeriet - a leading center for contemporary printmaking in the nordic region. I just love this picture of Chippy from yesterday’s hike. In the mountains, on the trail, in his element, so freaking happy. Even tho he’s out there in the wild, we cannot help touching base ever few hours (how did that quote go? ‘Happiness is only real when shared’ - I dont agree entirely altho it is a fitting quote for the two of us) I havent been to the Tatras since I was a teenage girl and so it was cool to find that when I looked at the trail map, memories of each route came flooding back to me. Im not good with heights so we never did any technical routes but otherwise I must have done 80-90% of Tatry trails at some point or another. Excited, we began planning Chippy’s route: four days out in the mountains, three nights in the log cabin shelters. First day already crashed my plan - an estimated route of 7+ hours Chippy did in just 2,5h(!) And seeing that he started around 7am, having finished his day around 9am did present a problem. He ended up doing more than two days worth of trekking in one day doing every route in 30% estimated time - to be honest, I always forget how insanely fit he is. No heavy trekking boots, flying over the rocks in his five-finger vibrams (which he said were attracting much attention) All this whilst carrying all his gear and over 4kgs of dry provisions on his back. This morning, another change of the plans - heavy rainfall and no conditions to do the Zawrat passage, he messaged me the views from Krzyzne - his alternate route - were to die for. Would I love to be there with him? Hell yeah. But I know my role as a breastfeeding Mum to Leo has to come first right now. Also, I am not alone here - my parents taking care of Leo, Im enjoying some rare time all by myself (solitude can be so freaking blissful!) Chippy and I have an agreement that as soon as I finish breastfeeding, Im going on a week long vacation with my bestie @joanna_kulczynska. That as well as doing another Vipassana 10 day silent meditation retreat. And even tho it might be years before I can do these - Im already excited as f*ck! 😃😎 - @fit_shortie_eats on Instagram

Meet the paw-rents! Hello from Maslows dads. 👬 As a general rule we try and keep this account focused on Maslow but enough queries have inspired us to introduce ourselves. We live in Vancouver, BC (Canada) and have been in each others lives for 5 very happy years. On the right we have James, a geography buff thats obsessed with geomorphology and trains. James grew up rural in Vancouver with big land roaming doggos, so when we met and I told him that wed need to get a dog one day, he thought it would be further down the line when we owned said rural property (jokes on him 😉). James works in the rail industry, is a huge fan of road biking, and takes every opportunity to plan camping trips all over BC. On the left is me, Mark! I grew up in Hamilton, Ontario with a mini schnauzer and have always felt an intense closeness to doggos since as far as I could remember. Im *very* into human psychology (hence Maslows name) and graduated with my masters in Counselling Psychology last summer which allows me to treat an array of anxiety disorders in adults for a living. I also love rock climbing, VR gaming, and Greys Anatomy (Im an OG fan). Shortly after defending my thesis, we decided it was time to introduce this bundle of fluff into our lives. The joy she brings into our day to day is unparalleled, and watching the reactions of people who stop and play with her on our walks have led us to start training her as a psychotherapy assistant dog! With the power of puppy love and oxytocin, Maslow will be meeting all the needs of the people I work with to help with distress regulation and grounding. First she needs to stop barking and nipping though so itll be another while till shes ready for that phase of her life. 🙃 The doggo community is pretty rad, so from the bottom of our hearts thank you for all the love and support you show our little girl. : crimony, the rhino vinyl stooges fun house box set, thank you hank! from ig: Building Fun House by Iggy Pop I was laying on my back on the floor of the Stooges rehearsal room, stoked on LSD and reefer, staring at the lovely amplifiers and egg cartons on the walls, when I thought I saw the word Funhouse hovering above me in the air, just below the ceiling. We were about half way through writing and preparation for our sophomore album, and it needed a title this time. I remember thinking this is it; were going with it. The rehearsal room was set up in the former salon of a lovely old farmhouse we rented for $325 a month on the outskirts of Ann Arbor. It had a wide porch, a stately driveway, and a nice lawn and trees. There was an abandoned corn field and junked car in back. The farmer was too old to live there anymore, so we took over. There was a kitchen, rec room, tv room, rehearsal room, 2 proper bedrooms, 2 separated apartments, and a converted attic and basement. 6 of us slept there, most of the time. There was a lot of dope smoking, some good writing, and a bit of rehearsal done at that house which later became known as The Funhouse after the album. The songs on the album were all written there, most of it in my attic bedroom. Ron had gotten his hands on the best private apartment, and a nice girlfriend too named Shelly. So, he wasnt as prolific as he had been previously, and I dont blame him. Anyway, Id write a number that I thought the group could play well, bring it downstairs from my attic room and try to rehearse it up. Once it was solid, wed play it at our gigs on the weekend. Scott Asheton and myself were both very keen to do something much more aggressive than our first record which was more laid back in certain ways. Im not sure what Ron thought about that, but he definitely enjoyed what we were doing on this new record. As the concept progressed, I felt that the kind of music we were doing needed to expand and explode as the record moved forward, and thats why we brought in Steve Mackay to help blow us over the top with his psychedelic sax... - @wattfrompedro on Instagram

Inside of this absolutely insane year, I am learning so many lessons about being the person I’ve always wanted to be. I’ve wanted to hike Mt Whitney for years and there was always some dumb excuse, so of course I did it during a global pandemic. This shit was HARD! And bleak! I couldn’t catch my breath for like 4 hours! Ouch! But we fucking did it! And that rules! My brother has a physically crippling fear of heights and THAT mother fucker did it too! Wow! Amazing! For the past handful of springs I’ve been entering a bunch of banked slalom events all over Colorado. The atmosphere of these “competitions” is one of my favorite parts about snowboarding culture. It’s a gathering of passionate people coming together to challenge themselves and have some fun—together. “When you compete against everyone else, no one wants to help you. But when you compete against yourself, everyone wants to help you.”-Simon Sinek. I think this perfectly illustrates the ethos around this community. Energy is high, lots of laughs, side bets, jokes, heckling, high fives, hoots and hollering. In the end it doesn’t hurt to end up third right behind some amazing people as well 😉. That time I had coffee with Werner Herzog at Telluride Film Festival. I was there for the premiere of Free Solo, & was having a coffee one afternoon while waiting. Werner randomly came over and asked to share my table- we ended up chatting for about 30 minutes about filming Free Solo (which he was going to see that evening) and his experiences on mountains in South America, he has lots of interesting stories about the challenges of shooting in every environment. When I got up to leave I asked if I could take his picture and he suggested we take one together. He was pleased that I was carrying a film camera with me, my trusty Leica m6 with some Portra 400 in it. What a moment. Sad that Telluride is cancelled this year, it has a special place in my heart and is an amazing Film Festival, I’ve been lucky enough to have projects there three years In a row, “Free Solo” premiered there in 2018, “Inside Bills Brain” premiered there in 2019 and this year another film I shot, “The Way I See it” will premiere there, even if it isn’t a physical festival.. - @clairpopkin on Instagram

The brothers that started it all. . Garry and Dirck Coon started the farm together in 1953. Having grown up on a farm in the valley and working on other farms, they were no strangers to the industry or area. They sold the milk to a local co-op that required either Guernsey or Jersey milk, and thats how Smithfield Guernseys came to be. They both raised their families on the farm and their values have passed down from generation to generation. Garry has since passed, but Dirck and his wife Carol still live on the farm. Dirck comes by nearly every day to see the happenings around the barns. Just released is a newly recorded version of Angels Flying Too Close to The Ground with Steve Bailey, pioneering jazz bassist who has performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Kitaro, Victor Wooten, Jethro Tull, Jon Anderson/YES and more, and is also the chair of the Bass Department at Berklee College of Music. Written by Nelson, the original version of Angels Flying Too Close to The Ground debuted on his 1980 album Honeysuckle Rose and reached No. 1 on Billboards Hot Country Songs chart. A regular hit on Nelsons set list, the song has been covered by Bob Dylan, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Raul Malo, The Smoking Popes, and Alison Krauss. This new recording is an intimate performance of just Nelson on vocals and Bailey on bass and is featured on Baileys full length album Carolina. Nelson told Bailey, Steve, I have never sang or recorded with just a bass before, but I am known for trying anything once. Lets do it! Happy dog day! This is a shout out to my dear Darby. This girl has been with me through hell and back and couldn’t be sweeter. These past couple of years she’s been slowing down and I can tell her hips hurt quite a bit so psycho mom made her Zen Zoo! Beside the rain, which we were already used to from other northern destinations, there was one thing very characteristic for the Faroe Islands, namely very strong wind.
