Heute war es dann soweit und wir haben den letzten Wagen Mais für 2020 eingefahren 🚜 Das war natürlich ein tolles Gefühl 🤩🤩 Doch auch wir haben das trockene Jahr gemerkt und dazu kommt noch Wildschaden 😟 Zum Glück haben wir noch ein bisschen Futter vom letzten Jahr übrig - doch wenn der Mais im nächsten Jahr wieder so wie in diesem Jahr ist, könnte es eng werden. Futter zu zukaufen wäre zwar eine Option - aber das ist sehr teuer 💰 Wo soll das noch hinführen? Wir werden immer als die Klimasünder Nummer 1 dargestellt, dabei sind wir bei den Ersten, die die Auswirkungen zu spüren bekommen. Wir möchten unser Futter regional produzieren und wissen was unsere Tiere zu fressen bekommen. Primero llegaron las cajas vacías, se descargaron y se repartieron en las más de 30 parcelas que trabajo durante todo el año; se vendimiaron en cajas de 15 kg parcela por parcela, se recogieron hasta llevarlas al punto de carga donde se paletizaron y se cargaron en nuestro camión destino Peñafiel. Todo este proceso se llevó a cabo en menos de 12 horas. Fueron dos días para vendimiar 25.000 kg. Esfuerzo titánico de todo el equipo humano. Más de 50 personas de tres nacionalidades diferentes, los jóvenes pusieron su energía y fuerza física, los mayores su experiencia y conocimiento del terreno, Urbano su pericia con la maquinaria, Raul su templanza para transportar con el mayor mimo las uvas a Peñafiel desde Navaredondilla. In the recent floods of 2020, the valley provides starkly contrasting examples of the effects of an extreme flooding event on adjacent properties, one under normal farming exploitative management and one under the watchful eye of Andrews and his regenerative management team. The upper catchment farm was devastated and critically eroded by the flood but on the lower farm, there was no visible erosive damage. 2020 Self admission. I did not pivot. In the year where the crystal ball was shattered, we who own small businesses were thrown into survival mode. Many of my friends and colleagues quickly changed their business plan and, in many cases, added business attributes that fed their soul MORE than their pre-pandemic business. How cool is that? There were many days where I awoke and wondered what my new business would look like now that weddings and events were mostly canceled. And then I remembered (and as a woman business owner something that is often difficult to do) I acknowledged what I had done already. Many years ago, I submitted my resignation to my “career” job. Robert and I sold or gave away most of our belongings. We sold our home that was supposed to be our forever home. I sold my car. Why? So we could create careers we loved where it didn’t feel like life = work. So this year, a pandemic wiped out 80% or more of my business. I did not pivot. Instead, Robert and I created a new garden space that will enable us to expand the current cutting garden larger than my dreams. We added further improvements to my studio space. I created a new website. I launched my #flowerbomb4love donation page. And I poured my heart into every small event that was still on the books. Masks and sunglasses can come in handy when you’re often brought to tears on delivery day thankful for every couple who have persevered through all this. This pandemic has made me realize even more…this is not just my career. This is my passion. So whenever a new normal is established, I’m hoping we’re blessed to still be here. Our cutting garden will provide beautiful blooms. Our updated studio and walk in cooler allow us to take on bigger events. During our last month of trade we feel it important to recognise the wonderful producers who have come together to provide us an abundance of choice in sourcing a wholly local menu. Meet @manavifarm_pasturedeggs run by Robyn and Lindsay Cousins in Watheroo. It is beautiful to see what they are doing with their pasture raised hens, fed a diet free of GMO produce or artificial colourants (you know, to make the yolks yellow) and raised in mobile coops. Their two beautiful dogs and some portable solar-powered electric fences are more than enough deterrent for predators. It’s wonderful small, transparent businesses like @manavifarm_pasturedeggs, here purely for the good of our diets and the environment, that make our food system in WA the envy of the world. В результате за полгода фермеры смогли приобрести столько же техники, сколько за три предыдущих года. Отдельно ведомство отметило нашу инициативу по поддержке личных подсобных хозяйств на содержание коров в период «большого молока». Правила программы, возможно, потребуют корректировки, у нас есть время сделать это до следующего сезона. Важной частью дальнейшей работы я по-прежнему считаю создание единого бренда местных товаропроизводителей и вывод этого бренда на общероссийские рынки. Работа в этом направлении уже ведется, ряд производителей, с которыми встречались еще весной и в течение лета, уже регистрируют торговые марки. Параллельно готовится онлайн-площадка для продвижения экологически чистой продукции с пометкой «сделано в Чувашии». Weve spent a lot of time with the Allium Family this week! Weve been sorting and packing over 400 Garlic Orders, Grading and Cleaning 1500 shallots, and harvesting more than 3,000 lbs of onions so far! If youre like us, youre kind of into this plant family. It brings us garlic, shallots, onions, and awesomness! Flavors for all dishes and aromas that envelope the kitchen. As we transition into Fall, our allium offerings will transition as well. Sweet Onions and White Onions are winding down. Whats in the market is all thats left for 2020. Red Onions and Yellow Onions are just coming in. We intend to have ample supply through Thanksgiving at least. Shallots are looking great, but we didnt grow enough. Theyll store for months, but our supply will run out before Thanksgiving. Garlic supplies are vanishing. It sounds crazy. We know. Every year we wonder what well do with all this garlic. And lately, we keep wondering why we dont have enough! The garlic in the market is all thats left for 2020. Feel free to stock up now. When we run out, we run out. Black Garlic demand this year has been unprecedented. Were doing our best to stock up, but well be lucky to get through the Holiday Season with any left. Our goal was to have enough to get to next June. Now were unsure if well have enough to get to 2021! Fear not! Were doubling our garlic acreage this fall to grow more than 30,000 bulbs for 2021. Were very excited to announce that Salt Lake City is now home to one of the most advanced #recycling centers in the country! The new Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) was built and is operated by @wastemanagement. Its where all of Salt Lake City’s residential recycling is sorted before the material goes on to its final destination to turn into new goods. It’s a single-stream operation and sorts empty plastic bottles and containers, metal cans, cardboard, paper, and newspaper. The facility is outfitted with the latest recycling technology and equipment. This matters because consumer material continues to change at a rapid pace and the sheer quantity of recyclable material being processed has also gone up dramatically– and will only continue to grow. So we need facilities that can keep up, especially with the inundation of “contamination” in recycling bins (these are items that aren’t recyclable in the blue bin, but can overwhelm these facilities – like plastic bags, the many types of new-fangled packaging, Styrofoam, as well as things that obviously shouldn’t go in there like hoses, bowling balls, food, clothing, trash etc. See our Stories for a glimpse.) What’s different at this MRF, you might ask? A good analogy is that it’s like going from the Flintstones with the old recycling technology to the Jetsons with the new technology . . . overnight. The facility is comprised of a network of machinery equipped with advanced automation capabilities and sorting optics. Rotating fiber screens, ballistic motion separators, 2D and 3D optical sorters, and barrel magnets are among technologies used to separate materials. More than 2.5 miles of fast-moving conveyor belts carry materials through this single-stream processing facility. The MRF has been operating for a month now and the improvements in recovery quantities and end-product quality are astounding. It’s also helping the City with fuel and time savings. Due to its closer location in SLC, we’ve been able to cut 1.5 hours from each of our recycling truck’s daily drives. Onions are harvested, cured, bagged, tagged, and stored safely in the barn with the garlic. A lot of hands cared for these onions over the past 7 months— they were seeded in February before the pandemic took hold, planted in April in the midst of Maine’s lockdown, weeded in May and June, harvested in August, and they will feed us through the end of 2020. The cycle will begin again, but for now we’ll enjoy our onions, and we hope you will too. Next up: winter squash. Gestern fand unser erster nicht virtueller Feldtag 2020 statt.😃 Am Betrieb von Christian Schüller( @schuellerchristian )wurden vier unterschiedliche Sämaschinen bei der Direktsaat von Zwischenfrüchten in Getreidestoppel vorgeführt.👍 Vorgeführt wurden die Zinkensämaschine Sprinter und Einscheiben-Direktsaatdrille Avatar von @horsch.maschinen , die Direktsaatmaschine #Easydrill der Firma @sky_agriculture sowie die Mulchsämaschine Spirit von @vaderstad . Nach der Vorstellung der Maschinen wurden sie in der Praxis gezeigt und das Arbeitsbild und die Ablagetiefe unter die Lupe genommen. 🧐 Drei der Maschinen sind im Stande Saatgut mit unterschiedlichen Korngrößen aus mehreren Tanks in verschiedenen Arbeitstiefen abzulegen. Ernte 2020 ✅ und alles ist Futtergetreide Was bedeutet das? Weizen ist nicht gleich Weizen. Abhängig seiner Inhaltsstoffe wird der Weizen in Brot- oder Futterweizen eingestuft. Wenn der Weizen einen Proteingehalt von mindestens 12 % hat, gilt er als Brotweizen und ist für uns Menschen geeignet. Der Proteingehalt entscheidet über die Backqualität. Je höher der Proteingehalt ist, desto besser sind die Eigenschaften zum Backen. Die Proteingehalte unseres Weizens waren alle unter 12 % und ist somit Futter für Kühe, Schweine und Haustiere. Was beeinflusst den Proteingehalt? Der Proteingehalt im Weizen wird durch die Düngung beeinflusst. Dabei ist die Menge und der Zeitpunkt der Stickstoffdüngung ausschlaggebend. Aber warum werden die Proteingehalte von mindestens 12% nicht erreicht? Durch die Verschärfungen der Düngeverordnung bringen wir weniger Stickstoffdünger aus. Weniger Stickstoff bedeutet auch weniger Nahrung für die Pflanzen und schlechtere Proteingehalte. FAZIT: Woher kommt unser Brotgetreide, wenn wir hier in Deutschland keins mehr produzieren? (Wahrscheinlich wird es importiert. Wieder eine anspruchsvolle Woche geschafft 💪🏻 Die letzte Woche begann mit Hitze und Trockenheit und endet mit Kälte und ergiebigen Regen. So vielfältig wie das Wetter, waren auch unsere Aufgaben und Herausforderungen. Und genauso vielfältig war auch die Stimmung im Betrieb! Für mich gab es wieder viele Aha! Erlebnisse sowohl bei der Saat vom Triticale, als auch bei der Maisernte. Er war ein tolles Gefühl, wenn man sieht, dass seine Bemühungen rund um den Boden (im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes) Früchte tragen! Die unterschiedlichen Saatbedingungen und die unterschiedlichen Maisbestände haben gezeigt, dass mein Weg für mich der richtige ist! Das freut mich und macht mich unheimlich stolz. Mein Vater ist extra ans Feld gefahren um sich die Saatbedingungen anzusehen und auch unser Angestellter hat beim Säen gesagt wie toll unser Boden ist. 🤗 Auch wenn ich weiß, dass ich für meinen Weg am Feld (und in der Öffentlichkeitsarbeit) von vielen belächelt werde, gehe ich diesen Weg weiter, weil ich davon überzeugt bin. Ich zeig euch hier meine Art der Landwirtschaft, ich zeige euch auch kritische Sachen und Dinge die nicht funktioniert haben. Aber ich zeige euch auch gerne die Sachen die geklappt haben und auf die ich Stolz bin! Ich finde man darf ruhig auch stolz auf seine Leistungen sein! Man darf zeigen was man kann, ohne dabei gleich überheblich zu wirken! #DiaDaÁrvore Nesta segunda-feira, 21 de setembro, no Dia da Árvore, o OJC organizou uma ação de distribuição de mais de 300 mudas de araucárias e outras espécies nativas da Floresta com Araucária para sensibilizar a sociedade para os riscos do Projeto de Lei (PL) 537/2019. De autoria do deputado estadual Emerson Bacil (PSL), o projeto busca autorizar o manejo (ou corte) de araucárias no Paraná para facilitar o plantio de erva-mate, por exemplo, ou outras práticas produtivas. A aprovação do PL piorar ainda mais a já dramática situação de conservação da Floresta com Araucária no Estado. Depois de décadas de exploração irresponsável e ausência de fiscalização e ações efetivas do poder público, essa formação vegetal associada ao bioma Mata Atlântica acabou reduzida a menos de 0,8% de fragmentos em bom estado de conservação em todo o país. O ato ocorreu em frente ao Governo do Paraná e à Assembleia Legislativa porque, a partir das 09h30, acontecia uma audiência pública online sobre o PL no local. As mudas foram compradas pelo OJC e Caritas brasileira regional Paraná da Sociedade Chauá pela metade do valor de venda. A entidade mantém há anos um viveiro de espécies nativas e ameaçadas de extinção da Floresta com Araucária. Elas foram doadas acompanhadas de exemplares da última edição do jornal Justiça e Conservação aos pedestres e motoristas que passaram pelo local pela manhã, em um modelo de “drive thru de mudas”. Todos os presentes também compareceram de máscaras e tomaram cuidados em relação ao distanciamento social. Participaram do ato, junto com o OJC, representantes de entidades como Sociedade de Pesquisa em Vida Selvagem e Educação Ambiental (SPVS), SOS Mata Atlântica, Mater Natura, Cáritas brasileira regional Paraná, Centro de Estudos, Defesa e Educação Ambiental (Cedea), Confederação Nacional dos Bispos do Brasil, Federação dos Trabalhadores na Agricultura do Paraná, Sindicato Estadual dos Servidores Públicos da Agricultura e Meio Ambiente e Rede de ONGs da Mata Atlântica (RMA). We are very thankful that Hurricane Teddy didnt have a profound impact on our farm as the weather system moved across the province last night and this morning. One of our most vulnerable places on the farm with weather activity is our Haygrove tunnels.
