⭕ Campement mineur.es J+5 ⭕ La vie quotidienne sinstalle et la préfecture sobstine Le campement pour mineurs isolés en recours du square Jules Ferry, installé lundi soir, est toujours en place. ⚽ Sur place la vie quotidienne sorganise pour la petite centaine de jeunes et, passé le stress des premiers jours, tout se fait dans la bonne humeur. Foot, atelier banderoles, pétanque, ping pong, cours de français, autant dactivités nécessaire pour passer le temps et maintenir la cohésion de groupe pour continuer à porter ensemble nos revendications. Car, pour ce quil en est de lobjectif et des solutions attendues, nous sommes encore loin du compte... Jeudi matin, la préfecture avait initialement prévu une évacuation du campement et une orientation des jeunes vers un CAES. Une orientation parfaitement inadaptée car il sagit de dispositifs pour majeurs. Sous les différentes pressions, lévacuation a finalement été annulée. 🤔 Nous avons contacté la préfecture dIle de France afin dobtenir un rendez vous et dentamer le dialogue au sujet des solutions attendues. La réponse est arrivée par mail : la préfecture refuse le rendez-vous et nie une fois de plus la minorité des jeunes, balayant du revers leurs recours, les revendications et la situation extrêmement précaire des jeunes, autant de points qui sont la source même du campement. La seule proposition faite par la préfecture a été, une fois de plus, une orientation vers des dispositifs pour majeurs. Nous tenons des assemblées avec les jeunes du campement, tous les soirs. Ils sont donc parfaitement au courant de nos discussions avec les pouvoirs publics et, après concertation, nous avons décidé de maintenir le campement tant que nos revendications ne seront pas entendues. ⚠️ Les mineur.es en recours doivent obligatoirement être considéré.es comme des mineur.es jusquà ce que la décision finale du juge tombe et donc être pris en charge comme tel. I used to encounter children in city slums and remote villages, and have nothing to give them but a smile. In my dream, I asked my friends to send me presents to give the children. When I woke up, God helped me make that dream a reality. . So many of you gave generously, with fantastic gifts like soccer balls that bring joy to an entire village like this one; with books to help the children learn to read; with clothing and toys to bring the children warmth and joy. ❤️ . Your generosity and support inspired me. God gave me the dream, but my friends made me realize I could actually make a difference. Changing the world is too big for anyone on their own, but I realized together, we can bring joy to impoverished children...one suitcase and one child at a time. . Roatán is a beautiful island located in the Bay Islands of Honduras. Ecotourism has been an important source of income for islanders on this small but vibrant island. Coxen Hole is the largest city in Roatán. Roatán has drawn in travelers from across the globe with its mountainous inner region and miles of sandy white beaches on its shores. Even more beautiful then it’s stunning views are the beautiful faces of the children of Coxen Hole. This year with the pandemic tourism has ceased and there is no money coming into the island. This of course has created a financial burden for many islanders. #GlobalGirlLife Foundation is raising money to help our friend Estrellita Connor who has been taking care of many of the children in her neighborhood of Coxen Hole and MudHole. #GlobalGirlLife Foundation is raising money to help with the task of nourishing these children so that when school starts they are there to receive the education needed to grow into strong self actualized individuals who will be directly impacted by the love and generosity of a global community. The floods and muslide in Chesegon, West Pokot County in Kenya have had devastating effects. The community has lost their loved ones, homes and livelihoods. The mudslide has left the community without water, and in unsanitary conditions heightening the communitys vulnerability to COVID-19.We, therefore, gave water cans and handwashing stations. Alongside the cans, we also gave water treatment chemicals to protect from water borne diseases. Women and adolescent girls have special needs that are often hard to meet during a crisis. Today we are partnering with the Sisters in the Benue State Daudu IDP camp in Nigeria to provide food, sanitization and hygiene products, and trainings on COVID prevention practices. This IDP camp that the Sisters chose to support was 2-4 hours away from them, but they recognized the importance of serving this community given their remote location. Aside from providing food relief (rice, beans, tomatoes, seasonings) and hygiene products (liquid and laundry soap, face masks and hand sanitizers), the team of Sisters also conducted COVID prevention/awareness sessions in the camp leaning on printed In Our Hands posters in English and Hausa, to guide the session and conversations. “The Sisters were happy to receive financial support to serve the remote IDP communities. Meet Vaida, Fatianca, and Querida 👋 These women are a few of the local farmers who have worked with us for many years planting coffee on Mount Gorongosa.⁠ ⁠ Vaida (left) has been with us for ten years, first as a volunteer in the rainforest reforestation project and later helping to shape the #GorongosaCoffee initiative. ⁠ ⁠ From the start, she was clear that a reforestation initiative would only be successful if it also helped local farmers feed their families. The answer, it turns out, was coffee!⁠ ⁠ Vaida was hired to run the coffee and native tree nursery at the top of Mount Gorongosas waterfall. Photo by @eva.colomer As we were driving to the north east of Uganda, in the Karamojong area, we happened to stop at a little group of houses by the bumpy road. After negociating with the local chief who was dressed in the most bizarre attaire possible ( a sort of military jacket and matching cap) , we agreed to camp next to the houses. The curiosity was mutual, obviously. Slowly, slowly came the children, then some older boys and some women, too. They were as fascinated by our “houses” which were ready in 10 minutes, as we were by their looks. Amazing experience. The next morning, just as I peeped out of my tend, I caught them standing there, as if they had been waiting for me all night. The Karamojong or Karimojong are a Nilotic ethnic group. They are agro-pastoral herders living mainly in the north-east of Uganda. Their language is also known as Karamojong or Karimojong and is part of the Nilotic language family. The main livelihood activity of the Karamojong is herding livestock, which has social and cultural importance. Crop cultivation is a secondary activity, undertaken only in areas where it is practicable. Due to the arid climate of the region, the Karamojong have always practised a sort of pastoral transhumance, where for 3–4 months in a year, they move their livestock to the neighboring districts in search of water and pasture for their animals. Certainly, the current global pandemic has brought forth the extent to which we are all connected, existing in an intricate ecosystem, where the health of one component - from climate, to habitat, to plant and wildlife - impacts the other. More than ever, this year has zeroed in on the significant role that conserving biodiversity plays in human health. ... Beyond the obvious benefits (food security, safe water, clean air, ecotourism etc) scientists are now finding that a healthy environment may be a key factor in avoiding future pandemics! How? For starters, the less the encroachment into natural habitats, the less the risk of transmitting disease between species. (PS. the transmission mechanisms of the corona-virus is not yet certain, but research indicates that it is a zoonotic disease.) The bottom line is that ecological instability impacts the resilience of every species. …… Yet, nature is declining and species facing extinction. For example, the size of wildlife population has decreased by two-thirds since 1970. Intact forest land decreased by 7 percent from the year 2000 to 2013. That’s the equivalent of 36,000 football fields every day for 13 years! How does such erosion impact human wellbeing? The answer is immensely. ... Communities and their sustainability is a catalyst to conservation. And vice versa. This is the Lewa model. 17 community water projects, giving over 2000 people access to clean water. 400 small scale farmers trained on sustainable agriculture in the past 6 years. This last week has been an experience I will never forget 😍 I now know why Malawi is called the heart of Africa ❤️ . I’ve never smiled so much but at the same time been at a loss for parents & children who have so little (despite their generosity & big smiles). These feeding programmes make such a huge difference in these children’s lives, for most of the children it can be their only meal of the day. Through @onefeedstwo and @mindfulchefuk the meals we donate really do help these families every single day. . From being a human climbing frame to sharing porridge with Stellia (who’s the same age as Sienna) I have memories that will last a lifetime. We may be on the other side of the 🌍but we’ve seen in person the positive impact we can have. . Back in April, we launched the Angaza Project, Kakenyas Dreams emergency response to the COVID-19 crisis. Through the Angaza Project, we deliver care packages containing vital supplies including food, feminine hygiene products, study materials, and solar lights and radios for distance learning to each of our students households. In May, we distributed the first round of care packages to our girls and their families. Another round of care packages was distributed in July, and our third round of distributions is happening now! The most humbling and heartwarming experience. A visit to the beautiful country of Malawi where @mindfulchefuk has donated over 1.2million school meals via our charity partner @onefeedstwo - for every meal we sell, we donate one to a child in poverty. Et la famille Traore sest agrandie chaque année un peu plus avec les proches dAdama, ses amis, ses voisins, son quartier, les Beaumontois.. Do your children miss school? Mine miss their friends. On Island of Promise our students miss their friends but they miss their school too. Two years ago, there was no affordable school. They miss being at school. They miss their teacher too. Could their teacher reach them via the Internet? Not in villages where phone signal is limited, and Internet connection is too expensive for most to afford. Here’s how our school on the Island of Promise combine distant learning and face-to-face teaching. The students take turns attending school one day a week. Every teaching session at the school has a maximum of four students and a teacher. Teachers follow-up with a face to face session in the student’s home. The teachers prepare and send lessons ahead to the parents so everyone can work together to support the students’ learning at home. Aside from preparing materials for home study, our teachers are working hard to keep the physical class vibrant, colorful, and interesting to stimulate learning. They want the children to feel welcomed and motivated when they visit their classroom. “I really miss my classroom, there’s no way to replace being at school because there are lots of fun games there,” said one student. For students with special needs and families who are limited in providing distance learning facilities at home, their children are allowed to spend more private time with their teachers at school. The school is also applying a new protocol which includes washing hands regularly and wearing masks during face-to-face sessions to avoid the spread of any viruses. What a wonderful way to close out the end of September. Grateful for what we have been able to provide to the community and families this week. A nutritious meal of rice, beans and stewed chicken. Roatán throughout the last decade has seen a boom in tourism. An estimated 1.6 million tourists visit Roatán each year. In spite of all of this travel, Honduras remains one of the poorest countries in the Americas. Roatán sees a majority of its economic input from cruise ships. Touristic trends of the past had a huge economic impact on Roatán. There was a decline in visitors during the worldwide outbreak of influenza H1N1 in 2009. Despite this economic downturn Roatán will still able to generate money from tourism in the past. We do not know the full impact of this most recent epidemic on local economies. Alice, a mother of three, was violently attacked by her partner of 10 years after she asked him for money to buy food for their children. This was not the first time he had been violent towards her, but this time she reported him.⁣⁣ ⁣ IJM supported her through the prosecution, and the man who abused her pleaded guilty.⁣⁣ ⁣ Now, Alice is able to take care of her children on her own, and her focus is on building a good future. IJM helped her get a job at a local dairy, and she’s teaching her children what she believes a relationship between a man and woman should look like.⁣⁣ ⁣ In Northern Uganda, where Alice grew up, nearly 95.9% of women surveyed reported that violence against women and girls is happening in their communities (according to an IJM- UNDP report in 2019)⁣⁣ ⁣ “There will be a time when men will stop beating up their wives,” she said. “I see a future where men come to learn that even women have rights.” - @ijm on Instagram

It takes $60 to feed 30 children a well nourished big plate of food for one day in Roatan. Roatan may very well be one of the friendliest places in the world. The common phrases “Buenas” or “Mornin” can be heard in the streets at every corner of the island from those living in Roatan and even from travelers. It’s common to be greeted by strangers in Roatan and to become accustomed to this. The culture of “ Buenas” makes Roatan one of the best places to travel and to live. The islanders have lived together biculturally in harmony. “Mornin’ “ is a greeting half of them say and “Buenos” from the other half depending on heritage. I think this is a wonderful practice and it’s not surprising if you consider the fact that Roatan is an interesting collection of different cultures. Though Roatan is not small the communities there are. This creates a level of comfort despite different cultures, colors and contradictions. Next time your traveling in your own area consider taking a lesson from the culture of Buenas and sharing a smile with a stranger or even a “Hello”. Though in western culture it is not common place to greet strangers; maybe embracing that friendlier side of ourselves will provide some comfort and help strengthen local communities during these difficult times.
