Im Malina, dietitian and single mom of 3, specializing in nutrition for moms, babies and kids 💕⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ One of the most frequent concerns I see in my DMs is that baby is resisting the high chair and not interested in food or mealtime.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ While there can be a few reasons why this might be the case, it can sometimes happen because of over-cleaning during meals - one of the top feeding mistakes parents and caregivers often make.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Dont get me wrong - I know first-hand how incredibly messy baby-led weaning and feeding babies generally is!⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ ✖️But the face is a sensitive, personal area, and having it wiped frequently with cold, wet wipes or washcloths can be a pretty negative sensory experience. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ ✖️Same goes for face-scraping with spoons.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ ✖️What we dont want is for baby to start associating these negative sensory experiences with food and mealtime.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Heres what can help: ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ ✔️Wait to clean baby until the end of the meal⁠⠀ ✔️Take the activity of cleaning up away from the high chair and over to the sink, tub or another neutral area so that baby doesnt associate cleaning with feeding and the chair⁠⠀ ✔️Use warm, damp, soft cloths to clean baby or pop baby right into the tub⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Do you have specific questions about feeding your baby?
