@insertastronamehere blowing us away with the sharpest details weve seen!!! Great job! Keep up the great work! Lunar Sunrise Crater Aristarchus (top) and Kepler (bot r) from Saturday morning. The lunar surface was processed using masking and dodge/burn techniques to really emphasize the ray systems of each crater. The color was taken from the full disk image of the Moon I posted the other day by overlapping the images together, aligning the craters precisely, and blending them together. These craters, along with a handful of others, are part of the Copernican Period of Lunar Geography which runs from approximately 1.1 billion years ago to the present day. The base of the Copernican period is defined by impact craters that possess bright optically immature ray systems. Enjoy! #moon_of_the_day #rsa_night #milkywaychasers #moonphoto #astronomy #astrophoto #space #astrophotography #opteam #nightsky #solarsystem #skymasters #cosmos #ig_nightphotography #stargazing #telescope #universetoday #moonphotography #moonphases #celestron #spacephoto #natgeospace #Igtexas #nikonusa #likeabos - @optcorp on Instagram

Jupiter by Juno . Image credit & Copyright: NASA / SwRI / MSSS / Gerald Eichstädt / Seán Doran . Juno is a NASA spacecraft. It is exploring the planet Jupiter. The Juno spacecraft launched aboard an Atlas V (Atlas “5”) rocket in August 2011. It reached Jupiter in 2016. That was a five-year trip! The name Juno comes from stories told by the Romans long ago. In the stories, Juno was the wife of Jupiter. Jupiter hid behind clouds so no one could see him causing trouble. But Juno could see through the clouds. . And the Juno spacecraft can see through the clouds of the planet Jupiter. Juno is helping scientists study Jupiter. What they learn will help us understand how Jupiter and other planets began. . The spacecraft did not land. Juno is called an orbiter. This kind of spacecraft flies around, or orbits, a planet. Juno will orbit Jupiter 37 times in all. Juno will orbit Jupiters north and south poles for about one year. One trip around Jupiter takes Juno about 14 days. Juno has science tools to study Jupiters atmosphere. (The atmosphere is the layer of gases around a planet.) Juno will take the first pictures of Jupiters poles. The spacecraft will study the lights around Jupiters north and south poles, too. Juno gets its power from the sun. The spacecraft has three large solar panels around its six-sided body. . Juno will help scientists understand how Jupiter was made. The spacecraft will help them learn how Jupiter has changed, too. The new discoveries can help us understand more about our solar system. (Source: NASA) - @timeless_universe on Instagram

On sol 5352 (12-Feb-2019), NASAs Opportunity Rover was retired from service after not sending any receivable transmissions since sol 5111 (10-Jun-18). It landed at Meridiani Planum on 25-Jan-2004 and explored 28.06mi/45.16km during its 14 year, 46 day (Earth time) service period- ~55x its designed 90-sol lifetime. Contrary to belief, Opportunity is not dead, but rather waiting to be collected and put into a museum for future generations to observe. Photo credit:NASA - @marscuriosity on Instagram

Follow @galaxy.echoes Can you see the largest volcano in the solar system? 🌋 I’ll help you.. the dark “dot” in the upper right (north east) region of the planet is Olympus Mons. The largest known volcano which has the size of Arizona (in diameter). In comparison, Hawaiis Mauna Loa, the tallest volcano on Earth, rises 6.3 miles (10 km) above the sea floor (but its peak is only 2.6 miles above sea level). The volume contained by Olympus Mons is about a hundred times that of Mauna Loa, and the Hawaiian island chain that houses the Earthly volcano could fit inside its Martian counterpart. Olympus Mons rises three times higher than Earths highest mountain, Mount Everest, whose peak is 5.5 miles above sea level. Jupiter. This magnificent gas giant is one of the most spectacular planets in our solar system. Covered in constantly changing swirls and stripes, Jupiter changes from hour to hour. On the bottom right is the iconic Great Red Spot. This fierce storm has raged for centuries, and is actually three times larger than the diameter of Earth! My lockdown obsession has been learning how to photograph the planets. Creating an image like this required combining almost 80,000 images shot over a 15 minute period, with nearly 100GB of data! Phosphine found in Venus atmosphere! Phosphine is considered a biomarker which are natural products that can be traced to a particular biological origin. This is VERY exciting because we will get to explore how the Phosphine originated and learn more about the mysteries of the Universe. This is also a gentle reminder that we are currently living in the geocentric model of the extraterrestrial question. This too will be superseded. In our favor and, likely, in our lifetime. Exciting times! #Venus - @tsoukalos on Instagram

“Originality is the thing.”- Lester Young “Hello, I’m Prabal Saxena, an early-career researcher who studies exoplanets, ocean worlds and habitability. A lot of astronomers are obsessed with water. I certainly am, and so are a bunch of scientists I work with. When we think about other planets, we ask so many questions about water that it almost seems a little unhealthy. The biggest one we ask is, “does the water on this planet exist in a way which may support life?” “One thing I’ve been thinking about more recently is how different “ocean worlds” can be. The inestimable jazz player Lester Young wasn’t talking about planets then, but really nailed it when he said ‘originality is the thing.’ Just check out this first image of Pluto, a dwarf planet.” “This second image is just a sample of ocean worlds that I put together. It shows how different these places can be. These objects are all real images (taken either by NASA missions/observatories or the Gemini Planet Imager) of planets taken with no enhancement of colors. “Without knowing anything about these planets, you can already tell they are each incredibly unique.” “Some of these worlds are basically atmosphere-less ice balls with oceans buried underneath (like Europa or Enceladus), while others are shrouded in thick or multi-layered haze dominated atmospheres (like Titan and Pluto). The surface and oceans are all different too! “ “Some are believed to be really briny or may have other compounds that act as ‘anti-freezes’ (like on Ceres or Pluto). Others have evidence of recent activity on the surface that suggest that an underlying ocean is modifying the surface (Triton). “Some even have living things consuming, swimming in and surfing on the water like our own planet. “ “Finally, there are those planets where we are only just beginning to glimpse their features with current observations, like Eris and exoplanets. As we get more detailed observations of these and other worlds in the future, I’m sure we’ll continue to be surprised and amazed at these original worlds.” Image credits: NASA/Apollo 17, NASA/JPL/University of Arizona, NASA/JPL-Caltech/Space Science Institute, NASA/JPL-Caltech/Space Science - @nasagoddard on Instagram

#arqueología #colecciones #muarse #archivofotográficomuarse #Andacollo #Inka #Chile #archaeology #museo #LaSerena #museum #Elqui #Limarí #terrazas #inca - @muarse on Instagram

The human species is going into lock-down mode. Self-quarantine for a species that is magic and hyper destructive. Let’s use this moment to recalibrate, to reflect and to become aware of our fragility, of beauty and of the time we have left to change the way we live on this wondersome planet, this gift of a home. Let’s use this moment to develop a Masterplan for the massive challenges we created: Climate Change, Plastic Pollution, Agricultural Run-off, Overfishing. It’s a great moment to reset, to end the ‘Toxic Age’ and to drive what we at @parley.tv call the ‘Material Revolution’. Individually and professionally. For the Oceans, Climate and Life. Thank you planet for the warning shot. And the patience you are having with us. - @cyrillgutsch on Instagram

Amazing shot of Saturn & our Moon 🌚😍. On the morning of May 14, 2014, the dance of the solar system brought together two unlikely partners: our Moon, and Saturn. As the Moon orbits the Earth, it makes a circle in the sky every month, and as Saturn orbits the Sun it too follows a circular but different path around our sky. ⁣⁣. . ✔For more ️, tag a friends 👥, like the post🖤 & Share with Spacelovers . . ➡️Follow:@isro.official.in ➡️Follow:@isro.official.in . . 🔷Hastags: 👇👇 #Galaxies #Planet #Planets #Moon #Galaxy #NASA#Spacex #Hubble #Space #Science #Scientist #Sciences#Astronomy #Universe #Galaxiesways #Telescope#Cosmos #Nebula #Supernova #Blackhole #Star #Stars#Astrology #Physics #Astronaut #Astrophysics#Astronomer #Elonmusk #Nature #Memes - @isro.official.in on Instagram

Earthrise | William Anders, 1968 The photograph that changed the world. I first saw this photograph in 1999, minutes before we hit the year 2000, on a TV program that was probably showing the greatest pictures of the last millennia. It was shot on the Apollo 8 mission, and was the first time humanity saw their place in the Universe, through a high quality color image. It sparked a global movement, and brought the world together in watchfulness and care for our fragile galactic spaceship. Environmental awareness was never the same again. We had finally seen our home. This Earth Day, I want to share this iconic image, along with a few that I have shot, in the brief parts of the Earth that Ive been lucky to see, to remind us again of the beauty of our world. The Covid-19 pandemic has made all of us much more cognizant of the liberties we enjoyed and abused, without regards to consequences. Today, in this unprecedented crisis, while we sit at home as a global family, and wonder and reflect, the tiny vulnerable blue ball we call home recovers from the damage we inflicted on it. Lets hope that when we rejoin it, we bring our new perspective with us, and treat it in better ways than we did before. #covid_19 #pandemic #EarthDay #Earthrise #coronavirus #quarantine #billanders - @alampanah on Instagram
