I touched on this a bit in my post yesterday, but I want to take it a little further today. ⁣ ⁣ One framework I like to use, and I’ll be sharing more about in The Work of Healing Anxiety, is this one shown here. ⁣ ⁣ Every time we are anxious - there are three points of entry to provide some soothing or restore calm. ⁣ ⁣ 1. The mind — we can use our thoughts to remind ourselves we are okay, and we’re safe.⁣ 2. The body — we can physically move energy through us (movement) or create a sense of safety by soothing ourselves physically. ⁣ 3. The emotions — we can check in with our emotional selves and explore what other feelings might be present beneath the anxiety that need to be addressed as well. ⁣ ⁣ Sometimes when we’re trapped in a loop of being anxious all the time it can feel frustrating and defeating… but so often we’re not actually working with our anxiety from all angles. There’s more to it than just trying to change your thoughts. ⁣ ⁣ The Work of Healing Anxiety starts on October 5th. We’ll be deep diving into all of this. Happy Monday! Let’s talk about anxiety ⚡️ What isn’t talked about enough is that just as any other symptom or health related issue that arises, with anxiety our body is speaking to us. Whether your anxiety is brought on by specific stressors or seems to be non specific and ever present, there is a health picture painted inside your body and accompanied by other symptoms. There is ALWAYS a root cause. This is not everything but a great deal of the root causes (likely a combination of what is listed above) contributing to your experience of magnified and prolonged anxiety that doesn’t seem to end or be alleviated. I went through a whole host of prescription anxiety medications when I was a kid and to no avail did they “heal me”. My pediatrician never spoke about things as these root causes. I always felt there was something inherently wrong with me which I know our health care system has a habit of doing to many of us! And let me tell you this is simply not the case... you are a beautiful and extraordinary human and it is your INHERENT RIGHT to feel healthy and achieve the picture of health you desire. Once I learned to HEAL the root causes of my symptoms, I feel like a million bucks. While working on all of these things, I woke up one day and the anxiety just seemed to disappear. Remember though it is not that simple and this is a healing PROCESS. What I can tell you is that there are so many little things in your life that may seem minuscule that are definitely contributing to your anxiety. Overall four major things are true in terms of lessons we can learn from the body when it comes to anxiety... 🤍The body is experiencing inflammation in some way shape or form somewhere or everywhere. 🤍The body is deficient in proper sleep, various nutrients and minerals. (If you want to learn something really cool and important google the “glymphatic system” newer research your brain’s way of clearing out toxins during sleep and highly connected to disease pathology) 🤍The body is stressed and overstimulated due to routine or major life stressors. 🤍The gut, endocrine system, or any other major organ or organ system is disrupted. - @theholistic.honey on Instagram

Please know you do not need to save calories or macros. Mother’s Day is very difficult for me. Devastating, actually. I’m not sure I’ve ever opened up about it but I’ve been owning and sharing more of my story more each day. My trauma, my voice, my story. Period. I have very mixed emotions leading up to Mother Day. I’ve been a Motherless Mother by choice for 16 years, I have little to no support from my other parent, I’m the oldest of six kids myself, but I am the ONLY parent among us. I’ve dealt with nothing but criticisms and judgements and ‘we know better than you’ my entire motherhood journey. I’m the only one breaking cycles and healing and growing. With zero help or support. (This isn’t about being a martyr. It’s just the truth.) Yet, I am a bitch for speaking up, changing the ‘way it’s always been done’, and being firm in my boundaries. While it’s necessary to do this work - it isn’t satisfying or rewarding. We don’t get a pat on the back being the cycle breaker in our families. We get scrutinized. We get gossiped about. We get judged. We get hurt. A lot. I feel very lonely in this motherhood journey most of the time. To not only be raising six humans, but also being the generational cycle breaker, with no familial support - it’s way past overwhelming - it feels impossible. Yet, I (we) take it on every single day because it’s that important to me (us). I’m in a phase of my journey where I’m beyond exhausted by continuing to love and care for people whom do not love and care for me. What do we do? We grieve. We grieve the lost potential - oh the lost potential. 😔 We grieve being forced to set boundaries and the backlash from that. We grieve when we let go of relationships that we wish we didn’t have to. We grieve. Over and over again. Doing the right thing is rarely the fun or popular or rewarding thing. We do it anyways. I’m sharing this for myself and any of you in similar situations. We don’t owe them - the people who hurt or hinder us - anything anymore. In fact, them thinking we do; that is the problem. You aren’t the problem, they are. #ibattlewithyou ⁣ ⁣ I remember being incredibly anxious even back in my premed days - I’d worry about tests and grades and whether or not I’d be able to fill the requirements of my program in order to move on to medical school. ⁣ ⁣ Things got worse after I matriculated and failed my first medical school exam. My anxiety was in full force after that - every time I sat down for an exam, I was battling panic and doubting my every move. The amount of information we were learning was overwhelming and studying it, in itself for me, was very isolating. I struggled a lot that first year, and I fully believed I was struggling alone - in my head I compared myself to everyone in my class and I had a hard time believing I even deserved my seat among my colleagues. ⁣ ⁣ The turning point for me was starting counseling. My counselor helped me work through the worst of my anxiety and depression, and eventually, I started talking about it - with friends, to small groups of classmates, to mentors. I was really taken by surprise at how many people told me they had felt the same way - I couldn’t believe that people I’d sat next to for entire lectures felt the same way I did, were struggling in the same ways. I think it’s so incredible important to normalize talking about mental health because guess what:⁣ ⁣ Healthcare providers are human too. ⁣ ⁣ & You don’t have to be perfect. ⁣ & You don’t have to struggle alone. ⁣ I completely agree with @drstephanydo, you can have mental health issues and still be a high functioning healthcare provider. ⁣ ⁣ We have to start normalizing this discussion. Because though medicine is an incredibly rewarding and diverse field to be a part, in no way is it easy on the members that make up its team. There are incredible resources that exist to help, and asking for that help shouldn’t be stigmatized - it should be as normal as treating any other medical condition.⁣ ⁣ YOU ARE NOT ALONE.⁣ YOU MATTER. SLEEP AND ITS IMPORTANCE Sleep is a natural reoccurring event in our daily lives, that we all need to do to function adequately. When you reach adulthood, you’ll mostly need 6-9 hours each night and to do this efficiently as possible you should have a regular routine with the same bedtime and wake-up time every day. Although this can be difficult and doesn’t happen for most people, it’s important to stick to it as best as you can. Having naps during the day in order to feel better always feels like a good idea but it can disrupt your sleep routine if done on a regular basis. We need sleep to help our body repair, improve learning and memory, reduce our stress and anxiety levels, improve our creativity, support our growth and development and for many more reasons that are so important to a healthy life. Having less sleep than required can actually lead to weight gain, serious illnesses such as diabetes and strokes, increased anxiety and depression, other mental health problems, bad decisions that haven’t been thought through, headaches and bad moods or mood swings. This not only affects your life but also everyone else’s around you. It’s easier to get irritated with friends and family which can create issues and fallouts that could have been avoided!Ways to get better sleep include having a warm bath to wind down, having a set bedtime routine, having a healthy lifestyle regarding drugs and alcohol, avoiding caffeinated drinks in the late evening and having a comfortable bed with comfortable bedding. If you ever need help getting more sleep you can visit websites such as the NHS one that gives excellent tips, go to sleep therapists, clinics or even be advised on sleeping medication. Some struggle more than others even if it seems like a simple task... minds can be hard to shut off at times making it impossible to be peaceful and restful. Okay, so I am awful at scheduling.. I always give myself way too much to do and never want to say no to people which in turn leads to this bad boy - a creative burnout. Burnouts can feel like the absolute end of the world. I always lose sight of what I’m actually doing, can’t think of any creative ideas and basically just lose the motivation. One reason this happens is because I don’t give myself time to breathe. Scheduling yourself days away from work is just as important as the days you schedule FOR work. I’ve found treating your work as being a 9-5 job helps, taking the weekends off where possible. To some people (like me) that sounds ridiculous especially when it comes to the likes of video editing/photo editing, but honestly, it will help you be so much more productive in the days and times you are scheduled to work. Don’t say yes to everything if it is going to add stress and problems. I know well what it’s like to want to take on everything and anything for that coin but if it isn’t going to help fuel your passion for your work and only add more hassle, then why put yourself through it? I was working at a “dream job” when I started to spiritually wake up. I was 23 years old at the time, making upwards of 6 figures working for a utility company. I thought that I had really “made it.” But something felt like it was missing from my life. I was driving in my in my work truck one day and I heard this voice start speaking to me. There was no one else in the truck with me and I thought “am I going crazy? Who the hell is that talking to me?” I just kept hearing the words “Jake it’s time to wake up and get to work.” I thought “I am already at work what do you mean get to work?” The voice kept getting louder and louder... As the days went on, I started questioning everything that I had been conditioned to believe. I felt like most everything I had been taught was a lie and designed to keep me in a system so I would stay “asleep.” I spent most of my life operating in ego consciousness.
