[Beth] After 25 years in front of a classroom, a whole life of being theatrical, and years of being labeled an outgoing human, Im re-learning that I am at core an introvert—and thats not incompatible with being a people-person. The good news is that Ive been surprisingly happy and mellow in our relative isolation. Granted, I have my best friend-husband here with me (and he is ALL the extrovert I need), but its been surprising how little Ive missed the physical presence of other people and how actually relieved I was to be able to mark off dozens of volunteer and entertainment commitments from my calendar. I DO miss being able to jump on a plane to see my grandkids in Maine and my granddog in L.A., but with FaceTime and Zoom, were staying in touch, and knowing everyone is safe is comforting. Its been nice to find out that Im OK with a simpler life! 😊 [John] Sheltering in place has LITERALLY changed my perspective. I find that I miss seeing the lower half of peoples faces since we are wearing masks. I am used to being able to assess the patients frame of mind as soon as I enter the exam room (using the whole face) so I can make statements that are most likely to result in reassurance to the patient. I looked up the 21 emotional expressions of the human face that are generally agreed on by Psychologists and found that 17 or 18 of them are characterized mostly by the positions of muscles around the mouth, jaw, and cheeks. Only a handful require the forehead. Thus we have a lot to communicate using some other method. I realized that the patients cant see my face either, so they dont know what I am thinking. Whats really weird is to see a new patient with masks. Anyway, I have had to depend more on the tone of voice, body language, sitting position, and arm movements to figure out the level of a patients discomfort. How about that? - @henrikmeng on Instagram

Grateful for moments like this ❤️ . Over the weekend I was fortunate enough to be able to take my 94year old grandfather out of the home for a beer 🍺. Yesterday we spent time at our family tree. We get to watch this tree grow instead of our child. But having it is a comfort and its gotten so big- pretty amazing. Every year feels different, yet the trauma of the loss still feels raw. Silas impacted so many lives in his brief life. If it only allows you to stop for a moment and truly realize what is most important. We know how precious life is and today more then ever make changes in your priorities. I’m not a Momma’s Boy, I’m a Grandma’s Boy. This photo was taken when I saw her for the first time in years after my transition...I was scared for her to see me. Not because I was ashamed of who I am, but because I was worried how she would react. I swear to you she didn’t even bat an eye. She smiled and hugged me and said she loves me. That blew my mind...although we had our differences at the beginning of my transition, which lead to a few years of not speaking...now we speak every week! SO in honor of Mother’s Day I want to shoutout my grandma. My grandma who now uses male pronouns, my grandma who tells me she loves me every time she talks to me, my grandma who makes me feel like I have a part of my childhood back when she randomly tells me stories from when I was young. I called my old man from Canada in June 2013 to wish him a happy Father’s Day the conversation went somewhat like this. “G’DAAAYY MORI!” “BARNEY RUBBLE! HAHHA HOW ARE YA COBBA?“ “YEAH NAH I AM GOOD COBBA” (we always yelled our greetings) “What ya up ta, Rubble?” “Not a whole lot Mori. Just giving ya a buzz to wish you a Happy Father’s Day ey!” “FUCK! IS IT SEPTEMBER ALREADY BARNEY?” He lowers the phone..“BLUEY! GODDARD! IS IT SEPTEMBER ALREADY?” “Naahhh it’s June isn’t it?”- Goddard “Fuck’tiff I know cobba” - Bluey. “It’s June Barney, Father’s Day is in September fuck ya, you tripped me out man!” He laughed so hard he was out of breath. That’s when I learned Father’s Day in North America is different from Australia. We had a good convo and a laugh anyway and then I called him back in September! The second photo is of my step dad Joe, (Vap, Fatty) This was one of the most special times we ever spent together. I had this project for school where I had to complete a community cooking lesson. As part of my culinary certificate. Our friend @trojanpencil had organised a national live fire camp oven cooking competition, it was a big deal! He had asked Joe and I to do a traditional urdlu (kangaroo) in the ashes. Joe had the idea “If you were gunna teach a mob of wudnus how to cook, might as well teach em how we do it!” And there we were, cooking Urdlu. The proper way. In the ground. It was magical. Conversations with two dads that will forever be a memory on Father’s Day. 2020 has been a wild ride so far, and there is no one I’d rather be navigating the ups, downs and hair-pin turns with than @jorisvandendaele My world changed drastically with leaving behind a life I’ve built in Costa Rica over the last 5.5 years, and fully submersing myself into not just life back in Canada but life with a partner, and two kids! Both our businesses came to grinding halts. While the chaos and stress of the world could have torn us apart over the last few months it’s only brought us closer together. We’ve pivoted together, and we’ve been co-creating fun projects and it’s been super fun and rewarding. Not without its challenges, of course, but we’ve come to learn how well we work together . We’ve combined our individual strengths, and we are so aligned in our values, ethics and mission that it makes these tremulous times easier to navigate. I’m deeply proud of Joris and the way he stepped up to do what it takes to support his family. It’s beautiful to witness him confidently stand up and do what needs to be done.
