John Jenkin is well known as the AGAman - even the licence of his (not so) trusty van says so. John has been servicing AGAs for almost 30 years, and has travelled more than a million kilometres all over the country - even out to north of Alice Springs (I wouldnt have thought anyone would want a hot cast iron stove going 24/7 in one of the hottest parts of Australia, but apparently they do!). I first met John when we bought our AGA in late 2018, and our 50 year old oven proved to need some repeated visits to get her working reliably. With his retirement imminent, I knew I had to get some pics and document his career before he hung up his tools for good. So I went and visited his house on the outskirts of Melbourne (this is his 1961 stove in the first pic- which he never turns off, even in summer. When I asked if he got too hot, he said he just took his dinner and ate outside!). I also visited the owner of AGA Australia, Simone Blamey, and spent some time in Johns tool shed poking around all the old AGA parts. Now John has officially retired, and passed the baton onto someone else to continue this specialised job. Once Covid passes, hell get back in his van and go out and see the few parts of our vast country that he hasnt travelled to yet. A lovely visit to The Drawing Room, @drawing_room_gallery a jewel of a gallery located in East Hampton. Many of the local artists that have been drawn to the East End for generations are included in this 2 part exhibition “Painting Place.” Above is Fairfield Porter’s beautiful still life painted in 1963 and recalls a Hamptons morning from a bygone era. The milk carton is from a local dairy that no longer exists and the flowers are late summer Zinnia Blossoms. This beauty made the cover of Art News in 1964. Geeeeeej. My brother. My dawg. I went through War with you. Did everything with you since I was 12 years old. Soon as we met we were instant brothers. I can’t process this feeling still. No amount of tears can express the pain I’m in from this. You were my best friend Geej. Me and sterling cried all morning and can’t seem to bring this into reality. The last convo we had was him coming to see Matteo... coming to see his God son that he checked on constantly. Constantly asking how he was doing. And it really hurts i never got to see my brother again. He never got to see his God son again... i never got to speak to my brother for the last time. We get busy with life and take the ppl we love for granted thinking they will always be here.. thinking that time isn’t a factor.. I can’t even express how I truly feel. I wish I could have spoke to him and seen him once last time. We got busy with life and took that time for granted.. we never truly know what we have until it’s gone. He wasn’t suppose to go. Not like this. I wish i could reverse time to his last moments. I sit and think is there anything i could have done to prevent this but i had to realize this was God’s timing.. he took his strongest angel from all the suffering on earth. Spring is more than just in the air. Hard to put in words how happy this apparently simple @pigeonholecafewesthobart dish makes us. No fuss, no garnish, and confidence in the kitchen that the ingredients need no embellishments. Some of the first for this season @westonfarm asparagus and fromage blanc @peter_cooksley made using excess froth from the coffee making process. Who knew? Fortunately @colejwood who generously shared his knowledge with Pete. And at the side is a small bowl of yoghurt from the same source - we sampled the first batch and it’s a big 👍. The second photo is a PSA that gummy shark kedgeree has made a welcome return to the specials board (PS Pete - this should really migrate to the printed menu if the fish supply is reliable enough. UPDATE:: THE CAT HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!! (& is being taken to a vet first). Thanks so much everyone for the help and for sharing ❤️❤️❤️ . . . I found this cat in my area of bed stuy yesterday. It was in a plastic bag, and had been abandoned, along with some cat food next to the trash can. 😢 This cat is obviously used to having a home and is not feral. Its soooooo sweet and friendly!! I was able to pick it up and carry it back to house in my arms! I unfortunately cannot keep the cat because of my other cats and feel bad that its currently locked in my basement bathroom. (With food, water, and a litterbox.) Does anyone want a cat or know of any organizations that can help me find this sweetie a home? Note: I am not trained in TNR, rescuing cats, etc, and just knew that I had to help out this darling! So any advice is appreciated. 🖤 - @healanick on Instagram

What do you do with the things that no longer give you joy? I have been really trying to make my home a cozy place during this quarantine by burning candles, finally hanging curtains in our living room, tweaking and rearranging some of my collected items, and making a honey do list of things I’d like to accomplish. When we moved in I frantically pulled everything together before the holidays, but then I slowed down in the new year. With all that is going on in the world, making my home in to what I want it to be is a nice distraction and makes me feel good and we all can use a little bit of that right now. - Diagnosed with kidney disease in 2018, my sweet girl fought so hard until the very end. Over 16 years of love and friendship. She helped me through my dad’s death so this is extra rough with her gone. But I would like to think she is with him now and they are hanging out again.

Let’s chat about giving & friendships. Tuesday morning I received some surprise deliveries 🧁s + 🌵, gifts from some of my favourite women (who clearly know me well!). We were supposed to all get together in May since we didn’t have a chance to do a bachelorette before I got married, but that didn’t happen either because, 2020😅. Instead the girls organized a zoom date full of fun little surprises. It made me feel so loved and special. I’m so grateful for them (y’all know who you are ❤️❤️❤️). All this to say: * Take any chance you can to make your loved ones feel special. * It’s the small gestures that mean the most. * When it comes to friendships: quality quantity. * Great friendships are the ones that you can always pickup where you left off - even when it’s been a minute. Those are the real ones. Gestures like these also remind me to be better. I say this because it makes me think back on all the times I’ve thought of giving a friend or family member a gift just because, or gifting to someone I don’t normally consistently gift to, and then either got busy and didn’t follow through or got stumped on what to gift. I feel like gifts shouldn’t just be for holidays, birthdays, etc. sometimes the best gifts are the spontaneous ones that you buy because it reminded you of that person. Also, maybe it’s just me, but sometimes there’s a mentality of “they don’t give me gifts on “x” occasion so I don’t have to buy for them either. Giving is supposed to come from the heart though, so that really doesn’t make sense to me when I think about it. Give freely. ***A gift also doesn’t have to be material. Gift someone your time by helping them with whatever they need - watch their kids, help them move or clean, cook for them or with them, etc. Even just spending the day with them when they need it. Giving to others without expecting anything in return is selfless and is such a great feeling - there’s nothing better than making someone’s day by showing you care 💛.
