The sun was setting and a massive south swell was smashing against the sharp reef beneath our toes. We decided to walk on the reef and see how close we could get to the waves. Every time we saw this massive wall of white water flying towards us, we could feel the ground shake. The sheer size of the waves were terrifying, but the reef always acted as a barrier and protected us. My mate Malo doesn’t have Instagram but just know, this man is quite the legend. As consumers, our connection to the products we buy is limited to the time they are in use by us. We have no access to what happens before we buy the product or after we have disposed of it. This makes us removed from the effects of our consumption patterns on the planet. Out of sight, out of mind right? This is how the linear system keeps consumers socially programmed but we truly believe that this pandemic, as horrific it has been, has uncovered critical issues that needs urgent addressing. 🍃 A predicted rise in consumption volumes could push carbon emissions to around 2.7 billion metric tons a year by 2030. However, if the industry continues to embrace decarbonisation initiatives at its current pace, it will cap emissions at around 2.1 billion metric tons a year by 2030, roughly the same as they are today. The need for that critical levelling has been brought about by the pandemic, as unfortunate as it sounds, but this is our silver lining. I went partly for my own development but also to get footage for the AmpSurf HomeBreak Championship. One the many good things about The Wave is theres always surfable conditions unlike home right now where we are in the middle of an over a week long flat spell. This place is definitely helping me make bing stides in my development and Im super thankful @wavemakernick and his team put it together. I surprised myself as I can go left better than I thought. 2020 is off to a flying start, both for me (my first-ever cover story is in @aircanada seatbacks now!), and for the @csasurfcanada national team athletes, who currently sit 10th in the world and are gearing up for the next qualification event for #tokyo2020, the first Olympic Games to include surfing. In October, I travelled to Tofino to see Canada’s surf capital in action for the annual all-women surf contest @queenofthepeak, and to meet the two Tofino-bred Olympic hopefuls: @mathea_olin and @petedevries. The surf community was beyond welcoming and I was lucky enough to have photographer @marcuspaladino as a local guide and surf interpreter. We use the Idexx system to test for fecal indicator bacteria called enterococcus. We compare our results to the standards set by the California State Water Resources Control Board to provide you with a straightforward snapshot of what our beaches look like each week. ~~~ We are currently seeking out a volunteer to collect samples, weekly, from Cowell’s, Main Beach and the San Lorenzo River Mouth. Reef Check 2017 campaign in Reunion Island, the beginning of it all. 🐠 Three years ago we were dreaming to shoot and film underwater stories. So we looked around, and got involved with the local association we thought was the best, @reefcheckfoundation. We borrowed a camera at work (nobody explicitly gave us the right to 🌝 ), and showed up at their events. We did our best; it was crap. “As free as the ocean” A little story about me: A couple of years ago I lost my freedom, I was trapped by anxiety and panic attacks and let me tell you, it was a devastating thing in my life because I didnt used to worry about anything and just enjoyed life. I was so mad at myself because I was no longer free. I lost my motivation for surfing, soccer and other activities, but especially my life. However, a few years later I can say that I am free again thanks to Him, because I find my rest in Him and trust Him no matter the circumstances. I will live my life for Him, so why should I worry? I will enjoy life to the fullest, be it small or big moments. I’m so blessed that every day I can open my eyes and breathe again and most of all see the people I love the most. We each have a responsibilities while we are here, to protect, be kind to all living beings, and to create positive energy with one another🐝🐳 Plastics overtime will be made into microplastics, they will never break down completely, so . . .. . a way to reuse them for good and reduce the harmful effects in an exposed environment is to make an EcoBrick. Anaerobic Digesters More than 60-70% of the time it will go to a landfill, simply put into a hole in the ground in a city near you. Nature tells us what she needs, we just need to listen.
