We’ve been holding on for dear life through this COVID madness and doing everything we can to stick with all our couples whose weddings have been postponed. More and more couples are throwing up their hands and deciding on small, intimate elopements of sorts. But it’s so special to hone in and appreciate those very few people in your life who are truly a part of your relationship. Only so many people can fit on the boat. I debated whether or not to post about this, and ultimately I decided it would be irresponsible not to. Today while my kids were playing near Belmont Pier, I was approached by someone telling me that a man was staring at my kids. I started to keep an eye on him but he was just kind of sitting there with his hands by his pockets. As I glanced back and forth, I realized he wasnt breaking his gaze while watching my kids. I started to see one of his hands move, but couldnt see exactly what he was doing because I was in the sun and he was in the shade. A bystander leaving the pier walked up and shouted Do you have your dick out while youre staring at these girls? What the fuck? Him and another bystander chased the man as he ran, and they caught up with him several minutes later near the Belmont Pool. I had already ushered the kids home with Jason at this point and went over to the police to give my statement. This is not something I feel good about sharing, and my stomach is turning even as I type this, but I feel an obligation to keep other children safe. This man was masturbating while watching my kids, and Im lucky that I dont think they noticed and theyre too young to know what was happening. My kids were never out of eyesight, and though they ran ahead after we finished lunch, I was next to them as this was happening. Theyre so young that during our outings, my eyes are on them and not as much on our surroundings. Im grateful that nothing else happened, and beyond grateful for the bystanders who helped apprehend this pervert (btw if anyone knows who the bystanders are, let me know so I can send some thank you cards.) I just wanted to share this story because who knows what people are capable of, or how they escalate from masturbating in public to more serious pedophilia crimes. Right now, jails are releasing people to avoid the spread of Covid, but perhaps at the cost of our safety. The Covid19 crisis could have and should have shut us down. Thanks to our incredible community, we forged on, but not with some massive changes. Both personally, and with my business. Our menu is now a greatest hits collection from the past 6 years. Our service is all counter service now, with a selection of amazing local beers, wines, and ciders. . . . Community is even more of a focus now...when I first opened The Table, it was to focus more on being able to spend time with my young daughter, to leave the chef life behind... and I am so grateful to have had the last 6 years as a focused father. But, during the last 6 years, my eyes have been opened to various needs in our community. So, now we have two small, but I hope impactful programs in place. First. SAUCE FOR A CAUSE Simply put its a thing. For every additional sauce added to a meal, we have changed $0.50. All of that money is donated to local charities and organizations. Last year, we donated just over $1700. Secondly, the continuation of PAY-IT-FORWARD program. Simply put, for any meal you buy you can add on a meal for ANY PERSON who needs a meal for $8.00. We will have an Pay it forward menu of soups, fish and chips, and taco available for any person who needs a meal. We started this program for health care workers during the beginning stages of Covid19...we were able to help provide 100s of meals for hard working health care workers, as the need has declined we now feel it is time to change focus to anyone who needs a meal. Effective today, the City of Huntington Beach will be reopening our beaches and beach bike pathway for active recreation only. The decision to reopen the beaches in Surf City was made after extensive discussions with other local area cities and State representatives, including those at the California Natural Resources Agency and the California Department of Parks and Recreation. Of note, the State beaches (Huntington State Beach and Bolsa Chica State Beach) will also be reopening today with active recreation protocols consistent with those being implemented by the City. Under the new active recreation regulations, the following protocols will be enforced at local beaches: - Beaches will be open every day from 5 a.m. – 10 p.m. - Only active recreation activities will allowed at the beaches -Physical social distancing requirements are required -Beaches (excluding those in Huntington Harbor) and beach pathways will be open -Walking, running, hiking, bicycle riding, etc. (where normally allowed) will be facilitated -Ocean will be open to swimming, surfing, bodysurfing, boogie boarding, kite surfing, paddle boarding, skim boarding, kayaking, and other similar ocean activities. -Fishing will be allowed from the beach and other ocean access locations, in those places where fishing activities are normally allowed, so long as social distancing requirements are abided by. -Within Huntington Harbor and all connected channels, active recreation such as kayaking, boating, and paddle boarding will be allowed. Do you still remember you first legit wave ride? 🏄🌊 This is JMs first wave ride. JM is from a Tagbanua tribe who lives in Napsan (more than an hour away south west of Puerto Princesa). He is one of the 4 kids I taught surfing while traveling with our camper van. 🚚. . The night before this, 3 Tagbanua kids followed our weird looking van when we turned left and camped out by the beach. After some talks, I told them I can teach them surfing if they go back the next day.. . They were back with JM. 🙌 So I told them, I would only teach them if they help me do a quick beach clean-up. Without a choice (haha 😋) they pick up some plastics at the beach and I taught them basic surfing. Perfect tiny waves for kids who saw surfboards for the first time. . Due to social distancing restrictions, City of L.A./Rec. & Parks would not issue permits this year. The decision to cancel the 2020 season was taken out of my hands. Just this week, we learned that the @ladwpofficial Sun Valley plant has been leaking methane into our community. The City of Los Angeles and the DWP need to fix this leak immediately and reveal why this was allowed to continue for so long. Though campuses are closed to students, we have done safety checks at @vocesmagnet, Fernangeles ES, Pacoima MS, Byrd MS, @phsparrots , and Vena ES and fortunately found no detectable levels of methane gas. Sorry for the delay in posting post sally. We have been busy. We sustained damage to equipment. That can be replaced. I think our pride is hurting. We took a blow but got very lucky! The event during sally will effect our beach significantly. With the 3 Mile bridge connecting Pensacola to Gulf Breeze being shut down for 60-120 days. The flow of traffic and expected beach visitors to Navarre beach will increase significantly. The strain it will put on this community will be its biggest challenge. Some personal equipment got damaged but the Surf skis make it! (Back yard sprint) @uslasurfracing Some of our medical equipment that was on top of the ATV seats was reportedly found 6miles down the beach... haha All in all we will be back. 2020 has been a year. Nurdles are raw polyethylene beads that are used to manufacture bigger plastic products. Think toothbrushes and takeout containers to pvc pipes and packaging. ⠀ They’re microplastics, each just the size of a lentil, yet one of the largest contributors to plastic pollution around the world. ⠀ They’re also toxic magnets!! 🧲🦠 They attract & absorb chemicals and bacteria, which makes its way into water, onto beaches, and into bellies of marine wildlife— or what we like to call “our food”, if the animals don’t die of poisoning or starvation from them first. ⠀ 1 lb of nurdles contains approx. 25,000 pellets!
