Today is my aunt’s birthday in Korea. When I was little, my parents were pretty busy trying to support me and my brother. We didn’t have much, but we had enough. The downside was our financial issues required them to work a lot and because of this, it was common for me to stay home alone most of my childhood. Once you’ve unleashed the power of microwaves, I realized, anybody can “cook.” So... being home alone at young age wasn’t too bad for me. However, when I was even younger, say around the age of 4 or 5, my aunt would come over on a bus to watch me, especially when my parents had to work really late. She would cook meals for me, clean the house, and even play games with me. This happened very frequently and naturally, I became very attached to her. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ During the summer of last year, she has left this world. It has been 16 years since I’ve last laughed and talked with her. When I received the news that she was on her deathbed I felt broken inside. However, due to various circumstances, I couldn’t be there for her in her final hours. I was lucky enough to Facetime her before she left, but considering the history and bond that was established between us, that was not enough. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I don’t remember much of her anymore, to tell you the truth. I dont even remember her name and I know how depressing and pathetic that is, but to be honest, it doesn’t even matter anymore. It took me a long time to write this piece for her because my memories with her became a blur. The first thing I thought of was her kindness: her patient nature and genuine love for me. Second thing I remembered was the advice she gave me on how to take care of plants, which I now believe was her way of giving me an advice on taking on this life. Third and last thing I remembered was her love for plants. She had so many different bonsai trees, many species of flowers and ferns growing on her balcony. I found them so boring and now, I’m studying them lol. It’s funny. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There’s not much to say about her. This was the only picture I could find of me and her. Everything’s a blur. Before I went into photography full time in 2015, I spent the previous six years working in the winery biz. I learned winemaking in depth. Loved it. I helped out at wineries here and there since 2015, but briefly. I try to keep one toe in the industry still! Harvest is always an amazing time. I love walking the vineyards. I still help a local friend of mine raise wire, leaf pull, and harvest when he needs extra help. I shot this beautiful Sauvignon Blanc for @mccallwines. I admire their owner, Russell, greatly. He’s always been incredibly generous to me. Anyway, as I walked the vineyard this morning, this specific bin of fruit struck me. I immediately noticed the beautiful patterns of the fruit, in their respective positions. Loved how it flowed. Saturn Opposition. Finally! ;) Two photos combined into one for the first image. The Stars and Moons we captured with a Canon Rebel SL2 attached to Alice, the Meade ETX-80. For the close-up of Saturn, we used a ZWO-ASI 120 MC attached to Henrietta, the 8 ACF. We had both telescopes mounted on a Meade LX65 mount. I used Autostakkert!3 to process the close-up and Deep Sky Stacker for the Stars and Moons. Hyperion is labeled in this image but shouldnt be as bright. Eventually everything is funny. David Sedaris.⁣ ⁣ My first time ever skiing, I wasnt prepared for the altitude -- I became extremely dehydrated and dizzy. I didnt know when it [the mountain] would ever end and felt stupid that I felt confident enough to ski solo after ski school.⁣ ⁣ After skiing as far as my body would take me, I stopped to rest and started sobbing. I wasnt prepared.⁣ ⁣ Finally, an older couple stopped and asked if I was okay.⁣ ⁣ I pitifully responded, Im so thirsty and Im having a hard time breathing!⁣ ⁣ They looked at me and said, Maybe you can eat some snow...⁣ ⁣ Before they finished their sentence (and me royally feeling like an idiot), I scooped up a fistful of snow and started nibbling at it.⁣ ⁣ I cant remember their expressions, watching me eat the snow. But I do remember them waiting for me to finish my pity party. Then they politely said, Or you can ski ~50m to the mountain lodge right over there...⁣ ⁣ With snow in my mouth, I looked a little beyond the trees to see a house... I didnt know there were mountain lodges! I felt even more pathetic.⁣ ⁣ They kindly helped me up and saw that I got into the lodge, alive. See how this is a funny story now?!⁣ ⁣ It really, really wasnt funny at the time. I had never experienced such dehydration and altitude sickness. I thought Id have to be medevacd off the mountain or something.⁣ ⁣ My common sense and situational awareness was so clouded that I didnt look for the solutions that existed right in front of me.⁣ ⁣ When I told the story to my family, I couldnt help but laugh telling it! As I was eating the snow, I didnt see the lodge 50 meters in front of my face!⁣ ⁣ The moral of the story is 2020 is not funny. Not right now. We are still dealing with raw and clouded emotions. But its not going to be like this forever. Theres light at the end of the tunnel. I promise. My heart is broken right now. I don’t know why this is hitting me so hard... So much confusion, respect and admiration for @chadwickboseman as a man dedicated to his craft, community, family, and his legacy. The fact that he was fighting cancer for this long and kept it out of the public until this day leaves me feeling so empty. I don’t know what I could’ve done but send prayers to him. But I guess that selfishly would’ve felt like I was able to help in some minuscule way. We as humans are all being tested in so many different ways from so many different directions. Σήμερα η Πατμος γιορτάζει τον Άγιο Ιωάννη της το Θεολόγο. Ο Ιωάννης είναι ο συγγραφέας του 4ου κατά σειρά Ευαγγελίου στην Καινή Διαθήκη, το θεολογικότερο όλων και θεωρούμενο ως Ευαγγέλιο της αγάπης, καθώς επίσης τριών Καθολικών Επιστολών και της Αποκάλυψης. Τη ζωή του κοντά στον Κύριο τη γνωρίζουμε μέσα από τα Ευαγγέλια της Καινής Διαθήκης. Ο Ιωάννης συνέχισε έντονα την δράση του και μετά την Ανάληψη του Κυρίου. Αυτός και ο Πέτρος ήταν οι πρώτοι που κήρυξαν μετά την επιφοίτηση του Αγ. Πνεύματος σε όλο τον κόσμο το λόγο του Κυρίου. Η παράδοση, επίσης, μας λέει ότι ο Ιωάννης κήρυξε το Ευαγγέλιο στη Μικρά Ασία, και ιδιαίτερα στην Έφεσο. Στα χρόνια του αυτοκράτορα Δομετιανού βασανίστηκε και εξορίστηκε στη Πάτμο, όπου έγραψε την Αποκάλυψη. Σε μεγάλη ηλικία ξαναγύρισε στην Έφεσσο όπου συνέγραψε το ευαγγέλιο του. Ο Ιωάννης έζησε γύρω στα 100 χρόνια (κοιμήθηκε ειρηνικά γύρω στο 105 με 106 μ.Χ.). Εκείνο, όμως, που αξίζει να αναφέρουμε, είναι η φράση που συνεχώς έλεγε στους μαθητές του: «Τεκνια, αγαπατε αλληλους» (Ιωαν. ιγ΄ 34), που σημαίνει, παιδιά μου, να αγαπάτε ο ένας τον άλλο. Allerdings nicht gestern, dafür reflektierte der helle Vollmond das Sonnenlicht auf den alten Turm, was auch toll aussah. Tipp: Taschenlampe 🔦 mit rotem Licht mitnehmen, dann bleiben die Augen stets im Nachtmodus.
