Last year was extremely hard for me between postpartum and turning 30, it was an emotional rollercoaster. I made the decision to never lie down and to take any fight standing. So I am proud of this year, the woman who pushed through the valley and stands here today is stronger, wiser, happier, and straight up BLESSED. Being able to recognize your season, fight through and still check things off your goals list is a blessing and I’m so thankful! I’m claiming this new year as Thirty-WON. Today I felt pretty, put together, neat and “my old self” - for a few hours before my hair was up in a bun and my dress was flung off for something more comfortable to breastfeed in!🤭 . . Never compare your everyday self to beautifully curated images on social media- there’s nothing wrong with pretty pictures, but more days I look more like the other photos in this reel- messy, little to no makeup, baggy clothes- it’s a season I’m in and I’ve accepted it! ☺️ . . It can be hard as a mom to compare your journey to others, but remember a lot of what we see on Instagram is not always real life. This afternoon, I wrapped up my final Bride and Bliss client. ⁣ ⁣ You better believe I had a reallll good cry about it — for the year and a half of hard hard work, for the version of myself I thought I was becoming, for closing the door on a pivotal chapter of my life. It’s a letting go, for sure. ⁣ ⁣ There’s a lot of shame around “giving up” and not “sticking something out” - but, sometimes, you just know when you know, and that’s it. I’ve been fighting those feelings, hard, for the past couple of months. What will people say? What will they think? (especially the ones who really believed in me and this biz idea.) Ultimately, I’ve had to put my own knowing first. ⁣ ⁣ No more forcing something that doesn’t sit quite right, no more ignoring my own inner truth for external “truths” about what I should be doing, what I should be chasing after. ⁣ ⁣ The language in this spiritual/self growth community can get confusing and muddy and we must always, always have discernment. There seems to be a pressure, these days, that unless you are a creative entrepreneur with a thriving 6 figure business, you are somehow less-than; you have limited thinking and blocks to work through. But that’s simply not true for all of us. Here’s what I’ve learned: we must always come back to ourselves. ⁣ ⁣ I have no clue what’s next, but I’m hopeful there’s somethin new brewing; however long it may take to surface. I’ve learned SO much in this process - about what I like, what I don’t, what I’m good at, what I’m not, and mostly, what I’m capable of: creating something out of nothing. Its unexpected events like my trip to the Emergency Room this morning that really test our faith. (Em here btw, just in case you still cant tell us apart!)⠀ ⠀ I was getting ready for my Monday morning run when all of a sudden a shooting pain hit my lower abdomen. The pain continued to increase over the next few minutes and I found myself on the ground, nauseous, and on the brink of passing out. Luckily Lucy wasnt working last night (shes a night shift nurse), so she was able to rush over to my bathroom as soon as she heard me call out for her.⠀ ⠀ I dont want this post to be about me, so long story short she rushed me to the Emergency Room, where I had my blood drawn and a CAT Scan done. No Appendicitis, but a rupture of a large ovarian cyst. No emergency surgery needed for this rupture, so Praise the Lord! Just at home resting now.⠀ ⠀ At first I didnt want to share any of this with yall. But I felt like God was calling me to use this situation to encourage someone with the following:⠀ ⠀ Whatever youre going through, God is with you. He will never leave you, nor forsake you. 💛 (And look how sweet God was to remind me of this by putting me in a hospital room that had a cross right above the bed.)⠀ ⠀ In Addition to this, He isnt surprised by anything. In fact, He is lovingly sovereign over every detail of our lives - including the trials. & Its in the trials that He draws us even closer to Him, reminds us of our dependency on Him, and shows us that His power is made perfect in our weakness. (2 Cor. 12:9)⠀ ⠀ Brothers and sisters, we serve a big God, who has very big plans, and sometimes its hard to understand why He lets us go through hard things. (See Isaiah 55:9) But we can rest in the fact that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)⠀ ⠀ He loves you oh so much friend, and is working every little hiccup in your life for His glory and your good. If youre facing a trial right now, I encourage you to lean into God, not away from Him. He is for you and wants to be your rock. My WFH set up is almost ideal now, 6 lockdown months in the making. Since March I have new microphone, new laptop, new chair, new microphone arm, new leads... it’s been expensive but so so worth it. Lifes to short not to have fun! Smile, have fun & enjoy the moments! 💞 Im a kind of serious person by nature, never fully able to let loose. Ive worked since I can remember making small tips at my moms salon when I was 8 then getting a real job as early as I could at 14, a shoe store in the mall haha and Ive worked my ass off ever since. I grew up very humble, moving from apt to apt, taking the bus to get places bc we couldnt afford a car. Letting loose, just having fun and not worrying about anything wasnt a luxury we could afford. Failing for me wasnt an option, theres no one I could ask for money, help or an out. But with all of that, I remain grateful to my mom who worked her ass off to make sure we could have food, feel love and my grandparents who watched me in the summers. So now Im constantly thinking, what can I do next to make money, to improve myself, to get better, am I being safe (Im def not a risk taker 😂) but thats something Ive really tried to improve in daily. Ill never completely change (no one does and thats okay) but I can try to let loose, not be so stressed and only focused on whats in front of me that I can control. My advice today: -learn the lesson in every hardship youve been through, only focus on the positivity youve gained from it. -know that no one completely changes, we can only slightly shift. -know you flaws but most importantly know, embrace and focus on your unique amazing qualities -focus on the positive, take a breath, appreciate the littlest things we take for granted daily like running water or the beauty in where you live. -Simply love life for all the amazing moments -Love yourself, smile & laugh......💙 - @serenashells on Instagram

Do you know how long I hated my body? TOO FREAKING LONG. I used to look at my self in the mirror and say the most horrendous things to myself. I was 15kgs heavier then. When I lost all the weight, what do you know. Those horrible things still came out of my mouth. Not good enough, not good enough. I still have cellulite, stretchy skin, rolls, I fluctuate weight a lot but it doesn’t make me “not good enough” or “unworthy”. I remember when I was with my ex and I had put on weight, we were in a grocery store and he said “you shouldn’t wear those shorts because you are getting really big”. That broke my heart. When I met Zac I was going through the worst my hormones have been, I gained all the weight back and lost it and at every single stage he loved me for all of me. Now I don’t need a man to accept me to know I’m good enough because I did that all on my own. So, I bought a house 🏡❤️ 🤯 It is a gorgeous 100+ year old century home that needs a bit of TLC but I have lots of love to give. I’m a big fan of tall ceilings, old brick and spaces with character so I am in LOVE! As a single-income self-employed woman, I never thought something like this would ever be possible. I know I’m not alone in this. Ladies, you CAN do it on your own. It took me years to realize that buying a home — on my own — could happen and all it took was shifting my mindset (and a lot of hard work). It’s officially been 1 month since the release of #ThisIsNotAnExit🚫! I am still so proud of this song, and so grateful for the response to it. Over the last few weeks, my perspective of my own song has been completely altered. The Covid-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement have deepened my understanding of my privilege and changed my view of the world and my place in it. I came back to this song (now years since its creation) and saw that it was no longer just a love song. To me, it’s now a fight song. There is no exit, there is only forward. The fight never ends, and through pain and uncertainty, there is still joy and clarity. Woo!! Last month I learnt React during the Microsoft OneWeek Hackathon and now Ive just checked in my first #React & #TypeScript PR into the code base. 👩‍💻🎉 Many of you followed along with my daily updates of learning using my @Udemy course and coding my deliverable, so saw the highs and lows of this first part of my React journey. Its been really refreshing to learn something new, build skills on the job, and create something pretty cool! ⠀ ⠀ What helped me upskill so quickly:⠀ ⠀ 1️⃣ Built a foundation of knowledge by following along through an online course. I did the React - The Complete Guide by Maximilian Schwartzmuller course on Udemy⠀ ⠀ 2️⃣ Dove into the real code base to see how a proper production app is set up and how other examples accomplished something⠀ ⠀ 3️⃣ Learnt by doing! Started building something and connecting the puzzle pieces. Code makes so much more sense when you can get your hands on it⠀ ⠀ 4️⃣ Built up my code piece by piece. This helps avoid being overwhelmed and keeps you focused ⠀ ⠀ 5️⃣ Used the resources at my disposal. Ask questions, read documentation, watch tech talks⠀ ⠀ 6️⃣ Reminded myself that the problems and bugs are where most of the learning happens.
