Nos últimos anos, desde outubro de 2014 para ser mais precisa, eu conheci ainda mais forte essa dupla manifestada em uma tal Escola Schumacher Brasil. E de lá pra cá o que vivemos juntos é algo quase impossível de traduzir em palavras. Agora sinto na pele a dificuldade que muitos que passaram pela escola nos contavam: “eu não sei como explicar o que vivemos nesse curso”. Talvez pelo casamento tão bem feito entre conteúdo, prática, experiência, corpo, mão, mente e sentimentos. Talvez porque a beleza não é para ser explicada mesmo, e sim, sentida em cada poro, em cada sorriso, em cada bom dia, em cada discussão, em cada aprendizado. Longe de buscarmos um local sem riscos e ruídos, muito pelo contrário, acho que quanto mais verdade trazíamos mais necessidade de discutir e afinar o que fazíamos ali juntos como professores e amigos. Fecho o olho e fica difícil não chorar de saudades. Abro o olho e fico radiante pelo o que construímos e pelo o que segue firme e bonito nessa jornada da escola. Hoje a saudade invadiu meu dia, me preencheu, me levou para memórias inesquecíveis, para um mar de abraços e momentos...mas também me trouxe ainda mais para o presente. Com a certeza e a alegria de seguir trilhando acompanhada por essa dupla de irmãs agora em outro tempo espaço. Be it a night with fam or roomates.. this combo is a winner! The most famous of the celebrations in Assam are the three Bihus that signify Assamese New Year (Bohag/Rangali Bihu), protection of crops (Kati/Kangali Bihu) and the harvest season (Magh/Bhogali Bihu). The Bhogali Bihu celebrated in January is associated with a lot of feasting, with the word Bhog literally translating to feast. The delicacy essential to the Bhogali Bihu are the different types of Pithas. Today, we want to talk about the Til Pitha. What is Til Pitha? Til Pitha is a sweet, stuffed roll essentially made with rice flour, black sesame seeds and jaggery. The recipe is quite simple yet requires utmost care at each step. The pithas are also a little fragile and may fall apart if not handled properly. The Bora rice (aka sticky rice) is soaked for a couple of hours, strained, partially dried and ground into a fine powder. Traditionally the rice is pounded in a Ural or Dheki. The rice powder is then pressed by hand into a container to get rid of as much air as possible. The container is then covered with a wet muslim cloth and kept aside for an hour or so. For the filling, black sesame seeds are cleaned, roasted and coarsely ground. Jaggery is finely chopped and mixed with the sesame seeds. The rice powder is spread in a flat circular shape onto a hot iron griddle or tawa with hand. It is then filled with the filling along its diameter. As it starts becoming a little firm, it is folded with hand and then rolled out. It is then kept aside on the griddle to keep cooking while the next pitha is made. The Til Pithas are served as a part of the Bihu platter or as a snack around the year with milk tea. Where do you get it? Nothing compares to eating Til Pithas straight off the griddle in an Assamese household. But we also recommend the ones from Bhogali Jalpan in Guwahati. Our fearless leader, @aimeeislaimee / @aimeecardosoart has decided to step down as Executive Director of Art Tooth to allow others to jump in, fostering excitement, growth, and reinvigoration. You might not see everything that it takes to run a non-profit like Art Tooth, but thats probably because of the organization and hard work Aimee has always put into running everything. From painting a mural so we can get rental space to checking if we can squeeze just one more artist in that gallery space, Aimee has always been there to support the Fort Worth art scene and the members of Art Tooth. August 25 will be the fourth anniversary of our first exhibition, and if I try to think of everything we have done in those years, I cant imagine it happening without Aimee by my side. Aimee leaving does not mean the end of Art Tooth, it will just be another change, and if theres anything we are good at, it is anticipating change. What a beautiful night putting to rest our sacred Sackett space among my yoga family. Repeat after me: I am releasing anything that I am no longer meant to carry... I have realized how tightly I have been holding on to certain beliefs, aspects of my “identity”, certain roles, and inner narratives that have served me for the last 10 years. However, now, I see that I am evolving, expanding, decompressing, and simplifying...and many of those things I am holding on to must be released for me to move forward. Letting go is hard, especially, when those things have been such an intimate part of who I have been. It is like letting go of parts of myself that I know, all too well. But the more I walk towards what is next for me, I feel the pull of those things holding me back, and it is clear, I have to release rather than fight to hold on to what I have outgrown. Oof...this one hits me like a wave, but instead of trying to resist this wave, I am choosing to release and surrender to it and let it carry me for awhile. As you think about your “next” and what you want for yourself, is there anything that you should release that you no longer need to carry? Some thoughts on Art and Business today! ✨ I am not going to lie, is a bitter sweet feeling running your own company. I miss working in the loom as a weaver, but being a business owner I have more things to take care of and there is little time to dedicate to this time consuming craft! I get to work at the loom to work on small samples once in a while, but I do miss the days I would make the products myself and get to weave every day at the studio. I struggle to balance my time to do the actual running the businessside, but also continue to grow as an artist and weaver myself! Becoming an entrepreneur has been the best desicion I made in my career, it does come with sacrifices, but all of them worth it. Any other creative entreprenurs relate to balancing businessand creative time? . . . No voy a mentir, es una sensación agridulce dirigir tu propia empresa. Extraño trabajar en el telar como tejedora, pero como propietaria de un negocio tengo más cosas de las que ocuparme y hay poco tiempo para dedicarle a este arte que consume mucho tiempo! Trabajo en el telar para trabajar en pequeñas muestras de vez en cuando, pero echo de menos los días en que hago los productos yo misma y puedo tejer todos los días en el estudio. Es dificil equilibrar mi tiempo para dirigir el negocio, pero también quiero siguir creciendo como artista y tejedora! I have been asked in the past What do you consider a Top Child Model? Its sort of a loaded question, right? But let me take a stab at it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ * Ok, so first, child models aren’t like Supermodels- they’re not really household names to people who aren’t in the business thus know some of the busier kids names. & really, how many people not in the business can name me a Supermodel whose not also a socialite anyway? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ * Stop thinking there is some sort of a tier you need to reach to consider your kiddos time in the business successful or not. Are they having fun? Do they enjoy the experiences? Are they making new friends? Cool. They’re successful. Go ahead and call them a Top Model now. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ * I represent some kids who work all the time. They’re busier than other kids I rep. But there are so many factors that go into this- size, availability, personality, look, time of year & what a client is looking for etc- these all have to fall into place at just the right time. For some, it will. For others, not as much. What I don’t have, is a Top Model board. Kids who are marketed more than others because of jobs booked, money made, castings invited to. What do I think makes a Top Model? One who gets it & loves it, & doesn’t live or die by it.
