El cuidador debe lavarse las manos al entrar y salir de la habitación del paciente; también deberá usar mascarilla al momento de entrar a asistirlo. 4. Minimizar el contacto del paciente con otros familiares. 5. Limpiar y sanitizar las superficies de la casa con cloro todos los días. 6. Limpiar y sanitizar con cloro el baño que el paciente utilice, si este es compartido, deberá limpiarse cada vez que sea usado por el paciente enfermo. 7. Cambiar todos los días la ropa y sábanas que use el paciente y lavarlas por separado a temperaturas sobre 60º. 8. Todos los residuos del paciente se deben desechar en un basurero con tapa y dentro de una bolsa plástica. 9. No se deben utilizar los mismos utencilios de cocina que use el paciente. 10. El paciente no debe estar más cerca que un metro de distancia de otras personas. As schools prepare for the start of another year, we encourage parents, teachers, and community officials to keep in mind the important role that environmental factors play in health. In a recent report prepared by Healthy Schools Network and the New Jersey Work Environmental Council, the organizations have assembled a call to action for states and public agencies, asking them to provide guidance for schools on how to successfully prepare for reopening. The findings touch on a number of important environmental factors to consider that contribute to health (or lack thereof) within the school setting such as indoor air quality, safer pest management, drinking water, and building conditions. However, one of the most pressing environmental factors facing schools as they reopen this year is the increased pressure for consistent and effective cleaning and disinfecting measures. The report creators advocate for the use of soap and water as well as the replacement of classroom cleaners with “unscented, third-party certified green general all-purpose cleaners and safer disinfectants.” We applaud the conscious effort to move schools towards safer cleaning alternatives. Effective cleaning and disinfecting will be crucial this coming school year, and it remains imperative to find less toxic ways to accomplish these goals. By utilizing less toxic cleaning methods, schools can create a healthier school environment, which contributes to the overall health and wellness of students and staff. I have noticed that overall, large family systems are becoming stronger, social relationships are deepening despite distancing, and old friendships are being re-cultivated. Once the opportunity arises to relax restrictions, I believe that the trend will continue in this vein. Thanks to all who attended the film premiere in April, a brand new sterilizer was purchased to prevent of the spread of infection in Dangila hospital and the surrounding community for years to come. Sterilizers are rare in hospitals in many low- and middle-income countries and it is highly difficult to perform safe surgery without sterile instruments. For future expecting mothers undergoing surgery such as Gojam and Firnus (featured in the film), the presence of a sterilizer in their hospital could be life-saving. Reposted with our thanks and gratitude for @oldtrailschool *** Last week our Librarian Heather Swift and her husband loaded 44 boxes of books collected from our March book drive into their cars and drove them to the @kidsbookbank. 📦 From February 25 through March 5 Old Trail co-hosted a book drive with @westernreserveacademy for Cleveland Kids Book Bank whose goal is to break the poverty cycle by exposing low-income children to language and reading from birth. Heather said that while she was at the warehouse delivering, one of the staff members noticed a Young Adult book titled Fantasy League by Mike Lupica and was thrilled - she had just received a call that morning with a request for Young Adult books, but they didn’t have any in stock. Their CEO said, I cannot explain to you how thrilling it is to see kids taking on this cause. As a co-founder, it is somewhat surreal to see the growth and theres something beautiful about the ownership your kids seem to feel. The Program collects oyster shells from local restaurants which saves them from having to pay someone to take them to a landfill. Long post, WARNING POSSIBLE TRIGGERS: On Saturday, September 19th, I shared a deeper look into my life...as a SURVIVOR of Rape. An entrepreneur who has PTSD. Some of the tools that work for me. This was by far one of the hardest things I have ever done. After the live was over, what most dont know...I broke down and cried. Afraid of what people might think. Why did I feel this way? Because of the stigmas that surround rape/rape culture. Because of the fact there are people in my life who didnt believe and still dont. I was scared when I would get an alert saying someone had reacted or commented on my post. This is the most Ive shared at once with complete strangers online. I was both nervous and terrified. Right before the event, I was sick to my stomach. I was shaking and the flashbacks hit me like a ton of bricks. During the event, I was tapping my feet underneath my desk, to help keep me focused during the event. The flashbacks got worse as I started to mention my rape. I was angry, but I pushed through it. I would talk in circles, because its a coping tool that I use when I feel an episode coming out. After I finally was able to compose myself, I reached out to a couple of people from my support group and then I fell asleep crying. I woke up my eyes were puffy, my pillow was soaked from all my tears. My face I was swollen and all I could do was sit there in the dark and remind myself I STILL MATTER! I STILL HAVE A PURPOSE!! AND I AM JUST GETTING STARTED!! So how do we change the conversation? We join the conversation!! We become educated and be aware that our words can be one of the most powerful tools, but our words can also be the most hurtful. As I shared in my workshop, triggers for me may not be the same as others. Certain words make me want to crawl into a hole and hide. This doesnt mean I am comparing you to my attacker, its just the words, that impact me...not YOU!! My best advice to anyone who read this? Check on your family and friends. And if you see a post that might be out of the norm, reach out and make sure they are doing okay. Please from my own personal experience, dont reach out and make them feel worse. A Brief History of The Emergency Shelter Partnership In early December 2004, a group of concerned community leaders gathered to address what it saw as a growing problem of homelessness in Northern Westchester County. Reports of homeless men and women suffering through severely cold winters and, in some cases, dying from exposure, mobilized the group to develop a program for a winter night emergency shelter. The core of the shelter concept consisted of interfaith congregations opening their doors to offer a safe place to sleep and a hot meal to those in need of food and shelter. In 2005, the Emergency Shelter Partnership (ESP) committed to providing emergency shelter during the five coldest months of the year, November through March. In October 2011, ESP became a 501(c)(3) not for profit corporation. In 2018, the Emergency Shelter Partnership joined forces with a similar group in Ossining thereby serving two geographical areas – Mt. Kisco and Ossining. Presently, there are thirty-one congregations that host the shelter; working side by side with other community groups and individuals who provide meals and financial support. - @emergencyshelterpartnership on Instagram

The Rockland County Department of Health was outside the @palisadescntr in West Nyack giving out free washable, reusable cloth face masks to shoppers. The Health Department has teamed with the Rockland Human Rights Commission and County Executive Ed Days Office to provide free masks to food pantries, community organizations, non-profits, houses of worship, barbers, hair salons and other businesses throughout the county over the last 3 weeks. They will be distributing more masks for the public on Friday, 7/31 from 2 pm - 4 pm at the Palisades Center near Macys and the TOR bus stop. They will also be distributing masks at Haverstraw African American Connection Park, 41 Clinton St. Haverstraw on Wednesday, 8/5 from 11 am - 2 pm. The Rockland County Department of Health has conducted dozens of outreach and education events throughout Rockland during the month of July. We will now be bringing these efforts to the Palisades Center in order to share the latest health and safety best practices with residents and visitors. Fantastic news! The World Health Organisation (@who) has announced the end of wild polio in Africa, marking a major step towards global eradication of the disease. Thank you to all the donors, governments, health workers and @rotaryinternational members who have done so much to achieve this. #UKaid is proud to support you. The UK is a global leader in the push to end polio. The UK is one of the top donors to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), which has vaccinated millions of children against polio in the world’s poorest countries. As a result of their work more than 18 million people are able to walk who would otherwise have been paralysed by the virus. Support from the UK has helped 220 million children across 47 countries in Africa. Last year, the UK committed funding to vaccinate more than 400 million children against polio across the world every year until 2023. It will save an estimated 650,000 children from life-long paralysis every year and support over 20 million staff and volunteers worldwide to deliver polio vaccination and broader health services to communities for those affected by the disease. The funding will help provide large scale immunisations for children in high risk countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan, where wild polio yet to be eradicated. It will also support work across Africa where there have been increasing outbreaks of vaccine-derived poliovirus which continue to paralyse children. In June, the Prime Minister hosted the Global Vaccine Summit which raised over $8.8bn to vaccinate 300 million more children in the world’s poorest countries against diseases including measles, polio and cholera. The UK is also funding international efforts to develop a safe, workable coronavirus vaccine that will be available throughout the world – as the biggest country donor to the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations. #UKaid - @dfid_uk on Instagram

Warren Point (Sept. 22, 2020) – Warren Point held a Meet and Greet for families to meet their teachers in person and pick up instructional materials. Third and fourth-grade students lined up on the black top, took photos with their teachers and had a chance to say hello. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hampton, Virginia native noticed that the news was reporting a shortage of diapers, which prompted him to find ways to raise money for single mothers who couldnt afford supplies.⠀ ⠀ There was no diapers at all, and I was like, Oh, people are having babies, so I should help [them] afford diapers, Cartier told ABC News.⠀ ⠀ Thats when he came up with the idea to create a lemonade stand. Since July, Cartier has been operating the stand along with his family and friends help, raking in $4,500 in his first month alone.⠀ ⠀ In addition to selling the refreshments, the stand also serves as a diaper collection location for donations. Every night, Cartier and his friends would shut down the stand and use the funds from the day to purchase diapers and wipes for those in need. ⠀ ⠀ To date, the budding philanthropist has donated more than 22,000 diapers to single mothers in need. Due to the success of the donations and his commitment to creating change, Cartier and his mom started a non-profit called Kids 4 Change. Id like to spotlight CD8’s very own Kristen Harvey, an administrative clerk for the Los Angeles Sanitation Department. Kristen was hired through the City’s Targeted Local Hire Program (TLH). In the spirit of highlighting Black women, I am showing love to Kristen for her commitment to serving the City of Los Angeles. Kristen heard about the TLH program from her mother and decided to apply. In her previous job, she experienced discrimination and realized that there was no room for her to promote beyond her role. According to Kristen, “TLH has been a great start for my career, and its changed things for the better. Im really happy this program was created to give people a chance to excel in life”. Kristen’s story represents the importance of investing in Black and Brown communities and through opportunities like the City’s TLH program. Congressmember Karen Bass @repkarenbass understands this reality and introduced the Jobs and Justice Act 2020, which includes several provisions to protect and strengthen Black American families with major provisions, including raising the national minimum wage to $15 an hour.
