#ArarioGalleryExhibition #KIAF2020 #FeaturedArtists ⠀ Today’s KIAF OVR 2020 artist from Arario is BOO Jihyun. ⠀ BOO Jihyun creates three-dimensional and installation works using motives from the sea and the environment based on memories of her childhood spent on Jeju Island. The artist’s inspirations from the sea as well as her autobiographical memories and experiences are amplified through the visualization of her works. By reinterpreting immaterial elements of the sea, including light and darkness, sound, and horizon, through abandoned boats and discarded fishing lamps, the artist questions the condensed timeline of the past, present, and future. BOO, who continually researches topics relating to environmental issues and sustainable art, has been invited to participate in various international land-nature installation art biennales and events such as the Vladivostok Biennale. ⠀ “Net-Being” (2020), which is currently on view in KIAF OVR 2020 has been produced using discarded fishing lamps, which is representative of BOO’s practice. ⠀ Dimly glowing in the darkness, the fishing lights are a reflection of the artist’s fond memories of the fishing boats floating on the shimmering Jeju sea in the depths of night.
