Holy smokes!!! The first two days of @pikespeakapex have been hectic!!! Stage 1/prologue was the first outing on my brand new @ridecannondale Scalpel!!! The bike was absolutely shredding in preride but unfortunately I didn’t have new bike day luck, putting a massive hole in my tire in the first 10 minutes. I ended up having to ride the next 40 minutes on the rim, losing 10 minutes in GC which was a bummer. Stage 2 was going to be an uphill battle (literally), seeing as I was starting in 80th place, over 3 min back. Managed to have a monster effort on the day and get up to 35th place and 40th overall. Super stoked to rip tomorrow and Sunday’s stage and hopefully pull back some more places!!! - @tydeman.newman on Instagram

I was supposed to be in Helsinki on a photography assignment for a major travel magazine, but alas, Sweden was red-listed by its Nordic neighbor because of our rather rogue COVID-19 policies. So I gave that assignment to a fellow fabulous photographer based in Helsinki. Same in late March, I was supposed to be in St. Petersburg on a photography assignment for an in-flight magazine, but Russia closed its borders right when I was about to go so I gave that assignment to another fabulous photographer based in St. Petersburg. Oftentimes, we travel photographers are sent to a destination as opposed to using local photographers because: 1. We’ve built trust with the publication 2. We’re regular contributors and know their style and workflow 3. And we can shoot it with new fresh eyes and pick up interesting scenes a local photographer might take for granted. Yesterday, a 60’ bridge officially connected the new Plum Creek Greenway starting in Cornelius to the South Prong Rocky River Greenway in Davidson. Even though Plum Creek Greenway is just a half-mile long, it will have a powerful impact on Cornelius’s emerging Emerald Necklace, offering the critical link providing nearly seven miles of contiguous greenway/multi-use paths in both Cornelius and Davidson. Cornelius, Davidson and Mecklenburg County partnered to make this greenway a reality. Currently WY has no travel restrictions and you can access the lifts via WY296-US212 from Cody. After numerous calls to MT Governor Bullocks office, we have received an exemption on this travel ban to cross the invisible state line 2 miles before the lifts and return to MT without being subject to quarantine. While examining the monuments granite slabs, she saw her brothers first name inscribed on one of them: If he had been born just over 150 years ago, she writes, he could have been enslaved at the University of Virginia, alongside the rest of our family. What affected Entzminger even more, though, were the unnamed. Of the 4,000 deep gashes, each representing an enslaved person who lived at UVA, only 578 have names above them. Given the prominent location, the city required a building that would escape the regular factory appearance, and the clients intention was to create a strong visual identity for the newly created coffee brand. The program required spaces that would fit both, coffee production plant with its facilities and office space which would provide variety of work space arrangements, meetings and socializing areas, both indoors and outdoors. Additionally, public areas which would include coffee tasting cafe with small coffee exhibits. . As a response, a regular, box‐like volume of a production plant required to serve the buildings primary purpose adjusts to program components by wrapping around them. It stays high where necessary to fit production equipment and lowers where possible. Same with office, the building shell wraps around work, meeting and rest spaces arranged on floors suspended on various levels. The three atriums as the light wells, and numerous skylights bring daylight to the work and shared spaces below. The atriums are filled with plants to form small green outdoor spaces directly visible from all indoor areas. . The 3,680 sqm green roof acts as an additional thermal barrier to the roof insulation. The roof is intended to grow vegetation found around the site with wild grasses and plants, to blend with the context and require less maintenance. . I took our youngest on an adventure date today. He wanted to try a new park. Lucky for him, I keep a huge list of places we need to visit. 😂 And off to Sugarhouse Park we went. This was our first time and we were amazed at how HUGE this park is. There is so much space—lots of open grass, huge trees, a big pond, a creek, and this really fun playground. We explored all over, but his favorite part was feeding the ducks—Of course! 😉 I liked the shady, little creek.
