Today I wanted to cover STI preventing contraceptives !! (STI= Sexually transmitted Infections) When should you protect yourself from STIs when engaging in sex? ALWAYS unless you and your partner/s/ have been tested recently and both have the green light !! How often should you get tested? Once a year as long as situations stay the same , but youll have to be retested if you change or add partners! Dont have access to a doctor? You can get at home tests or there are some testing facilities that do flexible payments (pay what you can afford) Unsure how to bring up getting tested with a partner ? Try things like Oh I just realised weve never been tested before, would you be up for going this day? Theres a newer at home STI test did you want to try it with me Ive been wanting to get tested soon, whens the last time you got tested? Maybe we should go together !! What if you test positive? STIs are more frequent than you think, there is just still a negative stigma around them. Many STIs are treatable or with use of protection wont effect your sex life! If youve tested positive it is your duty to inform past partners that may be effected as well as any current partners or before engaging with future partners. Try saying something like “Do you have a minute to chat? I want to talk about my recent STI test, because the results may impact you.” Whether its a chronic STI that may effect someone for like or something thats been cured its still important to talk to our partners and make sure we are using proper protection, being open and non judgemental. A common stereotype of sexuality professionals is that they are “hypersexual and that their “obsession” with sex is what motivates them to enter the field. However, research tells us that this view is inaccurate. In a study published in the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy, hundreds of sex educators, researchers, and therapists were surveyed about their sex lives and their reasons for entering the field. The three most commonly cited reasons for becoming a sexuality professional were “the field is interesting” (94%), there is still “a lot left to learn about sexuality” (84%), and the desire to “improve sexual health” (79%). Overwhelmingly, people’s motivations for entering the field didnt have anything to do with their own sex lives. In terms of sexual behavior, while sexuality professionals reported more acceptance of sexual diversity, they were actually less likely to report having had casual sex in the past year compared to the national average; however, they did report much higher rates of condom usage. Certainly, there is individual variability—some folks have much higher levels of sexual behavior than others. However, the overall trend tells us that the stereotypes about sexuality professionals aren’t grounded in reality. We were contacted around 11.30 this morning by a nurse from regional health. They let us know there had been a customer at the shop on Wednesday the 5th somewhere around 5.30pm to 7pm. We were told this was a low risk, casual contact who was asymptomatic at the time. This was all done over the phone, both myself and Tsubasa spoke to this nurse in seperate calls to get advice on what we should do. We followed and are still following this advice. We have attached a copy of the email and letter we have since received. We were surprised to hear about the denial at today’s press conference as we were informed it would be included. Since then we have received many messages of love and support, which we value highly. Unfortunately some feel the need to make unhelpful and hurtful comments, this is not what our staff deserve. Thank you Business Insider! Graduating from law school with over $200,000 of student loans, I was honestly terrified. The gravity of it didn’t hit me until after I graduated. ▪️ Once I realized it was “real”, I knew I wanted to pay off the student loans as quickly as possible. I set an action plan to pay them off in 2 years, and had a “check-in” with myself every 2 weeks for those 2 years to make sure I was on track and make adjustments where needed. ▪️ Even though I was fortunate enough to have this job as a corporate lawyer right after graduation, I made sure to never allow that to get to my head to “justify” more expensive purchases or inflate my lifestyle. ▪️ Instead, I just continued to live frugally (the same way I had done out of necessity as a broke law student) and was probably the only one in the entire fancy law firm who was wearing shoes from Walmart to work, haha. ▪️ If you’re reading this and have student loans but don’t have a set date when you know you’re going to pay off your student loans, that means you’re letting your student loans run you (and not the other way around). Here’s a lil story about my first time in a recording studio. 🥰 I scoured the “yellow pages” (google it GenZ) & found an ad for a 40$ an hour recording studio in metro Atlanta, begged my parents to record a covers album for my 13th birthday in under 3 hours 🤣 I remember at 13 being so so conscious of my gayness and nervous that what made me different from the other kids would show up too much, embarrassed that the guy recording me would notice, although come to think of it recording Bette Midler’s “The Rose” straight into Mariah’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” probably didn’t help. The only real “gay agenda” is simply this, making the world a place where no child feels the need to spend years of their life covering up and hiding, then years of their adult life uncovering again. Its something no one should HAVE to go thorough, and much of my own efforts to put myself out there as an adult have been to not only aid in my own continuous uncovering process but also to help push forward in the small ways that I know how in my industry. I remember thinking at the start of the relationship that I hope liam doesn’t think my cellulite is ugly. That I hope he doesn’t find me unattractive after seeing my dimply butt and cellulite covered legs. My legs have always been my biggest insecurity. The thing that held me back from wearing shorts, from going to the beach with my friends and from letting my partner see me naked. My insecurity was eating at me every time I walked around in my underwear. “Can he notice my cellulite?” “Does he still think I’m attractive?”, “Is he turned off by my cellulite?”. So many thoughts were running through my mind, all focused around my insecurity. Every time my legs were exposed my insecurities escalated. I thought because I was aware of my cellulite he would be too. I thought because society labeled cellulite as a flaw he would think less of me. But the truth is he didn’t care. He didn’t notice my cellulite and loves my body regardless. He didn’t see the things I disliked about my body. Your partner/person don’t notice the parts of yourself you are self conscious about as you don’t notice the things they are self conscious off. They love you for your mind, heart and soul! Your beautiful body is just a bonus! They don’t notice the parts of yourself you dislike. They don’t see the insecurities you have been ashamed of for many years! Society and diet culture have brainwashed us to believe that in order to be worthy of love we have to have the perfect body. In order to find a partner we have to look a certain way. But that just isn’t true. You already have a perfect body! You already are worthy of love! Only we see our insecurities and only we have the power to demolish those negative thoughts we have formulated around our bodies. You deserve to feel loved! You deserve to feel empowered and when that person tells you that you are beautiful I hope you believe them because it is true! Imagine working in a field where you are expected to be proficient in your specialty, continue to train and educate yourself in said specialty, perform and assist with interventions, procedures and treatments within the specialty, provide explanations, information and education to those that utilize your specialty and make autonomous decisions based on your training that directly impact care only to be belittled and disrespected by colleagues that received further training within the field you both love because you didn’t choose the same path. Imagine all that and also being told that you are not allowed to discuss, advocate, or educate outside of that realm. That you are not permitted to be considered an expert in the subject matter that you also devoted your time, energy and life to because you’re not a medical doctor. What if your certified? Have your Masters? What about a DNP? How about if you’re a nurse with a PhD? What if you’re just a brilliant RN? Performed research? Completed a study? Can you still not be an expert on a subject because you’re not an MD? Only MDs can be experts in health subjects? What if you’re a lousy MD? Is the education you provide or explain automatically higher quality? more accurate? Where is this line of thinking coming from? Nobody argues that Dermatologists such a Dr. Lee aren’t experts in their field, but does that mean no one else can be? Is there a monopoly on knowledge and education? Nurses are pissed because this is nothing new. The belittlement and disrespect continues within every specialty despite the increasing education requirements, proficiencies and responsibilities thrust upon us. This comes as a result of a economic downfall and lack of jobs which stimulate the male masculine mind (being the breadwinner or feeling useful), and the devotion to religion. In 1970 there was a crash in the economy which lead to this knock on effect. Men had to express masculinity in another form thus resulting in a physical expression. Religion in Jamaica is a necessity which cant be deemed unworthy, Jamaica has the world most churches per square mile, heavily catholic which diminishes and devalues homosexuality and treats it as a sin (@chefdeemusic). The links to slavery are very strong to the hatred of homosexuals - slave masters would sometimes rape the most dominant masculine male to emasculate the man and make a mockery of his power. Bare in mind Jamaica is the third worst place in the world for homicide rates, disputes are the number one killer, not crime suggesting toxic masculinity is the leading problem in Jamaica leading to poor investment due to statistics. Obviously, these factors to me aren’t valuable reasons to treat homosexuality with such hatred, and change is being made in Jamaica. Historically, the term “bisexual” has referred to a sexual orientation that involves attraction to both men and women. It originated in a time when sex/gender was primarily seen as a binary construct. However, the meaning of bisexuality has evolved over time. Today, different people define “bisexual” in very different ways. For example, in one of my human sexuality courses, I assign an article to students that presents 13 different ways of understanding bisexuality. Similarly, in a study of young adults (aged 18-30) who identified as bisexual and were asked to define what this term means to them, researchers found that “bisexuality is defined in a plethora of ways, including definitions based on behavior, attraction, or desire” and, further, people’s definitions “may employ binary or nonbinary definitions. So what does being bisexual really mean? It depends who you ask! One definition is not more “valid” or “correct” than another, so stop trying to be the judge or arbiter of others’ bisexual identities. It’s not your job to say who is a “true” bisexual and who is not. Bottom line: don’t make assumptions about someone’s sexual attractions based solely on their sexual identity label, and don’t try to impose your definitions on others. Dear One Kick’s Gym Families, The Coronavirus (COVID-19) has created a public health crisis that forces everyone to take unprecedented steps to prevent the spread of the illness among our families and community. Today, the Governor of Nevada has announced statewide school closures. At this time, we have been fortunate enough to have no confirmed or presumptive cases of COVID-19 within our gym or staff. As a precaution we did a thorough bleaching and sanitizing last week of every surface and piece of equipment in our facility. However, in accordance with the Governors directives and in an effort to prevent the further spread of the virus, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close One Kick’s Gym beginning Monday, March 16, 2020, and will remain closed until at least April 6. We are paying close attention to the directives of the Governors Office as well as the CDC to determine when our facility will return to normal operation. We will be doing extreme cleaning and sanitizing while we are temporarily closed so that you may return to our facility with confidence. We will keep you informed of future developments.
