Did you know that 1 billion children experienced violence in the last year alone? That’s half the worlds children. I was shocked to find out these stats. It is overwhelming to imagine how to help these children as they face what could be a lifetime of pain and suffering after experiencing this violence, let alone how we might be able to prevent this from happening in the first place. The amazing news is, thanks the NFP foundation, @polishedman we do have the power to help change this!!!! @polishedman raises funds every year with their ‘blue nail’ campaign which supports trauma prevention and trauma recovery programs for children who are at risk of, or who have suffered violence. Happy Saturday! A few new faces + I’ve taken some time away, so in the spirit of getting reacquainted, a few fun facts about me! Did you know some/all of these? . 1. I was born and raised outside of Atlanta, but I did live in Seattle for a few years and a huge piece of my heart is there! 2. Not only am I a realtor, but I am working towards building a portfolio of investment properties. My five year goal is to bring you along for the ride and be able to show and help others (women, specifically!) how to build wealth through real estate in creative ways. 3. I eat a GF diet. People ask me all the time if been tested for celiac, which I haven’t, but I know how much better I feel now that I’ve eliminated it and how sick I get when I eat it, and that’s enough for me. 4. From a young age my dad sat us down and made it very clear that the world is not fair nor pretty all the time. That at any moment we could be deported so don’t get too comfy because this is not where we’re from. // while I resented having to make sacrifices that some of my peers didn’t have to, I now look at that as an integral part of what makes me my best self. The so called #instaboyfriend, who can be anyone from your mom to your best friends dog as long as they endure pointing a camera at you and take the exact same picture thousands of times until youre satisfied or give up. This person is the main author of your Instagram posts and most times credits are totally disregarded. My current insta-boyfriend turns out to be my actual boyfriend and he deserves a big fat THANK YOU. Not only because of the photos he takes, but also because I tend to get pretty demanding. During the three months we traveled through South America he basically took an intense photography course to satisfy my high Instagram needs. He actually became extremely good at it, but I always complain and ask for countless repetitions, like I know most of you reading this do too. I feel like the insta-boyfriends around the world are not getting enough credit and we should thank them more often! Today would have been my moms birthday. Every year it comes like a sucker punch 🥊 to my gut. As I was looking over photos of her last night I realized what a testament her entire life was to the power of human will. From being told she would never walk, to the countless “you have one week/month/ days to life” or the suggested pre- surgery good byes by the doctors. The photos I have of my mom are filled with celebration, they are filled with accomplishment and triumphs, they are the ultimate 🖕🏼 to words such as “can’t” or “shouldn’t”. I used to look at these photos and think of the pain and suffering that accompanied her entire life. But now my minds lens has seemingly refocused to see the celebration in every step she took, to welcoming anyone who needed care into our home, to making it all the way to Colorado to hug me after graduation, to opening her eyes after yet another surgery, to planning unnecessarily large parties to raise money for charities and schools. She was stubborn, she was driven, and she was one hell of a spirit. I am blessed to have shared in her incredible life... and even more grateful to continue to celebrate that life every day of my own. My name is Leah, some people know me as Hael (it’s my name backwards). I am a photographer, creator and artist at my core. I tend to share my travels, life experiences, and little moments on this platform - but my love for photography as a whole is much more than that. Durante el confinamiento fueron meses muy complejos para nosotros, con mezcla de sentimientos, alegres por el nuevo embarazo, tristes y desesperantes por la situación sanitaria, general del país y en particular lo que afectaba a nuestra empresa y trabajadores, también esa necesidad de ayudar que sentimos, ya que teníamos los medios disponibles y podíamos hacerlo.... pues a todo eso le añadimos, la ejecución de este proyecto que llevábamos tiempo desarrollando pero que dio un giro durante el confinamiento a un proyecto más personal donde todo lo hacíamos Alvaro (es el que está con la camara) y yo, algo más casero pero con más ilusión y cariño. Porque en momentos difíciles hay que tener metas ilusionantes y esta claramente ha sido uno de los proyectos más bonitos que hemos hecho, que aunque ha sido mucho trabajo (no era consciente cuando empezamos), espero que el resultado, os encante! Today we would like to introduce you to @coreyray__ 🧜🏼♀️ • Corey first joined MAR in 2018 as an intern and dive master candidate after completing her BSc in Marine Science from Coastal Carolina University. After her internship, we decided to keep her on as a full time research assistant for the remainder of the 2018 season. She excelled in this position and was asked to come back as a research assistant in 2019 and again for the 2020 season (although COVID had other plans 😔). No matter where she is in the world, she is always helping us from afar, whether it’s with logistics, data, or marketing (pretty sure she’s our number one fan 🤣).
