As someone who works for a lesser visited park, having only 20 campsites, I always appreciate visiting parks a little quieter and off the beaten path like mine. Exactly 2 years ago today, our state embarked upon an ambitious “biodiversity initiative” to understand and protect the vast and still-undocumented diversity of the flora and fauna that inhabit California. 📍 With over 300 endangered or threatened species and 2,000 plant taxa found nowhere else on Earth, California Secretary for Natural Resources Wade Crowfoot says the state has a moral imperative to focus on biodiversity. . The Phone Pal program connected volunteers to people isolated at home through weekly support calls, the Home School Assistance Program provided support to parents educating their children at home and the Mask Sewing Initiative allowed people with sewing abilities to fill the critical demand for face masks. In addition to these responses, a coloring book When We All Stayed Home was created. This book helped to explain the Coronavirus and assisted children and families in processing their feelings and coping with the uncertainties of this time. There were 5,000 books in the first printing, half of which were offered for a donation of $5 each. Another historic house being demolished in our community today at 197 Arlington Avenue. Built in 1898 with a sister house to the left at 195. Today marks the end of a long but significant chapter in me and my family’s life. Today was the last and final day that I will step foot into and spend time in the house that I grew up in. A few months back my mother put it up for sale and sold it virtually over night. The passed two days have been an emotional rollercoaster for us, now leaving this place that is a staple representing so many good memories of holidays, birthdays, Christmas’ and other family events and just overall regular daily instances that brought joy into our lives. My sister @alexvalentini and I lived our entire childhoods in this house having an uncountable number of growth and learning experiences over the course of the 25 years that we owned it. All the wild and crazy fun I had with all of my childhood friends, most of whom also lived in the neighborhood and all of which I still keep in touch with and spend time with when I come back, I will never forget and will live on in my soul as all of these happenings played a significant role in the person I am today and I wouldn’t change a single thing about any of it. My father, before his passing almost 10 years ago this summer, adored every inch of every nook and cranny of this house and made it a priority to take unbelievable care of every aspect of the property and did so to a “T” without overlooking anything. He was the king and this was his castle. His spirit and our memory of him is imbedded into the foundation and the soil in which it stands upon and we will take that with us everywhere we go. I can’t thank everyone who was a part of this journey, family and friends alike, for contributing to all the memories. My mother will temporarily live in a new beautiful rental house in Avon, NJ right next to the beach and will likely move permanently to the Manasquan/Belmar area sometime next year. Although this has been bitter sweet, I am looking forward to and keeping an open mind about what the future holds and the new chapter that is beginning.
