While our remote facilities, generally provide ample space and limited public interaction, we our stepping up our cleaning efforts in the midst of this situation. We will disinfect all portable toilets daily. We have just completed deep cleaning in all the rooms, houses and common areas. The Utah Chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers took our messaging to a new level in response to Senator Lee’s efforts to prevent full funding of the LWCF. . . This June, Sen. Mike Lee @senmikelee voted against the most significant conservation legislation of our time, the Great American Outdoors Act, which dedicated full funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund and provided critical maintenance funding for our federal land management agences. This misguided decision proved that he is out of touch with Utahs hunters and anglers and oblivious to the outdoor businesses that depend on our public lands. He said, to most Americans, the so-called Great American Outdoors Act is a mistake – expensive, short-sighted, and wrong, a statement that doesnt hold water when you realize that 75 percent of Americans support the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which this bill fully funded, and 73 senators from both sides of the aisle voted to pass it. While many areas impacted by the #CreekFire have opened back up, the U.S. Forest Service has a closure order in effect for its land and roads. Please identify where it is you need to go ahead of time so you do not run into unexpected restrictions. This is especially important if you are trying to retrieve a trailer / RV. The U.S. Forest Service will re-evaluate this closure order on a regular basis. This is valuable information for those with trailers off of Dinkey Creek and McKinley Grove Roads and all spots around those major roads. Training for a few months for this beast. Fav pics from our hike and summit to Mount Whitney, 14,505 feet, the tallest mountain in the lower 48 contiguous states. On Monday, July 27, 2020, Noelle and I made our first attempt, and were successful, at making the summit. The hike was 23-miles total with 7,050 feet of combined elevation gain (up/back). We started in the middle of the night and came back in the dark extremely tired with a memory of a lifetime. I completed this with type-1 diabetes. The trick to a day hike to Mt Whitney is slow n steady to allow for optimal acclimation at these high altitudes. Fav pics of a strenuous hike Sun July 5th of an 11.5 mile loop to Mount Baldy (10,064 feet) with 6,013 feet of elevation gain, including summiting both West Baldy (9,988 ft) first, and then over to Mt Baldy next, in 6.30 miles from the Visitors center in the Baldy Village. This is probably the most difficult route up to the tallest peak in the San Gabriel mountains. Hiked with Noelle @the.hiker.babe on this adventure. A warm sunny early morning, with almost no breeze, made the first 3-1/3 miles very tiring with just short of 3,000 feet gain. Then, above 7,500 feet the winds shifted and we were getting cool breezes which helped us all the way to both summits. The last half of the hike we had enough pine tree cover to give us breaks to catch our breath and cool down. Fire Crews have given us the all clear to welcome guests back to the ranch. We will be open today with our store, BBQ, and Bakery and plan to resume our regular fall offerings by next week. Trail of the week: sunshine A blue trail below dry canyon trail head. It starts of with a open smooth trail where you can really have some speed, It drops into a tight turn in some trees and into a really technical section, this short tree area has a big stump, rocks,and a lot of roots. Then it drops into a really fun switch back with a few rocks but mostly smooth, Then you enter a tree section, you can pick up a lot of speed here. Al pasar por Punta de Choros ves a la gente frenar para acercarse a estos cánidos silvestres, ves que les dejan agua (lo cual podría ser un foco de infecciones), ves que apenas hacen el ademán de darles comida, los zorros se acercan y eso no está bien. Más encima oyes a la gente decir lo lindos que son, los oyes decir que quieren hacerles cariño. Está mal, hay que entender que son criaturas silvestres. Pero lamentablemente han ido perdiendo eso que los hace silvestres y somos testigos de un preocupante proceso de impronta. ¿Qué será de ellos ahora, en medio de la cuarentena? ¿Estarán valiéndose por sí mismos o seguirán a la espera de que alguien llegue a ofrecerles algo? Si pasaran hambre no sería por falta de alimento, sería porque las personas los mal acostumbraron a recibir comida fácil, haciéndoles perder el instinto de caza.
